Chapter 33 - Shush and Serve Me

The smell of the food Knox was cooking had an intoxicating fragrance that wrapped around the entire dorm room.

A terrible pain came from Rory's stomach reminding her that she hadn't eaten all day.

She had too much to buy to even bother with getting groceries.

Should she use the little money she had left to order something? Then again it wasn't like she hasn't gone a day without food before.

In her past life she had even went around two weeks without eating anything after her father disappeared.

After all, without her father, her distant relatives started to place hits on her and her mom's heads, which quickly scared off the servants.

The only people left in the house was her and a mother who only seemed to require wine to survive.

The company told them to just stay in the house and they would be safe until the inheritance was worked out. However, the food they had in the house unfortunately wasn't enough to last that long.

Knox felt the sensation of someone staring at him and looked up to see Rory in a dazed state. Her normally laughing grey eyes were filled with darkness and her entire aura felt detached.

His left eyebrow raised up in curiosity.

That gaze certainly wasn't one a normal eighteen-year-old rich boy should have. This person was without a doubt an interesting one. It looks like his time laying low wouldn't be as boring as he thought.

Knox's pale lips curled up at the thought, he sat down the pan on the stove and leaned against the kitchen counter. "Hungry?"

His hoarse voice brought Rory out of her past and she blinked at him slowly. Did he just ask her if she was hungry?

She had to be imagining things.

From her limited understanding of Knox, he shouldn't have the ability to care about if a random person was hungry. Much less offer them the food he personally cooked.

Having a family that wants to kill you and becoming a multimillionaire at the age of twenty-one was an easy way for someone to lose the ability to care about others.

She didn't judge him for it though, if she didn't have her mom in her past life, she would undoubtedly be the same way.

"Are. You. Hungry?" Knox drawled out his sentence with a deep Russian accent making it difficult for Rory to misunderstand.

When Rory registered that she actually didn't imagine what Knox said earlier, alarm bells went off in her mind. Why did this scene remind her a lot of Hansel and Gretal?

If it wasn't a mirage, it was a trap.

Her lazy stare turned into a wary one as she analyzed him with piercing eyes.

What did this ice block want now? Was he already trying to have a conversation to blackmail her? That would be quite troublesome…

She hasn't even had to chance to make a computer to investigate him more. Not only that, she honestly didn't have the patience to deal with him today.

Rory shook her head and opened her mouth to respond only to have Knox abruptly cut her off, "Don't bother lying, I already know you haven't eaten all day. Afterall, in between the incident at the coffeeshop and your classes, how could you of had a chance?"

'What a straightforward stalker!' Rory exclaimed inside of her head.

"What coffee incident? ...never mind. I'm on a very unhealthy diet. Don't concern yourself with me its fine." Rory waved him off and tried to circle around the kitchen to her room.

Within record time Knox had walked around the kitchen counter and grabbed the back of her school uniform's collar. She couldn't move forward anymore.

"Truly a compulsive liar, aren't you?" Behind her Knox's voice had taken on a dangerous tone.

You're a liar! Your whole family is a compulsive liar! At this point, Rory sincerely missed her taser to the point it almost brought tears to her eyes.

"Here I thought we had a contract to stay out of each other's way. You know harassment is the exact opposite of that." Rory tugged herself from his grasp and casually turned around.

One of her hands slightly brushed off the shoulder of her school jacket uniform.

Knox's blue eyes went dark at the motion, yet he didn't say anything about it. In fact, he couldn't understand why he was annoyed in the first place.

Just something about the motion was very unsightly…

Rory felt the room temperature drop. With questioning eyes she stared at Knox. She hadn't even started being rude yet. Why did he already look ready to kill her?

Knox took notice of Rory's puzzled eyes and brushed away his weird emotions. "What contract? How come I can't remember it?"

"Do you think I won't kill you?"

Rory shot him a smile and jumped up on one of the stools next to the counter. If she couldn't escape she might as well enjoy herself.

"Just shush and serve me. What are you cooking anyway?"

Knox's eye twitched at the obnoxious person.

Why did he feel like that he wasn't terrifying in front of him? He had to teach this kid a lesson once he had him under submission.

To tie him over a shark tank or to abandon him somewhere in the wild?

On the outside, Knox calmly replied without giving away any of his dark thoughts. "Sauerkraut soup."

"Could you add extra white pepper to mine? I like it extra spicy."

With sparkling eyes she placed her face between her two hands while leaning forward on the counter.
