Marvin smiled as he turned to face LeiLei and raised his hands to cover her ears with a smile before he questioned Hecathe.
"Are you now sure that it's him?"
Hecathe sighed as he heard this question and it didn't take him long to understand what the boy was talking about.
"It's definitely him. We are working for the one who killed your father," Hecathe responded as he shrugged his shoulders and Marvin softly cursed under his breath as he uncovered LeiLei's ears.
"What the hell?! You're also helping him keep secrets from me!" LeiLei exclaimed as she pointed at Marvin accusingly.
Marvin shook his head and simply chuckled as he refused to reply to the girl and continued walking ahead.
"What is wrong with you two?!" LeiLei stomped on the ground as she got left behind and had to run in order to catch up to the two who had left her behind.
"LeiLei, let me ask you a question," Marvin spoke as he heard the girl's footsteps rushing behind him and he didn't even wait for LeiLee's response as he asked the question, "Let's say that your father was killed by someone and that someone was never caught or punished for the murder. What would you do?"
Hecathe frowned as he heard this question and side-glanced at the boy in suspicion.
LeiLei was a bit confused as she heard this random question and it took her an entire minute to even make sense of the question.
"You're asking me what I would do?" LeiLei innocently asked as she pointed at herself and tilted her head sightly.
Marvin nodded his head as he confirmed it and the girl took another few minutes to think about the answer before she eventually got ready to answer the random question.
"I don't know," LeiLei spoke with a frown, "My father... Well, he passed away a long time ago so I can't even remember his face that well. Even when he was still alive, he would hardly come to visit me and my mother was the one who always took care of me. I was close to my mother and loved her a lot while my father was more like a role model for me. I simply wanted to be acknowledged by him."
Hecathe gulped as he heard this answer and cautiously glanced at the girl with a bit of worry.
Marvin pursed his lips into a thin smile as he heard this story that had somehow managed to make him connect with the girl more.
"But no matter how much I loved and adored them, one day, they got taken away from me forever. I was little but I still remember that day," LeiLei looked down at the floor and her footsteps slowed down as she continued softly, "My mother was with me at home and somebody knocked on the door. My mom tucked me in bed and went to open the door. It was a bit late and normally there would be no guests at around that time so it was naturally a bit strange. I remember being worried for no reason. I was unable to sleep and felt uneasy."
Marvin glanced at Hecathe for a second as he heard this part but Hecathe not only looked worried but also looked as if he was feeling sorry for the girl.
"I went down to check on my mother but she was already not there. She had left with the door wide open and I immediately knew that there was something wrong. It was dark but I still decided to leave the house and went out to search for my mother."
"Did you find her?" Marvin asked an obvious question.
LeiLei shook her head and forced herself to smile as she spoke, "How can that be? It was drizzling and cold. Before I knew it, I passed out on the street and when I woke up, I was told that they were both dead."
Hecathe's eyebrows creased together as he heard this and he couldn't quite understand it.
Alphius had been the one to kill her father but how did her mother die...?
Hecathe was curious to know but he felt as if it would be a rude question so he didn't dare ask the girl.
Marvin, however, was not that sensible and he didn't even think twice before he questioned, "How did your mother die?"
LeiLei shook her head as she spoke, "She chose it for herself."
Hecathe and Marvin both were shocked as they heard this and their eyes widened in that shock.
"She received news that father had been killed and she also decided to follow after him," LeiLei spoke up as she added and there was a sense of pain in her voice as she continued, "I loved her a lot but turns out that she loved him more than me. She didn't even think about me and decided to abandon me as she chose to follow after him."
Marvin gently grabbed LeiLei's hand and squeezed it reassuringly without saying anything. Hecathe also did the same as he grabbed her other arm and gently squeezed it.
"You asked what I would do if I found out that my father was killed? Well, I don't think I can answer that question cause as you can see, I have done nothing so far," LeiLei looked up at the boy with a smile that lacked any joy.
Marvin gulped as he heard this and felt as if he should've never asked such a question.
"What if you knew the murderer?" This time, it was Hecathe who questioned and LeiLei looked to be a bit taken back as her eyes slightly widened.
"Eh?"
"What if you knew the person who killed your father? What if he was someone really close to you? What if that person hid it from you and treated you well?"
LeiLei gulped as she heard all these questions and she looked to be a bit tongue-tied, however, Hecathe was in no hurry and patiently waited for her to answer.
"Um... It depends," LeiLei answered after thinking about it for a bit, "I think I would feel betrayed and I'll probably be sad as well. I might not ever want to meet the person again and I might even come to hate them."
"..." Marvin and Hecathe glanced at each other for a second and it was clear what the two were thinking.
From this answer alone, they had decided to keep it a secret forever.
"But I don't think I'll go for revenge," LeiLei chuckled as she spoke, "Because everything happened for a reason and I don't think there would be any use of me taking revenge so late."
"And in any case, I got to meet you because of it all so I don't think revenge matters," LeiLei beamed as she looked at Hecathe.
Hecathe was stabbed by guilt as he saw the delighted smile on her face.
Marvin sighed out loud as he rubbed her head with his left hand, "You're such a nice kid."
LeiLei turned to look at the boy with a frown as she pointed out, "We're the same age... Stop calling me a kid."
"My father also died," Marvin revealed with a small smile and LeiLei was a bit surprised as she heard this.
"He was also killed," Marvin added with a small nod as he closed his eyes and spoke, "It happened a few months ago and I am still unable to move on from it."
Hecathe and LeiLei curiously looked at the boy who randomly started narrating his own story and Hecathe couldn't help but wonder if it was time to share sad stories.
"When he died, I couldn't bring myself to believe it. I forced myself to search for him because I felt that he was still alive. I felt that he was out there somewhere waiting for me to find him, but unfortunately, I was wrong."
This was certainly the first time Hecathe was hearing such a detailed story from Marvin's side so he was naturally just as interested as LeiLei.
"When I finally came to terms with the fact that he was dead, there were no longer any tears left to shed. I had no idea what I was supposed to feel and days went by just like that. Someone whom I trusted and looked up to came and told me that my father had been killed by one of my closest friends," Marvin sighed as he continued, "I couldn't believe him but he then showed me proof. For a moment there, I lost my mind completely."
LeiLei bit her lip as she heard the boy's story and she couldn't help but empathize with him.
"I decided to avenge my father's death. It was the last thing I could do for him. In a state of anger, I trapped my friend and betrayed him. He trusted me, because of which he easily fell into the trap, and I... I killed him," Marvin admitted out loud as he stepped out of the guild and looked up at the sky.
The sky was crowded with dark clouds and Marvin sighed as he saw it.
It looked as if there was a storm coming but it had been like that for a few weeks and there was still no rain. The clouds were still there, just looking as if they were waiting for something.
