Chapter 59 - The Next Hero...?

The eternal flame kept in a clear glass jar was replaced by another item that was once again floating in mid-air.

"The next item we have brought for you is this special sword that is said to have been wielded by the great Edler!"

Hecathe almost choked on empty air as he heard the name. He would have to be a fool not to recognize that name!

Alphius Edler... The great Edler.

"The hunter whose mere name needs no introduction! The hero that eventually succumbed to death after bravely facing a Dorgon!" The auctioneer announced as if he was telling the tale of a great hero who would never be forgotten even after his death.

There was no other man that could fit the description given by him. The auctioneer was basically claiming that this sword used to belong to Alphius's father!

"This sword was said to have been lost after his death but it seems that the heavens above wanted a new hero to rise! A new hero who could come forward and take this sword left behind for them!"

Hecathe's face cringed up in disgust as he immediately realized the tactic this tricky man was trying to use.

"I would like everyone here to ask yourselves a question," The auctioneer's eyes glanced throughout the place as if he was observing every move made by the people present today, "Ask yourselves if you are brave! Ask yourselves if you have the courage to take the great responsibility! Ask yourselves if you want to wield this sword! Do you want to become the next hero?!"

The auctioneer was basically trying to use emotions to make people bid and it seemed to have worked as everyone listened attentively to him and most of the people looked ready to raise their hands as soon as the bidding was open.

"I wonder who would take home the sword of the hero today," The man chuckled as he commented, "We shall soon see!"

"The starting bid is five hundred thousand Lenix!" As soon as the auctioneer announced this, people didn't waste any time as they started raising their hands one by one.

Within just a few seconds, the bid was already raised to "Two million Lenix!"

Hecathe sighed and shook his head as he mentally wondered how dumb someone had to be in order to be influenced by the auctioneer's words.

A sword was not the one attacking.

Even if you gave a child a fountain pen worth a fortune, he would still not be able to do beautiful calligraphy. The best you would get would be a scribble of a weird-looking dinosaur.

It was only natural that the same could be said about this sword as well.

It might have once belonged to the great Edler, but just because it was once used by that man, it didn't make the sword more special.

No matter who won this bid today, they would still not become the next hero.

"T-twenty million Lenix...!" The auctioneer stuttered as he looked up and announced with a bit of surprise, "From our lovely customer up at seat 87!"

Hecathe once again choked on empty air as he heard this.

From a two million bid, the bid was raised all the way up to twenty million... The one who had bid that amount was surely trying to make a statement and that man was no other than Raven who had joined this bid as well.

The whole place went silent as everyone cautiously glanced up to see the man casually smirking as he looked at the auctioneer.

For someone to suddenly raise the bidding amount like this... It was certainly not normal, however, there would always be some overproud people who would do this and by doing it, they would be making a clear statement throughout the auction house.

It was akin to saying: I'm ready to pay whatever you want and I'm not backing down no matter what.

Everyone had already seen the man joining the first bidding war for the eternal flame so by now, Raven was not just a random person sitting up there on one of the balconies.

Hecathe blinked as he looked at the man and wondered why he would want to buy this sword.

He clearly had a much better weapon tied to his back so this sword was basically useless to him...

"Is there a higher bid?" The auctioneer questioned and waited for a minute but when nobody dared to speak up, he continued, "Then Twenty million Lenix going once!"

Hecathe's eyes glanced throughout the bidding house as he tried to spot someone who would perhaps be courageous enough to raise their hand and place a higher bid, however, it seemed that everyone here was already wary of Raven so no one dared to challenge the man once again.

The woman sitting in seat 44 had certainly won the last bidding war, but it seemed that Raven was the one who had struck fear in the hearts of the people present.

Hecathe looked over at seat 44 to see if that woman had any interest in the sword, but she looked to be completely unbothered as casually stretched her fingers.

"Going twice!"

Hecathe once again looked back up at Raven and he couldn't help but feel that there was something about the man this time. In the last bidding war, he didn't look like he wanted to win, that was why he didn't raise the price too much, but this time, it was a completely different story.

"It looks like you want to win this time..." Hecathe muttered out his thoughts under his breath but it was only natural that nobody heard him.

"Going thrice!" The auctioneer took a deep breath as he shouted, "And sold! To the lovely gentleman sitting up at seat 87!"

Raven nodded his head as he heard the auctioneer.

"It is certainly not every day we see this auction house this lively!" The auctioneer commented with a huge smile on his face, "To the gentleman sitting up at seat 87, I would like to wish all the best. You're brave and smart! I hope to see you becoming a great hero in the future!"

Raven snickered as he heard this but said nothing back.
