281 Chapter 281: She Needs Suppor

Both Nathalia and Spencer had long grown used to the persistence and annoyance of the journalists, and they knew to speak as little as possible.

The journalists, sensitive to details, had noticed that this young couple had been very caring to their mother, visiting her twice a day every day. And the news about their visit had brought them a good reputation, while on the contrary, Curt had been judged as an irresponsible and violent husband.

Gossips went on and on as people awaited the court day impatiently.

Mrs. Davidson was still feeling a bit delicate when she left the hospital about a week before the court day. On that day, she didn't wear any make-up, without the intention of hiding her pale look. She put on a black jacket, which added an air of solemnity around her.

Spencer knitted his brows, worriedly, "Mum, let me go with you."

"You can't." Mrs. Davidson refused instantly and directly. She'd had her mind made up. She could picture what it would be like, and she didn't want her son involved.

"Then, please let me go with you. I'm only there to accompany you. I'm not a direct family member. It should be ok, right?" Nathalia cut in immediately. She was as worried as, if not more than, Spencer. Mum's too gentle, and she still has feelings for him. She needs support.

Mrs. Davidson thought about it, hesitated, then said as if with great effort, "Alright." Deep down, she knew that even though she had made her decision to leave him, she would still hesitate when she saw him.

Spencer walked them to the gate. As soon as they appeared, a group of journalists gathered around them, bombarding them with several questions. The public seemed to be more excited than the family. What a strange world! Nathalia thought.

"Susan, have you lost your mind? Are you sure you want to do this? You are crazy." Unexpectedly, aunt Emma showed up from the crowd and questioned loudly.

Everyone turned to look at her. Her fancy attire and heavy make-up caught a lot of attention like she always did. Everywhere she went, she would appear like a superstar. And she was one indeed.

The anger in her voice and her look silenced everyone. They waited quietly for Mrs. Davidson's response.

"It's none of your business." Mrs. Davidson looked at aunt Emma sternly and replied icily.

Spencer and Nathalia exchanged a confused look. This is not like mum. So direct and determined. They both thought.

Aunt Emma's cheeks turned red with frustration. "You are damaging our family's reputation. We don't allow divorce in our family..." she retorted righteously.

Nathalia was speechless. Why the hell did she say that? She's mum's sister! Shouldn't she be supportive instead?

She paused for a bit as a sneer appeared on her face, then she went on, "Don't you worry about your business. I know Curt well enough to be sure that he will still support your business despite our divorce."

Again, Spencer and Nathalia looked at each other, both confused and shocked. Where does that come from?

The journalists were busy taking photos and taking notes, recording every bit of the excitement.

Aunt Emma was shocked herself. She defended immediately, "I don't worry about my business, and I don't need to. Even if the Davidson goes down, my business won't be affected the least bit. I'm speaking to you as your sister now. I don't want to see you go this way. Also, you need to think about your son Spencer. It's unfair to him."

Aunt Emma spoke emotionally. She seemed to look concerned and genuinely cared about her sister.

Mrs. Davidson was so furious that she couldn't find her tongue for some time. Nathalia noticed and decided to speak up for her. "Aunt Emma, don't you think you should mind your own business? Mum has the very right to decide on her own life. Also, the law will tell what's right or wrong. It's not up to you or others to decide or judge..."

Aunt Emma found it shocking that Nathalia would speak to her like that in public. "Nathalia, I would expect you to show me some respect and be polite, but considering your age and experience, I shall forgive you for your insolence this time."

Huh. Look how forgiving she is! I just don't like her pretentiousness. Nathalia thought to herself. She sneered and said very casually, "If you expect my respect, then you should at least make an effort to prove that you deserve it. You insulted your sister in public, calling her selfish. I really suspect if you care for her or you are here with the intention to hurt her."

Aunt Emma was utterly enraged. She's telling me off in public. What an insolent girl!

"Nonsense! Susan is my only sister. If I didn't care for her, who would?! You are such a mean and insolent girl! You are narrow-minded, and you are ruining the family for your selfishness."

Nathalia found the accusation so ridiculous that she couldn't help laughing out. "Hahaha. Mum knows very well who cares for her, who truly loves her, and who DOESN'T. What do you mean exactly by saying I'm ruining the family? That, you will have to explain to the public."

She was sharp and quick, not allowing herself to be taken advantage of at all. Is she saying I'm trying to separate Spencer's mum and dad?! That's ridiculous! I can't allow her to accuse me of such ridiculousness.

Cleverly, aunt Emma smiled and pretended to be calm and loving as she changed her strategy, "Spencer, your wife is still very young. Too young, perhaps. There's still a lot she needs to learn. You will help her, won't you?." Aunt Emma was rather confident that her nephew would support her.

To her surprise, Spencer snapped angrily, "Aunt Emma, thank you very much for caring for my mother, but this is none of your business, please don't interfere." This was the very first time that Spencer was angry with aunt Emma and retorted furiously.

"Nathalia is my wife. I think she's perfect. She's young, but she understands a lot more than most people. You probably don't know that in the past year, she has donated a couple of million dollars to children's charities, education especially." He said it clearly as he looked at his wife proudly.

"She never told the public as she doesn't see it necessary. She's doing it simply because she wants to. I love her more for that, and I'm proud of her." Whenever someone tried to run down Nathalia, Spencer would be the first to defend her.

The journalists' attention was diverted instantly on hearing about the charity work that Nathalia did.

"That's incredible! Mrs. Nathalia Davidson, why didn't you tell the public?"

"You have such a big heart and are so humble."
