317 Chapter 317: It’s A Basic Responsibility

Though Nathalia didn't like Amy Berry, she found Matt's reaction rather cruel. He chose to marry her, and then he should at least treat her well. It doesn't have to do with love. It's a basic responsibility. Anyway, it's none of my business. She's barely anybody to me. She thought in silence.

Sophie was clenching her fists, wondering what to do. "Matt, please go and check on her. Nathalia and I are fine." She said pleadingly.

Matt took a good look at Nathalia as if to seek her consent, then left.

"Oh, Nathalia, why did it end up like this? What if they do break up? I feel so bad." Amy asked worriedly. I shouldn't have agreed to him to meet up. Oh, but I can never say no to him. It's so difficult.

Nathalia wasn't feeling great, but she said casually, "It's not your fault, and it's their own issue. Don't worry about it. They are old enough to settle their issues,"

It was expected what happened between them. There must be something wrong in their relationship from the beginning. Whether they get married or not, it's not my business.

As long as Spencer, Mum, Lisa, and Sophie are good, I'm happy. These were the people she cared about.

Sophie looked at Nathalia, feeling puzzled and surprised."How can you be so calm like it was nothing? Don't you feel bad at all?" she asked. She sounded a bit reproachful and disappointed.

"Why should I feel bad?" Nathalia smiled. I didn't do anything wrong.

"You are so cold!" Sophie threw a glaring look at her, which surprised Nathalia. It was the first time Sophie had ever shown resentment towards her, and it was for Matt.

She didn't want to explain. We are growing apart. She thought to herself. We have very different opinions, attitudes towards life.

However, she would never forget it was Sophie and Lisa that gave her support and hope during the most difficult time in her life, and for that, she would always be grateful. A sudden sense of sadness surrounded her.

She stood up and said gently, "Let me drive you home."

Sophie was still upset and angry. She refused coldly, "Thanks, but I will walk." She turned around and left without saying goodbye.

Nathalia heaved a sigh. She thought of running after her but changed her mind. It's better to give her some time for herself to clear her thoughts.

She felt like there was a gap between them, and it was growing bigger and bigger. She wanted to eliminate it, but it seemed useless.

On the way home, she thought a lot. As soon she got home, she went straight to bed to have some quiet time.

In a drowsy voice, she said gently, "Hey, honey. How was work? Are you tired? Do you want me to run a bath for you?"

Spencer lay down next to her and cuddled her. "I'm good. Why is Nathalia sleeping at this time? Did you see Sophie? Is everything ok?" he asked caringly, even a bit worriedly, as he pecked a kiss on her cheek.

Nathalia hesitated for a bit and told him the truth about everything that happened. She knew that Spencer didn't like Matt and he didn't want her to see him, but she didn't want to lie to him or hide anything from him. She always believed in honesty between couples.

Spencer cuddled her tighter and was silent.

Nathalia waited for a reply, but she was offered none. A bit worried, she asked, "Are you angry with me? I didn't know he would be there." I would not go if I knew. And Sophie is now mad at me. She sighed quietly.

"You didn't do anything wrong, babe. It's Sophie. She should understand better." Spencer said calmly.

Sophie was Nathalia's only friend, and her mother, Lisa, had helped Nathalia a lot, so Spencer had always respected them for Nathalia's sake. However, after hearing what had happened today, Spencer grew a bit displeased with Sophie.

There are plenty of fish in the sea. Why does she fancy him? And she basically tricked Nathalia to meet that guy! That's what I really don't like about her. Spencer thought.

Nathalia pouted her lips and interrupted, "Sophie is just innocent. Her intention was good. She only meant to help, but I guess she's just a bit lost in love."Which is understandable; Nathalia thought, people, especially girls, tend to be irrational when they are in love.

Spencer understood that Nathalia was defending Sophie as she was her friend, that as long as it's the person she cared about, she would defend them, including himself, his mother, Lisa, and Sophie.

He heaved a sigh and said, "Lisa is a smart woman, but her daughter..." then he sensed Nathalia's body turned rigid and changed the subject and said in a cheerful tone, "Anyway, let's forget about it. Come, get up, dinner is ready."

He got up, turned on the lights, got Nathalia's clothes ready for her, watched, and waited for her quietly as she got dressed. When she was ready, he suddenly picked her up and carried her to the dining room. Nathalia giggled happily.

The table was set. There was pumpkin soup, cheese and fruit plate, Caesar salad, and roasted beef. It smelled delicious. Nathalia grinned at the food, and it was only till then did she realize that she was starving.

Spencer put her down on the chair. She glanced around and looked puzzled. "Where's mum? Is she not eating?"

Spencer knitted his brows, looking a bit annoyed, and said sulkily, "She's gone to see Jake. She said they have something important to talk about."
