395 Chapter 395: This Our Home

Nathalia was stunned. "What, baby?"

"Nathalia, don't you know you are pregnant? You can't treat your body like this, or the baby will get upset." Sophie said gently. She herself was very surprised to hear the news, thinking that Nathalia was the same age as her, but she was already married, and now she would be a mother soon!

Nathalia tried to clear her mind to let the news sink in. How is it possible? I didn't feel anything abnormal. Wait, my appetite and taste have been a bit unusual lately, and I feel tired more often than usual. Is this why?

"Can you call the doctor for me, please? I shall speak to him."

The doctor arrived in just a few minutes. He was a family physician especially hired to work for the Davidson family. Curt had been very thoughtful and had requested the doctor to come along when they set out to the rescue trip.

The doctor walked in with a smile, "Congratulations, Mrs. Nathalia Davidson. You will be a mother soon."

Is this fortune in misfortune? Nathalia wondered. She found it difficult to believe still. "Are you sure, doctor?"

"Yes. It's been about eight weeks. I suggest Mrs. Nathalia Davidson take good care of your body as there's the danger of pregnancy loss..." If it was someone else, they could have already lost the baby under such circumstances. She's been a strong girl.

Nathalia was startled to hear so, and subconsciously, she put her hands on her belly as if to protect the baby.

The doctor felt a bit apologetic but thought he had better let Nathalia know the real situation. "You haven't been eating these days properly. The baby needs nutrition. I do suggest that you go home and rest. The baby needs it." It's the grandchild of Curt Davidson. It's meant to be born with a silver spoon in its mouth.

Sophie held Nathalia's hand and said gently, "Nathalia, please listen to the doctor. You are not alone now. You have to take care of the baby. It's you and Spencer's baby. It's perhaps a boy, a boy that looks like Spencer..."

Nathalia did feel that it was a blessing comfort. It had arrived probably at the best time. She stroked her tummy gently, trying to calm her mind and think properly. Spencer has always wanted a baby, so have I. She recalled the nights when she slept in his arms after their passionate lovemaking and how they would talk about the future, their baby.

But why now? Spencer, do you know that I have your baby now. You have to come home. Come back to us. You want a lovely girl while I would prefer a smart boy just like you. You would be so happy to know. I wish you were here with me! I want to tell you!

Sadness filled the room. Sophie herself was all tears, but she still tried to comfort Nathalia. "Nathalia, it's good news. You know, the baby is your angel. It has come to support you."

Reminded of the baby again, Nathalia stopped crying and said to Sophie, "Can I have something to eat please?" She wanted to be strong again for their baby.

Nathalia passed her the lunch box and watched her eat slowly. It was obvious that she was struggling a bit, but she finished the food eventually.

She looked much calmer and better after food and crying. Sophie felt like crying again, proud of Nathalia's strength. She has such a strong mind. As long as you shed some light on her, she will glow the brightest. With just a little bit of hope, she will live life to the fullest. This is Nathalia, never defeated in difficult times.

Curt had been watching by the door. He felt much relieved. As soon as Nathalia finished the food, he spoke gently, yet with encouragement and determination, "Nathalia, let's go back to Miami. It's better for you and the baby. Spencer will be very proud of you."

"Ok. I will go home. But you have to promise me..." Tears welled up her eyes again as she thought that she would be far away from Spencer.

Curt knew what Nathalia was going to say. "I promise you that I make sure to have someone in charge here and report to you daily. Let's go home."

Nathalia nodded.

They had come with determination and hope, and now they were leaving with despair.

Nathalia took another look at the vast water that seemed to be of infinite depth and sent out a prayer.

When they got back to Miami, Nathalia stayed at the apartment where Spencer and she lived in. Everything was so familiar yet somehow strange, like something was missing.

Whenever she closed her eyes, she could see his face behind her eyelids, so clearly that she could look into his eyes; so clearly that she felt like she could extend her hand out and touch his face.

Lisa came out from the kitchen to see Nathalia smiling at a photo of Spencer and herself. She felt a sudden pain in her heart, wondering how much she must miss her husband.

Lisa had tried to persuade Nathalia to stay at her home, but Nathalia only smiled at her, knowing that Lisa would understand that she wanted to stay where there were traces of memories of Spencer. This is our home, the home for Spencer, our baby, and myself.

Of course, the memories brought pain as well, for they were also a screaming reminder that Spencer was not here.

Lisa placed the tray of dishes down on the table and said gently, "Dinner's ready, Nathalia. I hope you and the baby are hungry." She smiled with tears in her eyes. How she wished she could wrap Nathalia up with all the love she had.
