Chapter 313 - The White One is Lanlu, The Black One is Shanhu

At this, Li Feng started to laugh. He then shot a hand to his mouth and covered his grin. Since he was the only one who found it funny, he had to receive everyone's looks. Li Feng cleared his throat and spoke again, "I think Shanhu cannot distinguish humans individually. She could only regard a certain family, and as long as a strong blood connection is present, she will regard them as the same person.

"She's a Fu dog of a temple. I think she was rather designed not to discriminate among the members of the priest's family that she should take care of." Li Feng then waved at her. "I think you need to speak with Xiaodan over there. He's the one who dove into your mind earlier. He has guardian friends so they can help you."

"...but he said son… isn't he too young?" Shanhu turned to face Liu Xiaodan who got up from his seat. She then turned to take a look at the ghost child who was pouting at her. "Is he the son? But that's not even a human child. He's not even a human spirit!"

"It's okay. He'll be one soon." Liu Xiaodan walked to them and picked up the two Fu dogs. He then turned to Mian Tianyu. "Master Mian, thanks for your help… but you said they won't be able to be full-fledged if they can't remember their oath?"

Mian Tianyu was actually thinking about the dive Li Feng mentioned. Then again, there was no time to do it right now. He only attended to Liu Xiaodan's question because this child was just as respectful as Mian Lengleng. No wonder Mian Tianni didn't feel as hostile as she used to when they spoke about him. He was reminding her of her sister that was taken away by the Qiao family.

He spoke, "Remembering the oaths is easy. It's living it that could be the challenge. They had failed their first assignment. They must find a new place to guard and a way to live their pledge." He then cleared his throat. "I have a suggestion I hope you won't say 'no' to, Xiaodan.

"We both know that the Qiao family has yet to settle the score within you. Neither did Wu Zhen like what Wu Zhong did by giving everything to you, Qianqian, and Nayi." He took a deep breath, his eyes looking past the young man and at the child at the side.

"Bring the Fu dogs home and let them protect Qianqian and your father. They are Fu dogs; they are born protectors of both humans and their homes. You already have two guardians with you, but I hope you still have space in your house for them. There is no such thing as too much protection."

Liu Xiaodan then looked down at the two. "Can you stop bullets?"

Shanhu lifted her brows, and then Lanlu huffed. "You don't seem to be popular enough to get shot at. If you think that we are only here to stop house robbery, then you're underestimating us! We are guardians of the yin and yang! Nothing will get past us! Bullets? Huh, even cannons cannot bring us down!"

"...I don't trust them, Master Mian. I don't think I should keep them—"

"We can't stop bullets, but we can use energy to push them out of the way. We can also send warnings to the humans inside the home if a disaster is coming." Shanhu looked up at the face of the young man. "I can see that there's deep-seated vengeance inside you, but it's not because you just wanted to destroy something. Hm, forget what this stupid Lanlu is saying. Let us be of your service."

Lanlu pouted and squirmed a little. "Are you sure? There's a demon in his house. In fact, it's standing right there! But… an elder responded to their call… I'm not even sure why he had come."

Shanhu huffed. "Then, you're seeing things wrongly. Just stick to the house, and leave the people to me."

A glance came from Liu Xiaodan. He wanted to know what the child looked like after hearing that the Fu dogs would be with them. Then again, Guangru only nodded at his father. It was as if he had thought of something that made him grin in excitement; either that, or it was Heima who told him something that would make the child happy. Heima was Guangru's guardian after all.

Blink. Wu Qianqian stared at the two tiny dogs that Liu Xiaodan presented to them. One was a pure black Pekingese that only had a flame-shaped patch of white fur on her c.h.e.s.t. The other was a white Pekingese with gold smudges on his cheeks.

She then took a look at Liu Xiaodan whose eyes were shining in anticipation. "I thought you'd rather have big sloppy dogs than tiny ones, Xiaodan."

"Hehe, my choice changed. Besides, these two strays were left on their own in the park. Nayi wanted to adopt them, and we don't think they're hard to house-break. I mean, Pekingese is hard to house-break but not these two in particular." He smiled at his mother.

"Ah, they're strays? They are expensive dogs, though." Wu Qianqian then smiled. "Do they have names already?"

"The white one is Lanlu, and the black one is Shanhu. I can't call them so plainly with Xiao Bai and Xiao Hei… or Xiao Hong, Xiao Lan. I hope the names are alright with you." Liu Xiaodan flashed a rather contagious grin, and so Wu Qian reciprocated the same intoxicating smile. She giggled, "Teal and Coral… that sounds very nice. Xiao Li, Xiao Li, look, Xiaodan brought toy dogs home."

Liu Li didn't even take a look as he flicked through the channels of the TV. "As long as they don't destroy anything in the house. Hm, call Matron Yuye and tell her to get someone to buy food and water bowls for them in the morning. Also, their food. Wait, shouldn't we get a vet to check on them?"

The mother and the son couldn't be fooled by the strange cold act the father was putting on. Liu Li just didn't want to be caught cooing at cute tiny dogs. After speaking with them for a few more seconds, Liu Xiaodan released the dogs at the main lobby.

"Remember, you are dogs here, okay? Please don't behave weirdly." Liu Xiaodan petted Lanlu in particular. This was his divine punishment for almost harming Liu Li. It was hard to bring home their statues so Liu Xiaodan only had Li Feng make collars to become the new bodies of the two Fu dogs. As for how it was a punishment, Lanlu was going to find out soon. For now, they were convinced to sleep in cozy rugs.

Driver Sheng pulled up at the Mian Residence. It was already past nine when they got home. Mian Tianyu led the group back inside to retire for the night. However, there were things that he constantly thought about.

Instead of sleeping, he had gone to the Altar Hall to light incense for those who had died on both occasions the dybbuk had run wild. "...am I wrong to not struggle against the demon?"
