279 Chapter 279: That Will Do For Now

Nathalia glanced at Spencer, impressed by how easily and well he could tell lies while wondering why aunt Emma came to visit mum at this time.

"Alright, I will visit tomorrow." Aunt Emma understood what Spencer was implying. She followed them into the lift.

"Nathalia." aunt Emma said.

Nathalia was rather taken aback. She turned to look at aunt Emma and replied calmly, "Yes? aunt Emma." Spencer put his arms around Nathalia's shoulder intentionally, protectively.

Aunt Emma noticed straight away and couldn't help teasing, "I don't bite. You don't need to worry." I'm his aunt, who cares for him more than anyone else, and he's being cautious with me. She thought. It must be in the Davidson family's genes. When they are in love, they don't make sense anymore.

Spencer realized that he was being a bit over-reacting and defended instantly, "Well. I've seen how you two got along last time. I'm just being careful. I know you two too well. Aunt Emma, I don't want my lovely wife to get upset again. Hahaha." He laughed a bit awkwardly.

Aunt Emma threw a stern look at Spencer, thinking what a loving nephew you are! Then to their surprise, she smiled at them and said, "Neither do I. Don't you worry? Your mother has obviously accepted Nathalia as part of the family, and I won't say no or interfere anymore."

It's so weird to see her smile like that. Not like her at all. Nathalia thought. She should be cold and stern. Anyway, at least she's not rude to me this time.

The door opened. They went out of the lift. Spencer was more than pleased to hear aunt Emma's reply. "That's great. I knew you would approve. I feel so relieved now. Hahaha."

Noticing that Nathalia wasn't much impressed, aunt Emma tried again, with a brighter smile on her face, "Nathalia, I've learned that you have a fashion company. I wonder if you are interested in some cooperation."

"Cooperation?" Nathalia was surprised, but she was more worried than excited, wondering what aunt Emma was plotting about. She seems to have learned much about me.

Aunt Emma replied, with the same smile on her face, "Yes. You can be my exclusive agent in the States. I need an agent here, and I believe you are the perfect one."

Spencer's face lit up at the idea. "Babe, I think it's a great opportunity. Why not give it a think?"

Nathalia didn't like aunt Emma as a person much, and she had been cautious with her. It was her sixth sense. However, she didn't show her real feelings.

"Thanks, aunt Emma, for the great opportunity. I will think about it." She replied calmly and politely.

"No problem. Take your time. By the way, I apologize for being rude to you the other day, please don't take it to heart. We shall get along well, even just for Spencer's sake, right?" Aunt Emma said with the same calmness.

"Sure. If aunt Emma truly feels apologetic, I'll forgive you certainly, and If you do want to get along well with me, I would love to do the same." Nathalia replied, looking at aunt Emma, with a confident smile.

Both Spencer and aunt Emma had heard the sarcasm implied. Spencer squeezed her hand a bit, thinking a cheeky thing.

The smile on aunt Emma's face disappeared instantly. It took her a little while to regain her coolness, and rather helplessly, she said, "I do, truly. I hope you are not too sensitive."

Nathalia was about to retort but thought better of it. That will do for now.

Spencer's driver had been waiting when they got to the parking lot. Spencer opened the door for Nathalia; she went in, then he suggested, "Would you like us to give you a lift home, aunt Emma?"

Aunt Emma was, in fact, furious and trying hard to keep calm. "It's alright. I'm driving. My car's just over there."

Spencer nodded and said, "Cool. Good night then." He waved and went in the car. Nathalia opened the car window and said goodbye, politely.

"Now, tell me, why don't you like aunt Emma?" Spencer heaved a sigh and asked gently.

Nathalia might be able to hide her true feelings from others, but never from Spencer. He always knew. She leaned on him and rested her head on his shoulder as she confessed, "I'm just being cautious. I'm following my instincts. It's the way she looks at me that scares me a bit. I don't know why." Her little body shivered slightly as she recalled how aunt Emma looked at her.

Spencer noticed and put his arm around her. "Hmm. That's strange. Perhaps you are being a bit too sensitive?"

"I know my instincts. I can tell if someone truly likes me or not." Nathalia said confidently, then she felt a bit regretful and sighed, "anyway, I do hope I'm just being too sensitive this time."

Spencer's very close to aunt Emma. It won't please him if I show my disapproval towards her openly. She thought to herself. I need to consider his feelings.

Now that she said so, Spencer was actually a bit convinced. He knitted his brows and thought it over.

Nathalia took a glance at Spencer and said, "There's something I want to make it clear, though. Whether aunt Emma likes me or not, I don't really want to be too close to her. I need to think about my mum. How she feels is the most important. Compared to mum, aunt Emma is just aunt Emma, but mum means a lot to me."

Nathalia was being honest about her feelings towards aunt Emma. She felt that there was a lot of resentment, though she had no idea where it came from, in the way aunt Emma looked at her. She had managed to put up with it, though it was very depressing.

Spencer found her frankness lovely. He giggled and patted her head gently. "I see. No worries. I will take care of it." Nathalia has a point. Aunt Emma is close to me, but she and Nathalia have only just met. I can't expect them to be close like aunt Emma and myself. I need to think about how mum feels as well as aunt Emma. Hmm.

Nathalia felt much better after expressing her thoughts. She lifted up her head, kissed Spencer, and leaned back on his shoulder. "Thanks, honey, for understanding."

Spencer stroked her hair gently. "Just be yourself like you always do." Within seconds, Spencer heard Nathalia's steady breathing, and he realized that she had fallen asleep. She must have been tired these days. He thought and pecked a gentle kiss on her head affectionately.

When they arrived at the apartment building gate, Spencer was about to carry Nathalia out of the car, but Nathalia awakened. "We are home, babe." He said gently.

Nathalia rubbed her eyes like a little kitten and nodded. When they got out of the car, a few bodyguards gathered around the car, and a tall figure came walking towards them. The moon was up and bright. Their shadows stretched long on the ground.

"Spencer, I want to talk to you."

Spencer knitted his brows and rejected without hesitation. "Mr. Curt Davidson. There's nothing to talk about between us." He said plainly.

Thinking of Nathalia, he tried to stay calm.

He won't even call me dad. Curt thought. "I'm your father, Spencer." He said helplessly.
