183 Chapter 183: Is She Not Scared At All?

"You know what, I feel ashamed of you, especially for Spencer. You have messy relationships with women, young or old, and now you are working with Frank Carter! Frank Carter!" Nathalia mocked.

It made Curt speechless. Is she not scared at all?!

"You are only acting brave because you have Spencer to help you, aren't you? I wonder how he will see you if I keep you here overnight." Curt deliberately looked Nathalia up and down and made sure she saw him do it.

Nathalia lifted her chin up and said, "Huh. So what. If he changes his feelings for me, that's his loss. And he doesn't deserve me." She was confident and looked radiant.

Curt rolled his eyes and somehow felt rather pleased. "You are an odd girl, Nathalia Carter, nothing like your mother." She's very clever, even too clever, confident and not shy at all. She's a character. One doesn't find her annoying, but quite the opposite, charming.

The conversation seemed to start flowing without intention. Hearing the mention of her mother, Nathalia sighed and felt a sense of sadness rising inside her. "Good that I'm not like my mother, or I will probably be murdered with poison too."

She wasn't sure of Frank's honesty, but she knew that her mother died from poison, and there were two murders, Frank and Anne.

Thinking of her fragile and kind mother, how her life ended so suddenly and miserably, she felt a sharp pain in her heart. This is what happens when you fall in love with the wrong person, a heartless murderer.

"Murder? Poison? What do you mean?" Curt was utterly shocked. "You mean your mother was..."

Tears filled Nathalia's eyes. She had one hand pressing her chest as if it would stop the pain. "You should know as well as, if not better than me, what Frank Carter is like."

The man who would do anything, even murder his own wife, for his own benefit, was her father. This was her biggest misfortune.

Curt grew furious. He kicked the tea table next to him violently, and it flipped over, sending the teacups crushing on the floor. "Fucking asshole! Frank Carter!" He snapped.

It was a clear night. The stars were out, and the moon shone brightly up in the sky.

As soon as the door opened, Spencer rushed out of the lift straight to Room 1808. He rang the bell and hammered at the door. "Nathalia! Nathalia!"

He received a message saying Nathalia had been taken here and needed help. He raced the whole way to get here as soon as he received the message, worrying, imagining all sorts of terrible scenarios. It almost drove him crazy.

Who is it this time? I'm going to kill him.

He leaned against the door, listened, but couldn't hear a sound. It seemed like there was no one in. "Nathalia? Nathalia?" Again, he hammered at and kicked the door, shouting Nathalia's name.

"Oh. You must be here to find out if Nathalia Carter has a secret date."

"No. Impossible. Nathalia Carter is not that kind of girl."

"Who knows. You know what the Carter family is like."

"True. But who can it be? Do you have any ideas, Spencer Davidson?"

The bombarding questions made Spencer think, and he felt that something was going wrong. "Get lost! All of you!" He yelled at them furiously.

The journalists seemed to have come prepared. They ignored Spencer's fury and kept taking photos and making disturbing and provoking comments.

"This is not your place. You have no right to make us leave."

"Looks like it's true. You've come here to look for Nathalia Carter. No wonder you are so angry."

"Wow. Who would have expected Nathalia Carter to cheat on Spencer Davidson?!"

Just as the journalists were getting excited with their suspicion and remarks, someone opened the door. Instantly, Spencer ran in to see Nathalia seated on the sofa, decently dressed. She looked fine, but one could vaguely see the trace of tears on her face.

"Nathalia, are you ok? Are you hurt?" Spencer asked anxiously as he embraced her. Who is the fucking asshole that hurt my Nathalia? Where is he?!

Nathalia shook her head and said fragilely, "Spencer, my heart aches." Her voice was almost inaudible. Spencer felt the pain it conveyed, and he embraced her tighter. "Don't worry, babe. I'm here now. You are safe. It's alright." He said gently and added apologetically, "I'm sorry I couldn't get here earlier and protect you. I'm sorry, babe."

Tears streamed down Nathalia's face as his comforting words traveled to her heart.

The journalists followed in, only to be surprised and confused to see the scene. This is not what it's supposed to be like.

"What are you doing here, Nathalia Carter? What made you upset?"

"Did something bad happen to you?"

Still, they asked their usual questions, hoping to find a confirmation of their suspicion.

Just then, a tall figure came out of the kitchen. The journalists turned to see the familiar face with an authoritative look and gasped, "Mr. Curt Davidson! It's you?!"

Wait, he should be coming out from the bedroom, not the kitchen.

Spencer looked at his father, utterly shocked. Then he seemed to realize something. All of them, including Nathalia, himself, and these journalists, had fallen into a trap. Someone had planned this. Who could it be? And what was the role his father was playing in it?

Curt walked to Nathalia causally, placed two cups of tea on the table, and said, "What's this fuss about? Nathalia is dating my son, so I want to talk to her. Anything wrong with that?"

The journalists looked at each other, more confused. "Is that it?"

"Really?"

We were expecting something scandalous. Well, definitely nothing like this now.

Curt sat himself down on an armchair, legs crossed. He lifted his eyebrows and gave the journalists a steady look, "What do you mean? As a parent, don't I have the right to talk to my son's girlfriend? We, the Davidsons, are open-minded, and Spencer surely has the freedom to choose who he dates, but it doesn't mean that I, his father, don't care who he's dating. Especially if she's to be my daughter-in-law."

Spencer still had no idea what was really going on, but Nathalia tapped his hand gently to imply that everything was fine. He heaved a sigh of relief and let it be as long as she's fine. He thought.

"So, is Miss Nathalia Carter good enough to be your future daughter-in-law, Mr. Curt Davidson?" One of the journalists asked. They were all puzzled.

Curt glared at them, each of them, and made sure all met his eyes. It made them shiver as they felt the silent threat it cast upon them. Then he shook his head and said, "Not yet. Perhaps in the future. I will see it."

Spencer stroked Nathalia's head and said cheekily, "Silly babe, are you upset because he says no? Don't you worry, we will always be together even if he doesn't allow me to marry you."
