235 Chapter 235: It’s Wonderful

She could recall clearly what Spencer had done for her. Whatever happened, he was there for her, to protect her, to love her. Life is short. I would rather give up the rest and spend it with the man I love.

Mrs. Davidson suddenly looked worried. "Well, I used to treat you badly. Do you resent me for that?" Mrs. Davidson had misunderstood Nathalia, and she had finally realized that she herself had been wrong. Yet, she was too proud to apologize directly.

Nathalia understood what she meant. She smiled and teased, "Well, I did, a little bit, in the beginning. You know what I'm like. However, I love Spencer, and you're his mother. Also, I'm very generous and forgiving, so I forgave you long ago..." She grinned happily.

"But, but, just then, when you..." Nathalia recalled what happened earlier, and she was in tears. "when you stood up for me, I was really touched and grateful." She lowered her head down to hide her tears from Mrs. Davidson and quickly wiped them off.

Mrs. Davidson knew how tough Nathalia had been trying to be. It isn't that she chose to, but she had to. If she had someone to fight for her, to protect her, she didn't have to play the role of a tough girl, wearing the heavy armor, going through all these battles on her own.

That's why she's grown to be a sensitive and proud one, refusing to show a hint of weakness to others, refusing to shed tears in front of others. She knew that showing weakness will bring her harm, fatal harm.

Mrs. Davidson then thought of her son. Spencer has been rather aloof and distant because of Curt and me. He's never like a normal kid, but ever since he met Nathalia, he's changed. He jokes, he laughs, he's much happier. It's wonderful!

"I like the way you are, Nathalia. Real and honest. Oh, just thinking about the faces of the Berry family just now, hahaha, aren't they embarrassing?!" Mrs. Davidson tried to cheer her up. Nathalia cooperated and changed the subject.

"I know. If you are weak, they will just take advantage of you. If I had begged them today, they wouldn't have had pity on me."

Both Amy and Kelly hated Nathalia and had been hoping to get rid of her.

Mrs. Davidson agreed, "True. True. People like them will just take advantage of good people. That girl, the younger daughter, wanted to humiliate you just then, but she's too dumb."

It was obvious that Mrs. Davidson was biased now. Nathalia nodded with a grin. She felt supported and loved.

After a delightful dinner, they returned home happily. Just as they got off the car at the gate, someone rushed to them suddenly and violently. It gave everyone a fright. The bodyguards reacted quickly and gathered around Nathalia and Mrs. Davidson.

In an old wrinkled T-shirt and jeans, Evette looked a mess, her face tired and pale.

Ever since the incident on the rooftop, Nathalia had not seen Anne nor Evette. She was outraged by Evette's accusation, "What a joke! How do I know? I don't follow her about."

It was certain that Anne would not be able to get back to her normal life again, considering what she had done. Evette and Ben would get their punishment too if they hadn't yet.

Evette stomped her feet angrily. She had a cunning look on. "Don't you try to pretend anymore? I'm warning you. You'd better tell me the truth. Where's my mother? If I don't see my mother safe, I will sue you."

Nathalia shook her head, a speechless sneer on her face. She knows very well what she's done. What gave her the courage to show up like this? Isn't she guilty? Isn't she scared of punishment?

"Go ahead," Nathalia said casually.

"Nathalia Carter..." Evette shouted angrily, then she noticed Mrs. Davidson, looked around, and changed her mind. She put on a sad and pathetic look and started crying, "Please, please, I'm begging you, please don't hurt my mother. If you hate us and you can come after me instead. Please just don't hurt my mother. She's already suffered so much..." She was pleading so loud that soon a crowd gathered.

"What's happening here?"

"Let's go and have a look."

"Aren't those two the Carter sisters? I've heard that they never get along. Some kind of family issue."

"They are two people from two different worlds now."

Hearing people murmuring about them, Evette went on playing the pitiful role, pleading, "Please, Nathalia, my sister, please don't hurt mum. Zack, our younger brother, and I can't live without mum. You've already killed dad. Mum is our only family now. You've taken away everything we had, fortune, fame, the man I love. You've got everything now. Please have mercy on us." She made it sound like she was the poor Cinderella while Nathalia was the evil rich girl.

Wearing a beige summer dress, a pair of delicate pearl earrings, her skin fair, her hair neat and beautiful, Nathalia looked elegant and stunning. Those that were more observant would notice her engagement ring shining under the light.

On the contrary, Evette looked completely unpresentable, like she'd been homeless. The differences between them were obvious, and somehow people tended to pity the weak.

"Look at that poor girl. She used to be the beauty queen."

"I know. Sadly, she's not a lucky one."

Evette was no longer the princess of the respectable Carter family anymore, but a rather experienced flirtatious social butterfly amongst men.

"Nathalia Carter is so cruel. Did she actually kill her own father? My god"

"I don't think so. She's not that kind of person."

The crowd talked and pointed, and somehow gradually, most of them were on Evette's side, taking pity on her. Evette cried even louder, taking advantage of people's mercy.

Mrs. Davidson started to worry. She didn't like Evette's pretentiousness. This is not doing Nathalia any good. She frowned.

Just as she was about to say something, Nathalia took out her phone and dialed 911. "Officer, I need help here. There's a lunatic here. She must have run away from the asylum."

People were shocked by Nathalia's sudden move. She dealt with it calmly and bluntly, no wasting time, no need for explanation.
