A few hours later...
Green eyes sluggishly opened, staring at the naked broad chest that blocked the view before peering with dark blue ones and a kiss landed on her forehead.
" You're awake," Leo said as Becca rubbed her eyes with her hands and let out a yawn.
" Damn, we got to stop skipping work like this." Becca groaned, stretching her limbs. " What time is it?"
Her gaze wandered to the clock on the wall and a gasp fled her lips.
" I didn't hear you complaining when we were making love." Leo grinned at Becca who just blinked at him, unable to mutter a single word in her defense because he was right. She didn't complain. How would she when she enjoyed every second of it? Just the thought of what they did, tightened her insides. Her cheeks reddened.
They both laid on the bed, staring at each other with none of them uttering a word. Silence.
Too silent.
Becca let out a sigh as they remained in that position, basking in the warmth they provided each other. She then shut her eyes and snuggled dipper into Leo's embrace, her naked body pressed to his under the duvet cover that drooped over them.
" My love?" Leo called out, his voice breaking the walls of tranquil yet disturbing silence that enclosed them. " Is something wrong?" He asked, a little worried and Becca slowly opened her eyes and gazed up at him.
" I still see her whenever I close my eyes." She whispered and sighed softly.
" Who?" Leo's brows crumpled in confusion. What was she talking about?
" Raquel." She nuzzled his chest. " I see her."
Like a freaky horror show, the shooting at the restaurant, Raquel's death, still haunted Becca. The memory stayed and like a tattoo, it imprinted itself in her mind, scarring her.
An ache shot through Leo's chest on hearing Becca's words, even the tone she spoke with threatened to shatter him. She wasn't blaming him, her words didn't sound indicting, more like depressing. Nevertheless, it didn't stop him from feeling awful about it all.
He rubbed Becca's back to soothe her, knowing deep down that her happiness and peace of mind were the only cure for the horrible feeling that plagued him. Her smile was the thing he badly needed right now.
" It will get better, just like the nightmares," Leo assured and kissed her forehead, stroking her arm with his hand.
" I hope so," Becca muttered softly against his chest before raising her head when she recalled something. " Leo..." Her voice sounded sweet as she called out his name.
" Yes."
" When we were in the pool, you promised to tell me everything." Becca reminded and Leo's throat bobbed as his eyes met hers. He gulped.
" Y—yes, of course." He stuttered slightly, trying to preserve his composure. The last thing he wanted was for her to think he was stalling again or even worst, assume he didn't trust her to know about his past but it wasn't easy on him. Nothing was easy when he was involved. The things she wanted him to say weren't either.
Becca's eyes turned expectant and Leo didn't need anyone to tell him that it was his cue to start talking.
" What do you want to know about first?" Leo asked, giving himself time to harden his spine and muster up some much-needed courage.
His Becca was bestowing him with the opportunity to redeem himself but that was the scary thing about all this. Her patience with him was now balancing on a thin thread and the look in her eyes was an ultimatum. Either he tells her what she wants to know or he risks her hating him. God forbid that happens.
Never in his life has he imagined himself to be in the situation he was in right now. One where he had only two options and both the outcomes of those options scared the fuck out of him.
If he confesses everything to her, she might get frightened and hate him but if he hesitates and stays mute, she would get pissed for sure.
Fuck! His life was screwed.
Leo's heart drummed in his ears as his lips parted to speak, cold sweat trickling down his back but before he could articulate anything, the sound of his phone ringing echoed in the room, dragging him out of the deep hole of tension he fell in. He jerked back to reality.
" Your phone is ringing." Becca pointed out and with lightning speed, Leo turned to the nightstand where he left his phone, releasing the breath he was holding.
He stretched out his arm, the other one still wrapped protectively around Becca as he picked his phone and stared at the screen, frowning when he saw who the caller was.
Martino was calling him and it didn't take Leo two seconds to know what the call was going to be about. Mafia business.
Fuck!
He thought the unexpected call would be his ticket out of the anxiety Becca's stares were putting him in but little did he know that it was his impending doom.
From the frying pan to the fire. Fuck the fire, with the way Leo was sweating in the air-conditioned room, one would think he was laying next to a volcano ready to erupt.
His eyes flitted from Becca to his phone screen and back before declining the call. If Becca was going to find out about it, he preferred to be the one who would gently break it to her. It would only complicate things if she found out on her own.
Leo lowered his phone to the bed and placed it next to him, readying himself for the inevitable when he heard her gasp.
" Shit, my phone." Her eyes turned worried as she stared at him. " Leo, did you by any chance bring my purse back?"
It was on hearing his phone ring that she remembered her phone wasn't with her and she hoped he saw her purse and brought it home as well.
" Your phone?" Leo faltered. " Yes, your phone." He unfastened his hold around Becca and jumped out of the bed, striding to the closet, and took out the purse he retrieved from after the restaurant.
Becca beamed at the sight of her purse in his hand and heaved a relieved sigh. She sat up on the bed as he approached her and quickly grabbed the purse out of his hand, ransacking it to find her phone. Luckily, she found it.
Without waiting for a second longer, Becca dialed Navaya's number. The first person she thought of.
Navaya knew Leo bought her the restaurant and must surely have heard the news of the crossfire that took place there. Only God knows how worried Navaya would be now, especially when Becca didn't show up to work or even called her.
