Chapter 106 - Tell Us About the Route

Ruan Jin's eyes quivered as he hesitated to answer. Then again, they had a recording, evidence that someone else was having an intelligent conversation with him. Moreover, it wouldn't put him in the place of murder.

"Her name is Ling. She's a ghost..."

Detective Hung then frowned. He only shook his head. "Show me your phone. You could be talking to someone—"

The flickering lights grew worse. They would be submerged in darkness for a few seconds before the lights would turn back on. The two detectives flinched as the light changed its pace.

When Detective Hung was about to speak with Ruan Jin again, the surroundings grew pitch black. Only the light from his phone would light up Ruan Jin's and his faces…

And that woman's who sat on Ruan Jin's l.a.p.

"Who the—?!" Detective Hung flinched back while the other detective got to his feet.

The light had gone back, and Ruan Jin only looked at where they were staring at. He was too terrified to realize that Ye Ling showed up on his l.a.p. Not finding anything, he only looked at the two grown men again.

Black.

Ye Ling showed up again, and her watery eyes smiled along with her lips. Her complexion was grayish, and she was wearing a blood-speckled red dress. It was not her normal garments when simply accompanying Ruan Jin.

Light.

The other detective went for the door and tried to open it. However, it was locked and wouldn't budge. Detective Hung only shifted in his seat and had his eyes flickered at what he just saw.

Black.

Ye Ling giggled again and spoke with the same voice she would use. However, it sounded differently to those who were not exposed to spiritual power. "Good afternoon, detectives. I heard you need my testimony?"

"What on earth?!" Now, even Detective Hung was shocked, shooting up to his feet.

"I'm actually surprised you had me recorded, but that's another piece of evidence you have to prove that we do live in that dorm." Ye Ling chuckled. "Please sit down, detectives. I know this would feel like a trance-like experience, but trust me. It's all real.

"You can't catch who or whatever did this to the girls, but you need to find who were with them by then. This time, prove that you can actually hold someone responsible at least.

"Those girls could've been alive if they called for help immediately."

The sun had barely gone down the horizon when Mian Tianyu received the confirmation of their plans for tomorrow. They would be cleansing Ting University as per the school's request—a request that was heavily influenced by one of the school's biggest donors.

Since it was really Li Feng's idea, Mian Tianyu didn't want to waste time. Perhaps, at least, he was trying to clean up the mess Guangru—the spirit he failed to keep sealed—had made.

After receiving the call, he went to find Li Feng. He wanted to know if the young man would be coming with them for tomorrow. He was as if forgetting the fact that Li Feng was reportedly dead to the public.

It's just that… no matter who Mian Tianyu took with him, the school wouldn't say anything about it. Else, it would be the Li family who would be speaking with them instead.

Moreover, Li Feng was familiar with the school and could tell him a thing or two about the rumored spirits in the house, especially the ones that could be involved in the latest murder. Mian Tianyu knew he had to know what to expect in a school thought to be infected by a demon's miasma.

He was thinking of important things when he saw Li Feng, but his thoughts all vanished as he took more steps towards them.

Li Feng was on the couch, lazily watching the TV... while Li Yunru was sleeping on top of him. The two looked more like a couple in their own house rather than cousins that were living in their mothers' family house.

Well, it was no secret to them that Li Yunru liked Li Feng so badly. Moreover, wasn't Li Feng always almost-dead these past days? Perhaps, she was just acting like a dog that feared losing her master for real.

Still... acting like this in a conservative setting...

"Feng'er." Mian Tianyu cleared his throat.

"Oh, shit," Li Feng whispered the first two words, but he was still clearly heard, "Grandfather!"

He would get up properly, but Li Yunru was deep asleep. Moving her recklessly would awaken a devil Li Feng would rather not see.

"It's fine." Mian Tianyu waved his hand. "Are you going with us tomorrow? Xiao Jun can map the school and piece together rumors from the Internet, but it would be nice to hear it from a student himself."

"...I don't think I should." Li Feng sighed, remembering how Ting threw him—their recognized most outstanding student from the Film and TV Production department—under the bus without even sufficient evidence that he was responsible for the murder of his bestfriend Jiang Hou.

"Hm, I under—"

Ring! Li Feng's phone on the center table rang out, and Mian Tianyu picked it up for him. Since it came from a blocked number, Mian Tianyu answered it himself.

If that was another death threat from the useless young masters, the grandfather would ask the son-in-law to deal with them as soon as he recovered from the surgery.

The voice that came from the caller was from a professional male... a detective to be exact. "Hello, this is Detective Hung from City B Police. Can I speak with Li Feng?"

"This is his grandfather. What do you need from my grandson?" Mian Tianyu almost snorted. These people think they could just call Li Feng after the blunder they did that caused Li Feng's reputation to plummet and be stained forever.

"I just need him to come down the station for a few questions. Can he go tonight?"

"I will not let him go on his own. I will be with him in the room." Mian Tianyu demanded.

"Okay, that's not a problem for us."

After bidding goodbye, the call ended. Mian Tianyu then looked at Li Feng and at Li Yunru who was awakened by the ringing phone. "Hurry and be decent. A detective from the station wants you to see him. Don't worry, this time, they won't be able to wrongly pin things on you."

Li Feng's brows raised as he had no idea why they wanted to speak with him again. However, he would at least be riding his own car when he got there—not in a mobile, with cuffs on his wrists. "Thank you, Grandfather."

Arriving at the station ten minutes later, Li Feng saw the lone man waiting at the reception area. Ruan Jin lifted his eyes and scratched his head. "Dude, if I know everything, I wouldn't have to drag you into this. I'm not trying to make it sound like you're involved again."

Li Feng shook his head. "You're not supposed to be talking to me about this. Don't worry about it; we both know how desperate these people get sometimes."

A police officer then came and walked Li Feng and Mian Tianyu towards the interrogation room. Li Yunru didn't enter with them and chose to sit next to Ruan Jin. When the males were gone, she then grinned at the man. "Hey, hey, is this about Ting?"

"Yeah, I tried, alright."

"I wonder what they needed from him exactly."

Inside the interrogation room, Hung Guangjian entered along with another detective. He had yet to recover from the shock of seeing Ye Ling and had no video proof that she was there. They only had a vague shadow sitting on Ruan Jin the entire time Ye Ling was talking.

Now, he was facing Li Feng again, the man reportedly dead but was very much alive. Somehow, the questions towards him were a lot closer to reality than asking about ghosts or whatnot—despite his circ.u.mstances.

"You must have seen Ruan Jin outside. Did he tell you anything about why we need you here?"

"Not really. Only that there are things that he didn't know that I should."

"Okay, it's about Ting." Hung Guangjian placed the same line-up of the girls on the table. "Do you recognize any of them?"

Li Feng took a look, but he seemed to freeze a little. He then picked up the photo of the girl in a pink shirt. "I only know the others are students from the Journalism department, but this one... she's Mo Ruyi. She's the girlfriend of one of my peers."

Hung Guangjian nodded, confirming what Ruan Jian had said earlier. He then eyed the student for a while before he asked, "Someone had told us that you and your friends could enter the girl's dorm whenever you wanted. Is that true?"

Mian Tianyu frowned while Li Feng twitched. He then chuckled as if a little embarrassed. "It's not that we can do that whenever we want, but yes, we can enter the girl's dorm."

"And what do you do there?"

"...can I know how this is related to anything?"

Huang Guangjian took out the same photos Ruan Jin picked out from the folder earlier. "We have reasons to believe that they were not alone when the deaths happened. Tell me, what are you doing every time you come inside, and how are you not punished?"

Li Feng stared at the photos, and he somewhat shuddered. He had been a shaman for a while, and he had never seen such a gruesome scene before. He placed the photos back.

"We sleep with the girls."

The eyes of the grandfather flew at Li Feng's face, but the grandson couldn't look in his direction. That was a fun secret, not-so-secret after all. However, the older males looked down at Li Feng like he was some kind of a petty thief.

Li Feng then sighed. "We don't go all at once. Most of the time, I just go with Jiang Hou and have fun with the girls in just one dorm. I don't do it as often as the others did." He then looked down at the photo of the murder scene.

For some reason, he was starting to get angry.

"Do you have proof that any of them escaped when this happened?" Li Feng didn't bring his gaze at the detective. If he was there, would he be able to save these girls?

If people would believe Li Feng, the only reason why he would engage in things like those was that to keep a feel of the girl's dorm. He couldn't borrow the kitchen in the middle of the night, and this was the only method that wouldn't raise suspicion. However, he grew disgusted as much as Jiang Hou did.

Sometimes, he actually just played board games with the girls after one round.

"We did have enough." Hung Guangjian hummed. "So... can you tell us about the route?"
