Chapter 151 - Turning into One of Them

Guangru took a step back and even flattened his back against the wall. He was an ancient demon whose power had reached a peak that most existences couldn't even begin to fathom. However, he had never feared someone like this. His entire child body trembled, and tears came out of his eyes. Something was wrong… something was very wrong with his Baba.

The body that walked into the beam of Two's flashlight sizzled at the formation it cast. However, blood had covered his entirety as if he was human-shaped blood dragging his feet across the floor. There were no eyes or face, but there was a gaping mouth that moved like he was breathing through it.

Behind him floated a body of a girl. Her head was hanging down, and her arms black and very long. They began to retract back to the girl's body, but the girl didn't make any reaction. Even the nurse chewing the soldier moved strangely and mechanically as if something was just controlling its body. The posture was wrong, but she just kept on chewing… and chewing…

Three couldn't help but aim at Liu Xiaodan with her rifle. "G-Get away! What are you?! You can't be still alive!" She started firing from where she stood, soon joined by One. However, it didn't matter how much they shoot at him, his body just wobbled from the impact. Blood would splatter, but they could crawl back to his feet.

"Guangru… Guangru, where are you?" Liu Xiaodan called out, ignoring the two that were firing at him. He didn't move his own arm, but the girl's arm swatted the two soldiers to the wall. The man then kneeled down and stretched his arms out. "Guangru… are you still there?"

However, there was only silence. No one moved towards him; neither did something hugged him from behind. His hands then trembled before he lifted them to his eye level, straightening his back. "What was that grenade? Did you… did you just blow up my child?"

The girl's hands stretched out and grabbed the heads of the two soldiers. Each was big enough to effortlessly crush the heads, but the hands only pulled on them instead. Liu Xiaodan turned his head to the side where they were. "I really don't want to do this, but I don't want to keep people around me… people who just keep on hurting me and… Guangru… and everyone I..."

He held onto his face. "Everyone… everyone…?"

Guangru twitched as he felt something else was churning inside that blood person. He quickly ran to his side and used his wooden vines to circle around the blood. "Baba, down here."

"Guangru?" Liu Xiaodan was quickly pulled out of his trance before reaching down. "I can't see you. I can't see anything… I just feel it… I just feel them..."

"It's okay. I'm right here. No need to be scared." Guangru climbed his vines and held onto Liu Xiaodan's face. Using his healing ability and the essences of those the child killed earlier, he started repairing the body of his baba. Unlike what Three had thought, the only destroyed part of Liu Xiaodan's body was his back. However, that meant that the majority of his organs were crushed by the grenade.

Liu Xiaodan finally felt like his eyes were back, and he turned to his side to see the child who climbed a vine ladder for him. He carried Guangru into his arms again before eyeing at Three and One. His sullen gaze was not apparent as the grenade broke the red lights in the hallway. All they could see was darkness… and that dim glint coming from Liu Xiaodan's eyes.

Guangru clung onto his baba and glared at them. "Baba, I might have to harvest them. They… will just keep on doing it. Also, there are things I want to know..."

Upon hearing no answer from the father, the child blinked. Vines suddenly shot out of the soldiers' abdomens and went inside their mouths. They started struggling, but their bodies only limped before the vines retracted. The bodies dropped to the ground, blood flowing out of their mouths.

The child then frowned. "Baba, some person known to them as Mr. Wu wants to restrain you. It seems that they are warned that you… have active blood. I wonder what that meant."

"Mr. Wu? Let's find Dr. Fan. I doubt she wouldn't be able to answer anything for me." Liu Xiaodan only hummed before walking off ahead. He paused next to the crushed body of Captain, and his cold eyes descended on the body. It was easy to tell that the soldier was still alive, albeit trying to feign his death.

"Should I see if he knows more?"

"Hm..." Liu Xiaodan only smiled. "He now does."

He just went past Captain and continued his walk through the darkened hallways of the Treatment Hall. Behind him continued to float the girl with long hands, and to his left side walked the wobbling big-headed nurse. Old Doctor hid earlier out of fear, but he soon joined them by walking at Liu Xiaodan's right side.

Under the warning and haunting glare of the red emergency lights, a group of five entities continued their march—none of them seemingly human anymore.

The soft drizzle coming from the water can was the only sound in Chuan Nayi's ears. She had also felt that stinging feeling, but she managed to remain calm. It was because the child didn't commit a killing spree right after. As long as Guangru was satisfied, it only meant that his baba must be safe. That surely meant that Liu Xiaodan didn't meet an accident.

Footsteps came from behind her, and Jiang Yanyu walked behind her daughter. She cleared her throat. "You're willing to participate in the red project? Are you sure you're going to be fine? I mean, you can die there."

"...perhaps… but I have a feeling that I'm not going to be sacrificial at least." Chuan Nayi stopped watering her mother's plants and turned her head to her mother. "I have a feeling that I was only accepted despite my condition… because I am close to Xiaodan."

"...I figured you'd know." Jiang Yanyu sighed before walking to get in front of her daughter. She sat on the stone walls of the flowerbed. "Be careful. They will test everything against Liu Xiaodan. Project Red Justice is a military venture so there's no point in being angry at the scientists. Moreover, only the Qiao family is important to them. There's also something about this Wu Zhong. He seems to be one of the main theorists of Red Justice."

Chuan Nayi's eyes then dimmed. Her project name wasn't even Red Justice, but she was now sure that they indeed want Liu Xiaodan in particular. "Red Justice, huh. When I met Xiaodan, I never thought his life would be this complicated in the future. Mother, what do you think happens to a dybbuk when he gets born?"

A hum came from Jiang Yanyu. "Demons can never be human, but humans can certainly turn into one of them."
