"Did you apologize to him?" LeiLei asked and Marvin didn't know if he was supposed to laugh or cry as he heard this question.
"How could I beg for forgiveness when I was the one that had killed him in the first place?" Marvin asked a bit sarcastically and LeiLei frowned as she heard this.
"You should have still said sorry," LeiLei spoke as she pointed up at the sky, "Maybe he was waiting to hear it."
Marvin couldn't understand what the girl was trying to say so he simply blinked in confusion while Hecathe, on the other side, chuckled as he looked up at the dark sky.
"You think someone would wait to hear something such as a simple apology?" Hecathe asked without thinking about it too much.
"Why not?" LeiLei turned to look at Hecathe as she questioned, "If it was a close friend then that friend must have also felt horrible."
"Why would he feel horrible? Wasn't he the one who was wronged?" Hecathe titled his head as he questioned.
LeiLei nodded her head as she responded, "You're right. He was the victim but he's already dead. Raven is the one who has to live on with the guilt and pain of having killed that friend. If I was the friend then I would have certainly felt horrible for making him suffer because of me."
Hecathe couldn't help but blink in surprise as he heard this and at the same time, he also felt as if he was hearing something stupid that actually made some sense.
"It's the ones who live that feel pain. They are the ones suffering the most," LeiLei sighed as she added and Hecathe somehow agreed with her.
"That's a good thing," Marvin muttered as he looked down at the floor, "I was the one who killed him so I should be the one to suffer. It's good that I'm the one suffering. I deserve it."
LeiLei had the urge to slap the boy's face as she heard this.
"Suffering isn't the answer!" LeiLei spoke up firmly, "You should realize your mistake and find a way to make everything better. Instead of wasting away loathing yourself, you should try to make something out of your life! Because you're the one that is living... You need to live for him as well. You need to be happy for him as well."
Hecathe thought that Marvin and LeiLei were alike but after hearing this argument between the two, he understood that there was a big difference between them.
Although their situation was somewhat the same, how they dealt with it and what they took away from it were entirely different.
"That's why you should apologize," LeiLei let go of Marvin's hand and raised her hand to smack his head softly as she scolded, "You should apologize to him in your heart and learn to move on."
Hecathe gulped as he heard this and felt as if this girl was going to be causing trouble.
On one hand, Hecathe was trying his best to agitate Marvin to take revenge while on the other hand, this girl was trying to teach him to let everything go.
If Marvin started to believe her then it was certainly going to be troublesome...!
"Let it go?" Marvin muttered a question as he looked at the girl before asking seriously, "Then what do I do with the one who murdered my father and framed my friend? Should I let him go as well?"
LeiLei gulped as she heard this sudden question that was a bit unexpected for her.
After an entire minute, the girl snapped angrily as she answered the question, "You should kill him, of course! Letting go of the guilt and pain is not the same as forgiving the one who committed the crime!"
Both Marvin and Hecathe were shocked by her ruthless response and Hecathe couldn't help but want to sigh in relief as he heard the girl.
Thankfully enough she wasn't the angelic forgiving type...
On second thoughts, Hecathe felt that this was also not good news for him since it would mean that she wouldn't readily forgive Alphius for her father's death.
Marvin suddenly chuckled as a response and Hecathe couldn't help but do the same as he found the girl's response a bit amusing.
"Then I'll take your word for it," Marvin spoke in between his chuckle and although LeiLei felt as if she had inspired the boy to do something, she had no idea what that thing was.
Suddenly LeiLei and Marvin turned to look at Hecathe and the man immediately stopped laughing as he tilted his head in confusion and questioned, "What is it?"
"Sir, what about you?" LeiLei asked enthusiastically, "We just told you our stories. You must have one as well, don't you?"
"Eh?" Hecathe was suddenly a bit taken back and at first, he thought about avoiding this question, but when he saw the curious eyes on him, he couldn't help but feel guilty and his guilt made him sigh as he decided to answer.
"My father is not dead," Hecathe spoke as he shook his head and this was not the story of Alphius but the story of Hecathe himself, "And my mother is also alive."
LeiLei and Marvin were a bit speechless as they heard this and looked to be even more curious.
"Then why are you always alone?" LeiLei tilted her head as she questioned.
"Cause they are too far away," Hecathe simply shrugged his shoulders and answered as he kept walking with his eyes looking ahead at the road in front, "My relationship with them is also not bad. They were caring and had spoiled me a lot."
LeiLei pouted as she heard this and felt a little jealous of the man for having such a different story from the two of them.
"But it has actually been quite some years since I last visited my mom," Hecathe sighed as he revealed, "And I was always too busy to go meet up with my old man."
"Wha~ You're such a bad child," LeiLei spoke with a frown as she mentally judged the man from these two sentences alone.
"You see, a few years ago, I was out on a vacation with my parents and I found this odd shiny green stone. It was something that had never been found before and my mother decided to collect it for examination. Turns out that it was a powerful resource that shouldn't be carelessly handled by humans. My mother was a good person who wanted to keep it from the world. She decided to hide it and in the process, she slowly started becoming obssessed with it."
This was the first time Marvin and LeiLei were hearing such a story so it was only natural that the two were surprised and curious to hear more.
It was also the first time that Hecathe was telling anybody this story so the man also felt a little awkward as he continued.
"Her obsession started to affect our family and also our relationship. When I grew up, we found out that it was impossible to hide something forever. Me and my father didn't share the same ideals as her. We believed that the more you try to hide something, there would be more chances of your secret being found out. So we stopped without her permission," Hecathe sighed as he informed.
"Did she hate you for it?" LeiLei cautiously asked and Hecathe couldn't help but chuckle dryly as he heard her.
"It would have been better if that was it."
LeiLei's eyebrows furrowed together in confusion as she heard this and Marvin looked as if he had an idea of what might have really happened.
"She went crazy," Hecathe spoke with a thin smile that lacked any joy, "Tried to murder both me and my father."
"..."
"We were lucky enough to survive and later on, we had to put her in a special facility that was tightly protected and had the best psychiatrists in the country."
"She became a mutant...?!" LeiLei tilted her head as she asked with shock and Hecathe didn't know if he wanted to laugh or cry as he heard this question.
In this world, saying that people went crazy was the same as saying that they had turned into a mutant so of course, the girl wouldn't understand the real situation that Hecathe was trying to explain.
Hecathe sighed as he shook his head and patiently explained, "Let's just say that she didn't become a mutant but was ill instead. And her sickness is currently being treated."
LeiLei frowned as she heard this and felt sympathy for the man, "That must have felt awful."
Hecathe nodded his head.
"But why didn't you go and visit her?" Marvin asked as he looked at Hecathe.
"Because it hurt me to see her like that," Hecathe spoke with a small dry chuckle, "Whenever I went to pay her a visit, she would throw something at me and tell me to get out."
LeiLei squeezed Hecathe's hand reassuringly and spoke with a small smile, "It's okay. I'm sure she'll get better one day."
