171 Chapter 171: Love Can’t Be Faked

Nathalia smiled. It wasn't a happy smile, but rather a helpless one. "It's my 20th birthday." She said quietly.

That was the date she died in her previous life. What about this life?

Sophie's face lit up, and her eyes sparkled with excitement, "Wow! We are going to throw a big party! Let's invite everyone to celebrate your birthday. What presents would you like?"

"A big party?" Nathalia repeated as she couldn't help feeling a bit excited as well.

"For sure! It's your birthday." Sophie all smiled.

Just then, the phone rang. Nathalia answered. "What?! Really! Mrs. Davidson is awake! Thank god! That's great." She exclaimed.

Finally, she woke up. Spencer must be very happy.

Quickly she ran to the door.

"Where are you heading to?" Sophie asked. Nathalia turned around with a bright smile, "I'm going to see Mrs. Davidson."

She headed straight to Mrs. Davidson's room. There were still a few bodyguards at the door, but different ones. Anna's bodyguard had been dismissed and replaced by Spencer's. The one standing at the front stepped aside and said politely, "Good evening, Miss Nathalia Carter, please come in."

Her hand on her chest, feeling her pounding heart, she pushed the door open and walked in.

Mrs. Davidson was lying on the bed, her face rather pale, but her eyes wide open. She looked like she was in good spirits. Anna was sitting by the bed, all smiles, 'Mummy, mummy.' Her delicate voice echoed in the room. Spencer was looking at his mother with immense affection and gratitude.

As soon as they heard the door open, all three of them turned to see Nathalia at the door. Anna's face turned sulky. "What are you doing here?"

Spencer's face lit up. He walked towards Nathalia, looked her into her eyes, and a bright smile blossomed on his face. Nathalia returned with an understanding smile.

Everything was said; every emotion was felt and understood in that mutual gaze and smile.

Spencer extended his hand out, Nathalia put hers on it without hesitation. His hand holding hers, they knew they had come a long, long way.

Anger was boiling in Anna as she watched them. "Spencer, did you tell her to come here? She's a murderer. She shouldn't be here." She snapped, not realizing that the murderous look on her face frightened Mrs. Davidson.

Spencer and Nathalia ignored her completely. Spencer took Nathalia's hand and led her to Mrs. Davidson. "Mum, Nathalia has come to see you."

Nathalia gazed at Mrs. Davidson and couldn't hide the joy inside her. "Good evening, Mrs. Davidson. Welcome back to reality." She said cheerfully.

Mrs. Davidson frowned, looking rather confused, "Who are you?"

"Huh?" Nathalia was taken aback. "I'm Nathalia."

Nathalia was shocked. Doesn't she remember me? The two looked at each other, both puzzled.

Anna couldn't take it anymore. She stepped forward and pushed Nathalia aside. With an exaggerating smile on her face, she said, "Mummy, I'm Anna. You must remember me, right?"

Unexpectedly, Mrs. Davidson stared at Anna for a good few minutes and said, "Anna? I don't you."

Nathalia had her eyes wide open, shocked. She took a good look at Mrs. Davidson and noticed that she seemed to have changed. The usual frown between her brows was gone, and her eyes were clear.

"She has lost her memories. She doesn't recognize anyone." Spencer said as if he knew what Nathalia was wondering about.

"Including you? Doesn't she remember you?" Nathalia asked instantly.

A helpless and bitter smile appeared on Spencer's face as he answered, "Yeah. Everyone. All the past. Including him, my father."

Nathalia squeezed his hand with the hand that's holding his and looked at him with silent comfort.

That's probably why she has been in a coma for so long. She got hit on her head. Now it makes sense.

Anna felt so frustrated that she cried out loud, "How come? I'm so sad. Mummy, how can you forget me? I'm your favorite girl."

Mrs. Davidson knitted her brows, feeling rather annoyed by the noise, and said, "Stop crying, please. My goodness. You sound like someone has just died."

Anna was so utterly shocked to see Mrs. Davidson's annoyed face that she stopped crying instantly. Nathalia couldn't help giggling. "Ha."

It somehow seemed amusing.

Anna threw Nathalia an angry look, "What are you laughing about? You find it funny, huh?"

A middle-aged lady who had been standing in the corner, came forward and said sincerely, "Mrs. Davidson, our miss has not only saved your life but has been looking after you all this time. It must upset her very much now that you can't even remember her."

She said it with such sincerity that most people would be touched and think highly of Anna, the savior. They both looked at Mrs. Davidson and waiting for her to show her gratitude, but only to be disappointed.

Mrs. Davidson didn't seem to be listening or understanding a word. She wore a frown and gazed into the distance as if she was in deep thoughts.

Nathalia observed and felt that things had changed.

"Is everything else fine?" She inquired.

"Yeah. It's just she will probably suffer from amnesia forever. The doctor said she probably wouldn't be able to remember the past at all." Spencer replied in a tone as natural as he could manage.

Nathalia had been through death, and it was somehow easier for her to think positively. "As long as she's well, memories don't matter that much."

It hasn't been a very happy life she's had so far. Perhaps forgetting the past is actually a good thing for her, so now she can start anew.

Spencer found the gentleness in Nathalia's voice comforting. "True. Anyway, she's my mother. I love her, and I will take care of her."

Just then, Nathalia noticed the absence of someone and asked tentatively, "By the way, where's your father? He's not here?"

Spencer's face and tone turned cold. "He said there's no need to visit now that she's awakened."

Nathalia rolled her eyes. What? I just can't understand that man. Anyway, it doesn't matter anymore.

Anna and her housemaid went on feeding Mrs. Davidson with the idea that Anna had saved her life, that she was her favorite girl and that they loved each other very much.

Nathalia watched in silence and thought, some people were born selfish, but love can't be faked.
