367 Chapter 367: Part Of The Reason

Curt looked remorseful and upset. "It was my fault. I've made her suffer a lot. If I had not married her, then she would probably have been living happily with someone who loves her."

He knew very well how the women that had been with him had ended up unhappy. Though there was a lot of misunderstanding, he knew his wife was a wonderful woman, and if it wasn't because of him, she would live a happy life.

Nathalia had to admit that she agreed with him. Curt was a successful man in his career, but he wasn't really a qualified husband. It was love and a sense of security that a woman wanted from her man, rather than success and wealth.

"But that would mean no Spencer in this world," Nathalia said without thinking.

Matt jerked his head and took another look at Nathalia in the mirror. A strong sense of jealousy struck him.

"Silly girl..." Curt sighed. He watched Nathalia closely and said, "You are like her, yet not like her." He said thoughtfully. Nathalia is strong-minded. She's patient and persistent. She knows how to protect herself and fight for the life she wants, though she can be very stubborn, and it makes it difficult for those that love her. At the same time, she keeps her innocence. Her mother was gentle and kind and believed that the world would be kind to her. She was too well protected and never learned how to protect herself.

Nathalia had wanted to ask about the past between Curt and her mother, and now was the best time to do so. "Why didn't you marry my mother instead then?"

Curt was so taken aback by the question that he was quiet for a while. He looked helpless and in pain. "We, we weren't meant to be together. I don't even know if she ever loved me."

Matt turned to look at his father with his eyes wide open. Nathalia was surprised as well. "Huh? What do you mean?"

Curt smiled a bitter smile. As he recalled the past, emotions started to take control over reasons, and he let it all out. "She didn't know much about me. She didn't know my background, my family. I was just a lost man who liked staying at her places, unwilling to leave..."

Nathalia grew more and more puzzled as she listened. Why? He's Curt Davidson! He should be proud of his identity.

"Your grandfather was very successful, renowned, and well-respected. I always looked up to him, but I didn't want to meet him as the son of the Davidsons, so I didn't tell them the truth..."

Though Katherine was shy, she was very innocent and shared everything with him. She told him all her secrets; she would look at him with sparks in her eyes, yet they never made it clear what their relationship was.

He was too proud to express his love for her, and when his father had fallen ill, and he had to leave and take care of the company, he left without speaking his heart out. He left her a bunch of flowers and a bracelet as a farewell present.

When he was away from her, he started to realize how much he loved her. He couldn't get her out of his mind. He told himself that when he visited again, he would tell her he loved her and he wanted to be with her, to take care of her and to love her.

He thought the time would come soon, yet too many things happened then, and it was half a year later when he returned. He only returned to find out that she was married.

Nathalia was amazed. She listened attentively. "And then?"

The smile on Curt's face grew even bitterer. "That's it."

Proud as he was, he didn't pursue. He didn't ask any questions; he didn't say anything; he just left.

That was the very first time he had fallen in love. Disappointed and heartbroken, he started fooling about amongst women. He obeyed his father and married whomever they wanted him to. However, he never forgot her. He couldn't.

Matt was shocked to learn that his father had once loved so genuinely, so purely, that he was once young and deep in love. But it was such a sad ending.

Nathalia didn't know what to say. That's it?! "Well, did you never go to see her..."

After Kathrine got married, her life was not bad in the first few years. But when her father passed away, everything changed. Her pregnancy didn't help either. Frank Carter had no love for her, no mercy on her.

Didn't Curt know anything about that? Nathalia wondered.

"No. I never asked about her. I stayed away from her. I thought it would be better for her, but I never knew that she would..." He paused and felt tears filling his eyes. She died so young. If I ever knew, I would have gone back to her, to love her and look after her. I was too proud.

When he heard the news of her death a few years later, he almost lost his mind. For days he locked himself up in the room, recalling the past. In the end, he had to come back to Miami to see her.

He sobbed terribly by her tombstone, seeing the picture of her young and beautiful face.

If he did marry mum, then mum would not have died so young, but, but, there would be no Spencer...Nathalia thought guiltily.

"Is that why you moved from the headquarter to here?"

Curt looked at Nathalia and thought, she's too clever, and I can't lie to her about anything. She's so different from her mother. "Part of the reason." He answered.

Nathalia didn't know how to think about the whole thing. It changed a lot of her perceptions about Curt. She had not expected that he had loved so genuinely.

"Let the past be the past. It's for the best." She said quietly.

Dearest Lovies,

Rest assured, this couple will have a happy ending after all the struggles and pain. Let me share my journey during the time I write this novel, I cried a lot, emotions filled my heart and there are times I have to stop writing because tears flooded my eyes. Novel writing is one of my passion but I never use the money I earned from all the novels I uploaded on this platform because I live a comfortable life and I earned decently from doing several businesses. All the income generated from all of my novels goes to several charity works I've been supporting over the past decades.

So, thank you so much for giving all my novels a try, cause you all have changed several lives of those less fortunate people who received the proceeds. Continue on voting, commenting, and reviewing!
