"I would now like to introduce our third item of the day!"
The rest of the auction was rather boring as there were no further bidding wars, however, Hecathe would still say that it was interesting to see the different items that were displayed.
Unfortunately, as expected, none of the items managed to impress Hecathe enough to place a bid. Surprisingly enough, Raven was also uninterested in the rest of the items introduced, and Hecathe couldn't help but wonder if it was perhaps because the man had run out of money...?
Hecathe leaned back on the sofa as he tried to take a short rest. He closed his eyes and for a second there, he almost fell asleep, however, he was woken up immediately by a sound.
"Save me..."
Hecathe blinked as he looked around and tried to spot the person that had said it, but no matter how much he looked, he couldn't see anyone.
"Save me, please..." The voice came again and Hecathe gulped as he wondered if there was a ghost in this auction house.
The voice was sweet and the person sounded rather young but there was nobody around who could possibly be the owner of the voice.
"What the...?" Hecathe muttered in confusion as he tried to understand if he was merely hallucinating it or not.
"You, there! You can hear me, can't you?" The person suddenly sounded angry as he snapped.
"A ghost?" Hecathe's eyebrows creased together in confusion as he questioned.
"Do I look like a ghost to you?!" The voice sounded offended this time and Hecathe was now sure that just like how he could hear the person, the other person could also hear him.
"You don't look like anything to me. Are you not a ghost?"
"Of course, not!" The person snapped with a scoff, "How can you ask such a thing?! I am the great emperor and you dare call me a ghost?!"
Hecathe pursed his lips as he wondered if it was a delusional ghost.
"Say, where are you, great emperor? Why can't I see you? Are you perhaps too shy to show yourself?" Hecathe asked with a mocking smirk plastered on his face.
"You're blind if you can't see me! Look up!" The voice instructed and Hecathe turned his head up with a frown as he tried to see if there was someone who would be befitting of the title of the great emperor, however, he could still not spot the person.
"Are you sure you're not a delusional ghost?" Hecathe asked casually.
"I'm right there! You're looking at me right now!" The voice shouted but somehow Hecathe had the feeling that he was the only one who could hear the voice.
"I'm looking at you...?" Hecathe tilted his head in confusion.
As long as he was aware, he was not looking at a person but rather, he was looking at an... Egg...?
"Could it be that you're an egg?" Hecathe almost found it hard to believe as he questioned.
"I'm not an egg!" The voice snapped angrily, "I'm trapped inside this egg!"
"Ah..." Hecathe muttered in understanding, "Well... How did you get trapped inside there?"
"..." The voice was silent for a minute as the person heard this straightforward question.
"Was it because you were just born?" Hecathe asked with a chuckle as he found it a bit amusing.
"Of course, not!" The voice responded as the person answered Hecathe's previous question, "It's clearly because I haven't got the time to hatch!"
"Isn't that the same thing?" Hecathe asked in confusion.
"It's not!" The voice defended itself, "Now save me, you lowly human!"
Hecathe blinked in surprise as he heard this and it seemed that the person had managed to make Hecathe fall speechless for a few seconds.
"Why don't you try calling me something more polite?" Hecathe suggested as a response, "Maybe I would think about saving you then."
"..."
"This is the egg of a Dorgon!" The auctioneer announced loudly as he informed everybody, "It need not even be said how precious it is!"
Hecathe didn't know if he wanted to laugh or cry as he heard this.
The egg of a dorgon?
As long as he knew, Dorgon's were creatures that had existed even before humans and they were the first rulers of this land, however, their population kept on decreasing as their reproduction rate lessened with time.
Now, there were hardly any Dorgon's left in this world. Maybe only a couple that could be counted with just one hand alone.
This item was surely rare and priceless so it was quite shocking to see it suddenly appear in the black market auction, however, there was something that had managed to surprise Hecathe more and it was the fact that he was the only one who could talk to the Dorgon.
This ability to talk to the beast was not something Hecathe had but it was something that the body he was possessing had. This was the ability of Alphius. Not only could that man sense and control mutants but he could also talk to Dorgons. This was also the main reason why people had initially spread a rumor about Alphius killing his own father by instructing a Dorgon, but Hecathe naturally knew that this rumor was completely bullsh*t.
Alphius could control the mutants, however, he had no means to control a Dorgon.
These creatures weren't really that human-friendly and they would rather die than listen to a human. For Dorgons, humans were a species that were considered to be way below them. Humans were not even worthy of becoming a decent meal for them.
"Once you cook this egg and eat it, you will gain a lot of benefits! The Dorgons are considered to be a powerful species and by eating their meat, you can absorb all of that power!" The auctioneer sounded ecstatic as he announced loudly, "Eating an adult Dorgon might not give you the same effects as eating a young one. The younger the creature is, the more benefits you would gain. This is certainly a priceless treasure that we have brought for you today!"
Hecathe chuckled as he commented under his breath, "You better call me nicely if you don't want to end up in a lowly human's belly."
"...."
