278 Chapter 278: This Is The Feeling Of Coming Home

Nathalia stood up to help and thanked Dan politely. "Dan, I've bought some chocolate cake from mum's favorite bakery. Perhaps we can have some for dessert later." She pointed to the bags placed at the table. "Also, I've got mum some fruits, apples, grapes, and that. An apple a day keeps the doctor away, right?" She said pleasantly.

Dan nodded with a smile, "Right, Mrs. Nathalia Davidson, I can't agree more." Dan, as well as all the staff, was very fond of Nathalia, who was amicable, friendly, and cheerful to everyone. She treated them with respect, and they were grateful.

She really cares for Mrs. Davidson, and she's brought so much joy to the family. Unlike Anna, who would pretend to be nice and caring when Mrs. Davidson was around and just ordered us around like we were slaves.

Mr. Spencer Davidson has got a very good wife, indeed.

Nathalia chatted with Mrs. Davidson while waiting for Spencer. "Mum, there's a new comedy out. I watched it the other day, and it's really funny. You can watch it when you feel bored during the day."

"Oh, also, I've just discovered a few good tunes. I think you will like them. Shall I get them on Spotify on your phone?" Nathalia said excitedly.

"Yes, please." Mrs. Davidson smiled.

Spencer had just arrived and heard the sweet conversation at the door. Nathalia's voice was like a gentle breeze that blew away all his worries. He felt loved.

"Mum, Nathalia." He opened the door gently and greeted them with a hug.

"How's my charming one today?"

"How's my handsome boy today?"

Nathalia and Mrs. Davidson said at the same time, and both giggled.

"Can't be better." Spencer grinned.

"Shall we have dinner? The food looks fantastic." Nathalia suggested and smiled at Dan, who replied with a proud smile.

"We shall." Mrs. Davidson and Spencer said immediately. They sat around the small table as a happy family.

"The veggies look yummy. Shall I get you some, mum?" Nathalia asked gently.

"Yes, please."

Spencer recalled that his mother wasn't partial to vegetables and rarely volunteered to eat much of it, but she seemed to say yes to everything that Nathalia suggested. He observed delightfully while slicing the steak for his mother.

"Here, mum. I've sliced it. Would you like some peppercorn sauce?" He handed the plate of sliced steak to his mother.

"Yes, please. You two are spoiling me." Mrs. Davidson grinned happily.

They dined happily. Nathalia talked about the little things that happened in university, and Spencer told a few small jokes.

He looked at her quietly, with much love and gratitude. We are a family. This is the feeling of coming home.

It was only till now did he understand what home felt like. I've lived for over twenty years, and I've only had the taste of home now. He thought.

After dinner, Mrs. Davidson suggested Spencer and Nathalia go home soon, thinking that they had studied and work early the next day, but they insisted on staying longer to accompany her.

It was about ten o'clock when they left the hospital. The young couple kissed their mother goodbye and goodnight.

Chef Dan had been looking after Mrs. Davidson for the longest time, and he would sit and chat with her now and then. "Mrs. Davidson, I'm so happy for you. Finally, after all these hard and lonely years..."

Dan had seen it through. Though she was the mistress of the Davidson family, she had not lived happily. Dan remembered how she was often sick and spent much time alone in the hospital. She was possibly the richest yet the loneliest woman. People saw her luck with her fame and fortune, but she was, in fact, the unfortunate one.

Her husband, Curt, was too busy having a good time with other women while her son, Spencer, had both study and work and very little time to look after her. Anna was only there to talk to her and never truly cared for her. But, now, Nathalia had brought much love to the family. She knew what food Mrs. Davidson loved, what was good for her, and she loved to spend time with her.

Every day she would bring a delightful little surprise, be it desserts, flowers, a book, a movie, a good song, etc. She selected them herself, with love. She would talk to her about her study, about the news, about future plans, about traveling together. She would dine with her... All these little things she'd done had brought so much comfort.

Whenever she was around, everyone felt the joy and positive spirit.

It wasn't about money. It was that Nathalia truly cared for and loved Mrs. Davidson.

Mrs. Davidson nodded in agreement. "Indeed. And I shall cherish it and live better." She said with a content smile. Nathalia has done it. She said she would treat me as her own mother, and she has. She's loved me as her own mother. She's a gift from God. I'm truly grateful.

"That's right! Live better and happier. You deserve it." Dan grinned.

Mrs. Davidson had the sudden realization that she had wasted so much time for a man that cared about nobody but himself; that there was love between families, friends, even strangers, and relationship love was only one form of the many; that to restrict oneself in just this one form of love was very unwise.

It was Nathalia that helped her understand and realize. She recalled what Nathalia once said, that the best revenge was not to destroy them but to live better than them. She felt a sudden and powerful sensation of being reborn.

As Spencer and Nathalia were waiting for the lift, holding hands, Spencer couldn't help feeling proud of having Nathalia as his wife, and he pecked a kiss on her head gratefully. When the door opened, a fancily-dressed woman walked out.

"Spencer, are you going home now? Is your mother asleep?" She asked casually.
