One of the assistants called out the points. "10 points!" He then further asked, "Who shot this arrow, and may I know your number?" What?! Why is he asking my number so casually? Emily was in shock. Oh! Wait… my sports enrollment number! Ugh, looks like I have lost my mind. "87!" Emily called out. "Very good!" The assistant complimented her.
Emily then took out another arrow, aimed and shot.
"10 points!"
Another arrow.
"10 points!"
Another arrow, one more and again.
"10 points, 10 points, 10 points!"
Emily was really surprised at her performance, she felt like she had been practicing archery since childhood. She could hear Linda hooting and cheering for her.
"Yay, Emily! Amazing! Perfection!"
Cyril was also very impressed by her as well! "Wow, Emily! You're a monster!" He laughed, along with Emily. "Should we do a competition? Me and you?" He asked, sniggering. "Yeah, sure!" Emily accepted the challenge happily. However, inside, Emily was freaking out. She had just started archery, how could she win against an expert like Cyril?! Secondly, why did he challenge her? Emily tried to relax herself, even if she lost, it is totally understandable, and she is just a newbie! How is she comparable to a professional?
It is just a friendly match, right? Emily thought helplessly.
Linda was kind of worried for the same reason, why suddenly request for a match? Is he threatened by Emily? These thoughts instead made Linda happy. My bestie is so talented! She thought.
Samantha was nearby, she was way too happy to hear this news. Hah, what a great story for my magazine. 'A newbie dares to challenge the master.' She has a sinister expression on her face. She quickly sent her so-called best friend, or more suitably assistant to spread this new as soon as possible. And soon enough a huge crowd was gathered near the archery section. The bleachers, which was practically empty had been filled. Each and every student who was participating in t the event was present.
Emily was a bit nervous, but now she was a nervous wreck! Why did it had to end up like this? She could only try to meditate and try to regain her calm self by breathing in and out. She could have played it nicely, but now due to the emotional stress, she was bound to loose miserably. If she were to blame someone, she would definitely blame Ivy and Samantha! No doubt, they were doing it on purpose… Now, she could only go with the flow.
On the other hand, Aiden also got the news of this 'competition' and quickly rushed to help her, but it was too late. They had taken their positions. The assistant had given out the rules, which were simple. The person who scores the most points by shooting a specified number of arrows wins, in this case, ten arrows. What does Cyril want from her? Aiden thought furiously. All he could do now was to just sit and watch.
"Ready… Set… Go!" The archery instructor called out.
Emily and Cyril took out arrows, aimed and shot. Cyril was a bit too confident in himself, so he finished shooting his ten arrows in no time. While Emily was half way through. Although he just wanted a friendly match, he did not expect a crowd to gather. That is the reason why his demeanor changed from calm and casual to arrogant.
That is the main reason why Aiden disliked Cyril. He would boast around in public to gain attention. That was the situation at present. He teasingly said to Emily, "Are you sure you can beat me? You can give up if you want. You are just a newbie." Clearly he did not mean to hurt Emily by any way, but little did he know, Emily was exceedingly offended.
You were the one who started it. Now I will beat you however I can. Let's see what you do then? Emily was in a rage. She cooled down and only focused on the game. Paying no attention to what others are saying. However, in the surroundings, many people were chatting about this match, most of them being mean comments.
"I did not expect Emily to be so arrogant!"
"Yeah! Me neither. What is she trying to prove herself?"
"Huh! She is just trying to gain some attention."
"But, what if she actually defeats him?"
"Not even in my dreams! Are you actually supporting her?"
Linda sated quiet and did not dare to utter a single word. They will no themselves how capable my bestie is! She thought, trying to be optimistic. Even Aiden was infuriated at such comments. He gritted is teeth, trying to suppress his anger. Just then, Ivy came up and sat beside him, clinging on his arm, "Oh, Aiden! Look at Emily. I hate to say but she is such a trouble maker? Why did she dare provoke Cyril? I…" Before she could say anything further, Aiden cut in, "Either shut up or leave."
