224 Chapter 224: What’s Good About This Girl?

"Why? The injury doesn't bother me. There's nothing wrong with a couple sleeping together. Actually, something's wrong if they don't." Spencer said righteously with a grin.

Nathalia's face turned red again. She pinched his cheeks playfully. "You sound like a relationship consultant."

"What are you doing?!" Mrs. Davidson appeared and reproached all of a sudden.

Startled, Nathalia sat right up, blushing. Did she hear what we said?

"Mum! You scared both of us. What's the matter now?" Spencer covered his forehead with one hand and said helplessly. She's been nitpicking these days. Nothing pleases her—what a headache. Spencer thought. Soon I will have to figure out a solution.

Mrs. Davidson sat herself down right next to Spencer and glared at Nathalia. "Behave yourselves. You are not married yet." She said sulkily.

Nathalia pouted her lips and decided to ignore what Mrs. Davidson said. She sat wondering about her classes, which she had missed a few days, then about the company, wondering how Mrs. Watson was doing. Spencer yawned loudly and lay down on the sofa, thinking she doesn't mean what she says. It's alright.

Mrs. Davidson went on grumbling for a while till she realized that neither of them was listening. She was just talking to herself. Annoyed, she slapped the table and yelled, "Nathalia, are you listening? I'm talking to you!"

I just don't understand why my son is so obsessed with her. What's so good about this girl? Huh.

"Well." Nathalia had gotten used to Mrs. Davidson's temper, so she replied casually, "What would you like me to do? You want me to argue back? Sure, I'm quite good at it anyway."

Mrs. Davidson was more furious. She never gives up—this cheeky thing. "Get back to your place. This is not your home. You are annoying me here." She said angrily.

Nathalia stood up and went to the door without a word.

Can't she just be nice to me once? She's even more stubborn than me. Mrs. Davidson thought.

Spencer stood up and went after Nathalia. He grabbed her hand to stop her.

"Mum. You are ridiculous. It's not like the 50s now. Lots of couples live together before they get married. If we are annoying you, then I will move in with Nathalia..."

Spencer had chosen to live with his mother merely because he worried about her living alone, and she might want the company.

The more protective of Nathalia Spencer was, the angrier Mrs. Davidson was. "We are different. We are the Davidsons. We don't want a girl that's too easy. What do you think, Nathalia? Huh?"

Nathalia heaved a sigh of helplessness. She's not a bad person, just irritating sometimes.

Seeing her face, Spencer burst out laughing, hugging Nathalia, and gave her a squeeze. It was supposed to be an argument, but Nathalia had somehow turned it into a comedy.

Mrs. Davidson found it amusing too, but she managed not to laugh. "Huh, Nathalia, how dare you to speak of my son like that?"

Nathalia didn't feel threatened at all, instead, she said with a grin, "Your son, you mean my man? Of course, I can say anything about my man."

Mrs. Davidson didn't really have bad intentions. She was just a stubborn one. Nathalia understood that, or she would have avoided her long ago.

Spencer was grinning. "Yes. Yes. Of course, you can say anything about me." He patted Nathalia's head, cheekily. Then he turned to Mrs. Davidson and said, in a pleading tone, "Mum. I really feel like lasagna for dinner tonight. I know you make the best lasagna! Can you please make it for me? Oh, but we don't have the ingredients. Nathalia, you know, mum is a really good chef."

Hearing so, Mrs. Davidson all smiled. Then she remembered that she was supposed to be angry, so the smile disappeared and was replaced with a sulking look. "Huh, you are spoiling her." The more one cares about others, the easier they get hurt. I just don't want my son to get hurt again.

Spencer embraced Nathalia and defended, "Well, of course, I shall spoil her. She's my wife-to-be." He winked at his mum and continued, "I'm sure mum agrees that a man should love and care about his partner."

"Alright. Alright. I give up. I will go and get some ingredients for dinner tonight." Mrs. Davidson waved her hand helplessly and went out with a few bodyguards.

Spencer and Nathalia exchanged a cheeky look, like two naughty kids, pleased with their tricks. Nathalia then suggested, "Why don't you get a little present for your mum? Women love presents."

Spencer was touched. He knew that Nathalia cared about his mother despite her nonsensical behaviors. And he understood that it was because Nathalia loved him.

"Do you love presents too?" He gave her a cheeky wink. "Yes. That's a great idea. I shall make her happy, so we can have a wedding soon. Hahaha."

"Cheeky one." Nathalia tapped his nose and smiled.

Just then, her phone rang. "Hi, Sophie. How are you?"

"I'm ok. It's just..." Sophie hesitated.

"What's the matter?" Nathalia was worried. She listened quietly, thinking Sophie seems upset.

After she hung up, she said to Spencer, "I'm going to see Sophie. I will be back soon." Spencer could sense that there was something wrong.

He suggested, "I will come with you. I promise I won't interfere."

At a quiet café near home, Nathalia and Sophie sat by a table by the window. A pot of flower tea and some chocolate cookies were ordered.

Sophie explained anxiously, but Nathalia seemed unconcerned. "Nathalia, please go and see Matt. He's not doing well at all."

Sophie had heard that Matt's mother passed away, and a lot had happened to him. She went to see him once, and he looked distressed. It hurt her to see him like that. Though she had sat with him and comforted him all day, it was in vain.

Nathalia had a sip of tea and put the cup down. "I'm not going." She said calmly. With Matt, it was complicated how she felt. She respected him. She liked him. However, after the incident, she had decided that there would be nothing left between them.

Neither of them wanted to see each other as it would remind both of them of that terrible night. Some wounds needed to heal by themselves, without touching them, without interfering.

Sophie was shocked by Nathalia's indifference. "Why? You know you are the one that Matt cares about the most. You see him for just one minute will be much more helpful than me spending days with him. Nathalia, Matt has helped you a lot. Whenever you were in danger, he was there to help. Now he needs your help. Please, Nathalia."

She would love to stay with him, take care of him herself, but she knew that he didn't need her, and that was the saddest part.
