Chapter 189 - The Monster You're Trying to Set Free

"Xiaodan's project?" Chuan Nayi's eyes widened some more as she slowly turned towards the man. Before she spoke again, she managed to take a deep breath and calm down. "Is this Red Justice? How am I supposed to help him with anything?"

"Red Justice? No, Red Justice is much inferior and would make use of rather more inferior test subjects. However, Xiaodan is… what can I say, suited for something way more terrifying." The man smiled at her. "Nayi, what do you know about the Qiao family? Do you know how they keep being the most powerful shaman family?"

"Qiao? I only know them as a family who wanted Xiaodan for the child. It seems like his abilities had become more sparkling than the child's so they wanted him as well." Chuan Nayi frowned. "Mr. Wu, does this project of his related to why the Qiao family wanted him so much?"

The man only stroked at his chin. "Mr. Wu? How formal. Nayi, I think you should be calling me Grandpa or something more inclusive. Xiaodan is, after all, born to my only daughter."

Chuan Nayi twitched again, but that revelation made her a bit angry. "You're Xiaodan's grandfather? And you're forcing him to turn into a monster? I don't think you deserve being called Grandpa by anyone."

"Don't say that. I took control of the project because of him." Wu Zhong only chuckled as if he wasn't offended at all. "If I leave this entirely to Dr. Fan, she would have dissected Xiaodan like those others in Red Justice. Heheh, I'm quite better than the rest who could have been handling this. I even forced them to reopen Red Scales to take their attention away from him. I am being good to my grandson."

Chuan Nayi clutched at her skirt. "If you're really being good to him, you will release him and everyone else."

"Oh, you think so?" Wu Zhong hummed. "With the Qiao Family Head aching to own Project Hades for himself, I don't think it's wise to let Xiaodan be out there, unaware of his capabilities.

"Moreover, the Ren family is finally making a move to trash other families so they could stand up against the Qiao family and confuse the poor trophy of a walking underworld. The Li family and the Mian family are also joining the fray… along with other big families who wanted to take this chance for revenge.

"With the big families gutting themselves for a chance to acquire him and use him the way he's designed to be, should I just be releasing him into the world again?"

The mother fell silent for a while. She couldn't say anything about things that she didn't know about… especially when Ren Shanyue already said something connected to these. The treacherous-looking woman said that she had something to deal with that only she could do… as the Ren family princess. Did it mean that this was her way of owning Liu Xiaodan while Qiao Shan is forcing herself to be important to the man?

As for her, could she just be confident in being the child's mother? What if Guangru chose someone else along the way and for more benefits? At the thought, she shuddered. Chuan Nayi wasn't a daring woman, but she had felt the loss brought upon by giving Liu Xiaodan up. If she could manage, she would not stop holding onto him now.

Her eyes then lifted and stared at Wu Zhong's drinking image. "What should I do first? I don't think I can help him house the spirits in his body."

"That's easy. All you have to do..." Wu Zhong flashed a rather menacing grin… "...is stay here with me, Nayi. Your presence itself… is all I need."

The sound of flipping paper echoed in the room as Captain read through the files of the tagged participants. It seemed that most of them were only promising on paper, but their abilities actually fell short. However, this Li Feng, Chuan Nayi, Qiao Shan, and Ruan Jin… they were all pulled out to be distributed into other projects that were more important than Red Scales. There was no doubt that Wu Zhong found places for them somewhere.

However, they were yet to put Li Feng somewhere else at the moment. Actually, members of the Mian family were barred from entering this facility. It's just that Wu Zhong found it interesting… Mian Qingtao and Li Feng came to this place for different reasons, and yet their goals were only helpful to the Qiao family's visions.

Captain then closed the files and sighed. After being tasked to interrogate that woman for formalities, he was to do the same for the detained man. This time, he was allowed to be violent.

Then again, he didn't wish to be violent to someone reportedly summoning Liu Xiaodan to places. Captain was scared that Liu Xiaodan would finally kill everyone in the facility should Captain harm his cousin, Li Feng.

"Captain, they're coming." Six was sitting in the interrogation booth with his captain. However, instead of being fully covered in his tactical gear, he only wore the vests and pads. His head was not inside a helmet, and so his rather youthful and yet long face was exposed for Captain to see. It's not every day that he could see his men—whom he treated as his own children—outside their uniform.

"...aren't you afraid of their verdict today, Qingtao?" Captain addressed Six with his real name, but the younger male only sighed before shaking his head. "Finding a core member of the Mian family here would put you in a bad position. Even if you only send letters to your mother, they will discover the true nature of those letters."

Mian Qingtao only chuckled. "I was frustrated, Captain. I can't look for my sister no matter what I went through just to get here. Besides, Feng is… not calculative like the rest. He's a very innocent, pure-hearted person. A bit perverted and promiscuous at the side, but he's still a person who'd help me if he found a way."

He then looked up at his captain. "I just want my sister, Captain. Dead or alive, I just want to know what happened to her."

Captain didn't answer… but only because Five and Ten had taken Li Feng to the room. He then curtly shooed away the two before Five could say something about Mian Qingtao. Even if Li Feng was not tied to the table, he saw Mian Qingtao gave him a faint smile… while wiggling his fingers on those hands caught in a cuff to the table.

"Are you going to ask if we're spying for the Mian family?" Li Feng sat on the chair allotted for him. His hands were still cuffed behind him, but who said that simple cuffs like this could contain a shaman. He just didn't choose to escape right now because of Mian Qingtao.

"Not really. That's not for any of us to decide. I just want to speak with you about Liu Xiaodan..." Captain narrowed his eyes at the young master. "Do you have an idea… what kind of monster you're trying to set free?"
