Chapter 111 - Biting More than I can Chew

It was a perfectly quiet morning in the asylum, but Chen Anna instinctively opened her eyes despite the absence of the sun. It was around the time that the ghost baby would be crying to her. It would feed on her blood, and she had no choice but to give it some. Else, it would take more than her blood.

Chen Anna sat up from her bed and used her hand to comb her hair. A small smile was on her lips as she continued to use her fingers as a comb.

It was the second morning that she woke up without the baby. Yesterday, she was still in denial that it had indeed left her alone. However, today, she was so confident that she had recovered. There was no more ghost baby, and she would be heading home soon.

As long as Liu Xiaodan remained true to his promise to kill the ghost baby, she would be secretly rooting for him.

It's just that…

Her pacified face contorted into an ugly form as the howling baby resounded all throughout the floor. She was terrified and frozen, not even able to move from her seat on the bed. Her entire body shivered from the sound, and she knew that the ghost baby had returned.

Whether it came for her or for Liu Xiaodan, she didn't know. All she knew was that someone… was going to die regardless.

It was the same from Liu Xiaodan. He knew that the ghost baby wouldn't be back if she wasn't on her way to kill someone. However, she actually chose to battle with a friend by her side. It seemed that the one inside Meng Guo's body called for help and agreed to attack along with the swaddled entity.

"Argh! No! No! You have to run!" Meng Guo cried so loud that the other patients were disturbed. She then pushed Yun He and Six off of her and tried to run away, but her direction was where Liu Xiaodan was facing. "They're going to kill you! Big Brother! It's better for us to just die now!"

She grabbed his arm and tried to pull him with her. She was planning to crash through the glass barrier and die from the height. Then again, that wasn't actually her… it was the ghosts inside her. They thought that Liu Xiaodan would be very shaken… facing a greater ghost in its full glory.

They would be watching him die any other way as well.

"Stay here. It won't be long." Liu Xiaodan was indeed scared as Guangru didn't even bother to engage with the swaddled thing. Then again, he realized that it could be because of the so-called kings of the palace that he mentioned before.

"Guangru, I might have to starve you this time..." The man only chuckled bitterly.

Pull! Mango kept on pulling, but she couldn't even move anything else but his arm. Liu Xiaodan was planted on the floor, eyes stuck at the empty hallway. Mango then realized that it was no use. She only retreated and curled down, slowly giving enough despair to let the twin spirits materialize on her back.

Yun He and Six only watched at the strange movements on Mango's back. The guard then went to the gate to slam at the emergency button. However, no matter how much force he used to push it, the button wouldn't even get pressed. He cursed as he even used his gun to pound on the button.

Screams had come from those who were aware of the ghosts. They tried going outside their room in fear, but they couldn't even open the doors. Yun He then looked at Chen Anna's door, but she wasn't screaming while trying to escape. Actually, she was on her bed, eyes drenching her c.h.e.s.t and l.a.p like waterfalls.

"X-Xiaodan!" Yun He called out to the man in front. "What's happening?"

"Nurse Yun, hide inside my room." Liu Xiaodan just glanced over his shoulder.

When he did so, he realized that the spirits were trying to materialize on Mango's back. He turned and stared at them, thinking of how he could help Meng Guo… but another howl from the swaddled baby came.

This time, the floor shook and stomping came from the deeper part of the hallway. From the available space, a gigantic baby with smoking black eyes came crying out. The baby could barely fit in the hallway, but it was like a worm wriggling just to inch closer and closer toward him.

The baby only imitated the basic shape of a human offspring, but its face was very different. The mouth was just a hollow hole with a well of teeth inside. It continued to cry out, driving everyone insane from its noise. Even Liu Xiaodan's overs.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e ears were ringing from its cries.

"Big… Brother..." Meng Guo called out as she fell to the ground, two black things ripping through the back of her dress and baring their huge mouths at Liu Xiaodan. They were like two silhouettes with no arms and legs… only huge mouths with strange teeth.

"These things… could get these strong…?" Liu Xiaodan eyed both things alternatingly, bewildered by the suffocating negative energy oozing from both greater ghosts. He would say he had been naive in challenging them, but he knew he could fight them if he tried.

Roar!

Liu Xiaodan and Yun He twitched when they heard a strange roar from inside Liu Xiaodan's room. Old Xiong suddenly came running from inside and went to hug Meng Guo with its colossal arms. What made the males gasp was that the bear's mouth suddenly ripped open… and went to chomp down.

Old Xiong swallowed Meng Guo from head to waist. The two spirits screamed in pain as the bear continued to slurp, Meng Guo screaming as well as she kicked out her legs. The twin spirits bit into Old Xiong's head, but they were not doing a lot of damage.

"O-Old Xiong, please be careful with her!" The father pleaded.

Liu Xioadan didn't know that this bear wouldn't just slap bitches with its paws. It was actually capable of ripping a mouth in its host and sipping on other ghosts' materialization… even from their very own host as well.

"Death!" The baby cried out as it inevitably had Liu Xiaodan within its reach. When its hand reached out to grab Liu Xiaodan, the father turned to it and scratched heavily on his arm. His blood flowed out and carried a smoke miasma straight to the baby's face.

A symphony of cries echoed all over the place, and Yun He clamped his hands on his ears just like he used to do when he was a little child. He had never experienced hauntings before, and his first few ones were already enough to make his heart stop. It didn't help that it seemed to be a fight between them all.

Six was on the floor, only watching the scenes unfold. He had a sliver of capability to see the paranormal, but he was tough enough not to be swayed by them. Now that he was witnessing such a very deathly haunting, he just hugged his big gun in fear.

"Captain was right… experiments are the scariest among them all. Captain… Captain..." he murmured as he tried to call in the situation. However, nothing but static was going through.

"King!" The two spirits started to call out as they were being devoured by two newcomers. The bear had already drained three-fourths of the twin ghosts while the baby couldn't fight back the miasma that was slowly eating up its face. No matter how much the baby wiped the miasma off, it never stopped.

Liu Xiaodan was only watching as he secretly marveled at the kind of power Guangru had. It wasn't even the heights of the child's power, and yet he could easily devour a greater ghost. However, he had no idea how much strength he would need if ever the king would indeed come.

Pang! Liu Xiaodan suddenly felt like something was oozing inside him. Negative energy was surging from somewhere as if he was devouring something. It didn't come from Old Xiong as Liu Xiaodan saw that the bear had been feeding for a long time already.

The father frowned and eyed the crying baby. He extended his hand and took a deep breath. The miasma exploded on its spot and went to devour the baby faster. The painful cries of the baby were hurting everyone else, but Liu Xiaodan now stood unaffected.

"If you continue to harm my worshiper, you would be only asking me to kill you."

A voice echoed in Liu Xiaodan's head, but he wasn't fazed by it. The only thing he couldn't take was the suffocation that came from it. It was as if he was getting glared at by Guangru before behind. Liu Xiaodan clawed at his c.h.e.s.t as he fought against the pressure.

He then hissed. "Then, make them leave."

The king then chuckled. "You think you can demand something from me? How ridiculous. So what if you have a starving demon at your side? His power could only scratch me at best. Just because you can easily kill one of my worshipers doesn't mean that you can harm me."

Liu Xiaodan smirked despite the pain. "Then, why are you warning me if you can just go and kill me?"

"How insolent of you. You really wanted to die? Then, wait for your turn."

Roar! A roar suddenly came from Old Xiong, and that made Liu Xiaodan panic. He turned in Old Xiong's direction and saw how the bear seemingly tore at some places. It's just that if Liu Xiaodan went to help, the baby would be able to attack.

However…

The entire floor was then submerged in cold temperature. Even Liu Xiaodan was frozen by this feeling. Before he knew it, the baby screamed so loudly. Its body kept on exploding at places while wooden vines poke out of its skin.

"King!" The baby cried, but a voice followed… one that came like a deep bellow echoing from a trench in a hollow bark.

"Suffer. Your king had already forsaken you."

It was the first time that he had felt this wave of aura that could send someone into cardiac arrest. However, he smiled.

"Hehe," Liu Xiaodan murmured with his lips curled, "I'm sorry for biting more than I can chew, Guangru."
