Chapter 137 - Then, There was You

It wasn't farfetched that there would be one day when Yun He would be coming clean to a patient about the lies he had to feed them. He had a feeling that Min Ye was getting closer to the truth, but he didn't think Liu Xiaodan would dare to sneak inside the laboratory so brazenly. His access code was even recorded to be used.

Agreed to have experiments done to them? Yun He didn't have the choice… or the courage to choose otherwise.

Yun He only smiled a little. "I used to think that I had the right to know since I handle those patients and those who they leave behind on our floor. Answers are hard to find in a mind that didn't know any. I used to think that if I knew, it would be easier to help. It's just that… when I found out, I couldn't even bring myself to expose them.

"I saw what those things hidden in the Treatment Hall could do… they could eat humans alive and play with the dead bodies. Abaddon was specifically made to be fed with the living. The big shots wouldn't mind losing a nurse or two either." Yun He rubbed his nape. "Let's just say… I was scared to be fed to a monster like that.

"The maze in the Treatment Hall was designed to trap both humans and ghosts. Going through walls was the only surefire way to get out without instructions. If I was thrown here to be eaten, I could only run or cry waiting." Yun He pursed his lips before sighing. "My compassion was eaten by fear, and I've become despicable.

"I didn't agree, but I couldn't say no either."

Liu Xiaodan only looked at the screen, the folders and files closing altogether. Every time a folder closed, the light in his eyes would get dimmer. It was as if he was watching people die in front of him. Soon, the screen turned off and morphed into a black mirror that showed Liu Xiaodan's somber look.

He had no idea that Cherry Med was working on something so inhuman and yet hard to prove to the media and the law. The patients brought to them would never be able to leave, especially those who were forced into the paranormal. There was no way anyone could go home. Not Anna, not Meng Guo… not him.

His voice then sounded out softly: "Will the treatments resume?"

"They will. In fact, tomorrow, I would have to walk Ye to his… well, death would be the normal word I would say."

"What changed?"

"You." Yun He eyed Liu Xiaodan who looked over his shoulder. "Xiaodan, Project Red Justice only has one goal… and that is to produce a bioweapon that would kill anything… man or machine. Higher offices ventured into the industry of occultism and sought help to develop things like these. They figured that the recorded 'ghosts' from the Mian family and the Qiao family were proof that such a thing could exist.

"They had used a lot of strange tactics just to produce the bitter results that they had now. Right now, they're nowhere near something that would mindlessly listen to them… so they wanted something they could lure with food. These… ghost kings as they were called… seemed to fit the bill just fine. Then… there was you.

"A human who wielded the power of these ghosts. I have no idea how you came to be, but I'm being asked to compare you to someone from the old project they did fifty years back. Of course, just in terms of physicality, and not power. I guess they had been into this for a very long while… but someone else made a breakthrough?"

Liu Xiaodan only smiled bitterly. "You didn't test for DNA?"

Yun He looked up at him, seemingly aware that Liu Xiaodan had something to say about it. "It's still processing, but I think you have an answer for me. You have this very long face when you were looking at her records."

"…Wu Qianqian is my mother. How did you get a blood sample from her?"

"Mother…" Yun He didn't seem to be shocked. More likely, he was sent into a trance as if he was analyzing something very deeply. However, before Liu Xiaodan could call him out, Yun He flicked his gaze back to Liu Xiaodan's face. "The sample arrived with a lot of things from one of the sponsors.

"But identifying the source for sure is above my access grade. For now, they only needed me to do some blood work and make sure you'd be fine and mentally sound. Like a soldier before a battle, I think…"

Liu Xiaodan stared at Yun He and seemed to consider everything that he had said. Liu Xiaodan couldn't be very sure that Yun He wasn't lying even if his tone and breathing told the horseman that he was telling the truth. Moreover, Yun He's superiors could be lying to the nurse as well.

In the end, Liu Xiaodan only smiled at the nurse. "Nurse Yun, you would be trapped here, right? Why did you come to get me unaided?"

Yun He shook his head. "I went to visit Wuji when my pager went off from the alert. No matter where I went, I would be spending hours here until someone else takes my post next to Wuji. For some reason, the moment you admit to yourself that you're not trying to leave this place…

"The differences in hallways became easier to find."

Liu Xiaodan only nodded before he summoned the lamp to his hand. The lights went off, and the next thing Yun He knew was that he was inside Zhang Wuji's room. Zhang Wuji was sound asleep, and nothing was wrong with his signs. However, Liu Xiaodan and Guangru were not around.

Yun He blinked and only shook his head. The more questions he had, the more frustrated he became. Since it wasn't something he would understand, he should just leave it to Liu Xiaodan as long as the patient wouldn't hurt himself. However, something still weighed down in Yun He's heart.

"If Wu Qianqian is his mother… won't that make Mr. Wu his grandfather?"

Liu Xiaodan got back to their room using the lamp. Guangru only giggled as he held onto his father while Liu Xiaodan stood in his room. However, he didn't realize that another entity was waiting for him inside.

A smile came from the Mother's lips. "Hello, Xiaodan… did you have fun using the lamp that you stole?"
