Liu Juan didn't expect Mo Jiang's direct rejection. He had been good to her in the past few days. Then what had suddenly happened to him now?
Liu Juan took a deep breath and said in a low voice, "Fine. I will come to sleep in your room."
She was sure that Mo Jiang wouldn't do anything inappropriate without her permission.
"Fine." Mo Jiang accepted, which made Liu Juan sigh out loud in relief but only for a fraction of seconds. "You can sleep in my room and I will sleep in the study room."
"No. You can also sleep with me." Liu Juan immediately suggested.
"I can't."
"Why?"
Mo Jiang closed the book which he was reading and stood in front of her. He said. "Juan, as your husband, I have been waiting for you but you shouldn't take my patience for granted. I won't guarantee that I won't do anything to you. But yeah...If you are ready, I don't mind sleeping with you." He emphasized the word 'sleeping' and took a step closer to her. In reflection, Liu Juan immediately took a step back.
She averted her eyes from him as she didn't know what to say.
Fortunately, Mo Jiang didn't make things difficult for her. "Think about it."
Of course, Liu Juan wasn't ready but thinking that it was Mo Jiang's room, she had some sense of security and went to sleep alone.
However, her nightmares haunted her down there also.
"No!" Liu Juan screamed in horror as she finally came out of her nightmare. She gasped for air, and her face was stained in tears and her clothes were drenched with sweat.
Her heart was pounding loudly and fast, and she was shivering in fear. The room was engrossed in the darkness such that she felt like she was still in the nightmarish world.
She moved back and folded herself in a ball, trying to get a sense of security from her own body's warmth.
'Click.'
At the time, the room lit up, and Mo Jiang came in. His brows frowned and his heart sank seeing her like this. "Juan," He called out softly.
When she heard the familiar voice, she immediately looked up. Her vision was blurred with tears but she could see his face. "Jiang."
She immediately leaped up and ran to his embrace. He immediately hugged her back and patted her back to comfort her. "Everything will be alright."
The sobs echoed in the room. Her body was still shivering badly and she clung to his body as if her life depended on him.
This scenario wasn't new to Mo Jiang and his heart broke to see her like this.
Nevertheless, Mo Jiang still stood firmly on his point that except for comforting her, he wouldn't help her because the person who could help her was she, herself.
It took a while for Liu Juan to calm down. He wiped her tears and handed over a glass of water to drink.
"Come on let's change and go back to sleep. Nothing will happen to you." Mo Jiang said and passed her a towel.
"You won't sleep with me?" Liu Juan asked but her eyes were begging him.
"No." Mo Jiang mercilessly rejected her.
"Please…" Liu Juan continued to look at him pleadingly.
"Go and check your clothes." Mo Jiang didn't reject her directly this time but his intentions were clear.
His heart wailed to see her like this but sometimes, you had to drink bitter medicine to get well. And his indifferent attitude towards her was like bitter medicine.
"I wish I would have died instead of trusting your word back then. You promised me that you will take care of me." Liu Juan pushed him away in frustration.
She had been suffering so much and he didn't even care about her.
"And you also promised me that you will trust me. So where is your trust for me?" Mo Jiang asked, clearly annoyed by her.
Liu Juan looked away and wiped her falling tears drops.
Mo Jiang sighed helplessly and placed his face on her face to make her look at her "Trust me, Juan. I won't hurt you. You know that."
Another drop of tear rolled down from her eye and ended up being wiped off by Mo Jiang's thumb, which was c.a.r.e.s.sing her cheek. She asked as she tried to control her sniffles. "What if...my situation gets worse instead of getting better?"
"It won't happen." Mo Jiang assured her but it wasn't enough for her.
"What if?" She insisted on getting a reply to know what would happen afterward if things didn't go as he said.
"I will do as you say then." Mo Jiang said because except for this, he didn't know what else to say.
"Will you leave me?" Liu Juan abruptly asked. This was the only thing eating her up now. She loved him and she didn't want him to leave her.
In her childhood, she had attached to Liu Ruolan but then the situation turned into a way that she had to separate from her big sister to the point that they had never been together after that and it would not be possible in the future also.
Now she loved Mo Jiang. If he would leave her, then she didn't know how to live her life.
Life had always been unfair to her and perhaps it would continue to be so.
Mo Jiang was startled upon hearing her question. He didn't expect that she had been afraid all this while because of this matter.
"I will not leave you. Ever." Mo Jiang assured her.
"Why?" She asked. An assurance was just a few words from which a person always backed away once the situation wasn't in their favor.
Liu Juan had seen betrayal many times so it wouldn't be a new thing to her but in the end, the person who would be hurt would be her only.
"Because you are the only person on whom I can rely on. You remember, last week I was very stressed out because of Mo Jinnan. He always questions my decisions for him and I always get angry at him. Our relationship has been breaking down and it will almost break down once he joins our underworld business but you didn't let that happen. You even begged him just for my sake. Honestly, Juan, I feel very tired sometimes that I wish I could just leave all these things and run away but I can't. So I need you, Juan. You can say I am being selfish but…"
