140 Chapter 140: There’s No Point In Pretending

Patrick joined in rather joyfully, "Alright, I shall do the same then. The Burtons will have nothing to do with the Carter's from now on."

James announced proudly, "I despise Evette Carter's arrogance and selfishness. We won't cooperate with the Carter's anymore."

One after another, the gentlemen shocked the crowd. The media couldn't believe it. The Carters and the shareholders panicked.

Frank's face turned pale, and it spoke of terror. Then he looked at Nathalia, and suddenly he went for Nathalia but was pushed away by Spencer's bodyguard. He panicked and stomped his feet, totally forgetting to watch his manners and image. "Nathalia, please tell them not to. Please help us."

He thought today would be the day that he would be really proud of, but it turned out to be the most miserable day for him. If all the four companies stopped doing business with the Carter's Company, the loss would be unimaginable.

What would be even worse was that other companies would follow suit? The consequence would be catastrophic.

Even Nathalia was taken aback at first, but quickly she collected herself and replied calmly, "What can I say? It isn't my fault. It's your lovely daughter who's too good at insulting others."

Furiously frustrated, Frank yelled at Nathalia, "You are a shareholder in the company. It would be best if you thought about the company. Please ask them not to do it." Now it involves her own interest. If the company fails, she's not getting any money. This will change her mind. Frank thought naïvely.

Nathalia genuinely didn't care much about money. Money was important, but if this would bring the end of Sally, it was not a bad deal at all. "I'm merely one of many that get bullied by your princess daughter. You are overestimating me, Mr. Frank Carter. I'm not capable of stopping other companies from doing business with the Carter's Company." Nathalia said, frankly. There's no point in pretending to be part of the family and show them sympathy anymore.

Frank was enraged, and again he yelled at Nathalia, "It's also your loss when the company loses money!"

"I don't lack money, and I don't have the ability to save the company anyway," Nathalia said indifferently.

Frank was about to try to persuade Nathalia to gain when Spencer glared at him and took Nathalia in his arms. "Have fun, people. Nathalia and I shall bid thee goodbye now." Spencer said as he waved his hand to the crowd.

Only the Carters and the shareholders stayed behind. "Mr. Carter, your daughter, has caused us a terrible loss!"

"What the hell is she doing here?"

"You have to take full responsibility!" The shareholders voiced their anger, accusing Evette of their loss.

Evette stood leaning on Ann silently and stupidly, her face swollen. Being surrounded in the middle, Frank felt like his head would explode at any moment. The sudden change was too overwhelming for him to accept. However, he had to calm the shareholders down and regain their trust. "When the company is in trouble, we should work together as a team, and with our teamwork and effort, we will go through this."

"We will work together and go through this? Who's responsible for this?! Huh! I'm quitting." Richard said furiously.

The other shareholders were inspired and finally acknowledged what was happening. They chorused, "I'm quitting too."

If they quit now, they could at least still keep the money they had now, but if it was later, they might end up broke.

Frank's face went pale again. This was what he worried about the most. He had now invested all his money and property in. The company couldn't fail now, if it did, it would be the end of him.

Evette shivered as if she just woke up from a trance. She shouted angrily, "You are a bunch of old idiots. It's Nathalia Carter and Spencer Davison's fault. You should take revenge on them instead, not quitting and giving up the company..." Her face hurt terribly as she shouted, but her heart hurt even more. She'd lost face completely, was humiliated and abandoned. Those men who had talked sweet talks to her gave her no support at all, but instead, they hid and escaped.

Her swollen face wasn't an attractive sight at all. It was frightening. Richard hated her to pieces. This brainless stupid asshole. What has she done to us!

"Shut up! You are the one to blame because you are a brainless ignorant piece of shit. Richard snapped.

"You have no shame. You know nothing. All you have ever done is bringing harm and damage to the company. You don't even deserve to live." Nicolas joined in.

Evette felt like the whole world was going against her. She trembled with anger, "All of you, you are..."

"Shut up! All of you!" Frank barked. He was usually the one who could handle the best, but now he was losing it.

The news traveled fast. The whole world knew, and the stock price dropped all the way down to the bottom. The shareholders were selling their shares at the same time. The Carter's Company became worthless overnight.

To save the company, Frank paid to buy off the shares from the shareholders with his own money. He tried to get a loan from the banks but got rejected. Not a single bank would take the risk to give him a loan.

Desperately he turned to a loan shark and managed to buy most of the small percentages of the shares, except the shares from Nathalia, Richard, and Nicolas. Richard was the first one that said he would quit and sell the shares, but he still hadn't taken any action, which was a puzzle. Frank had no time to think about the reason why. He had too much to deal with on his own.

At an elegant Japanese restaurant sat Anna and Spencer's mother. They were chatting and laughing while waiting for Spencer. Anna kept looking at the door, waiting excitedly and anxiously for Spencer's arrival. Since the last incident, she had not seen Spencer. She tried to call him but only to find out that he had blocked her. She went to his company to look for him but was denied entry. She couldn't even find a chance to get close to him.

Now Spencer was inviting his mother out for dinner, and of course, she came along.

"Spencer, you are here. Finally, you..." Anna exclaimed excitedly as soon as she saw Spencer coming in, but then she saw Nathalia behind Spencer, and her face changed instantly, "Why is she here?"

In a light purple dress, adorned with delicate pearl earrings and a crystal necklace, Nathalia looked humbly stunning. Spencer was in a dark grey suit, charming as usual.

His arm around Nathalia's shoulder, he said gently to his mother with a smile, "Mum, this is Nathalia, you remember?"

"Nathalia? Who?" A puzzled look appeared on her face. She had forgotten.
