Turn him into that?
Mian Tianyu and Liu Xiaodan didn't know if the master shaman had a hand in this transformation. Then again, as much as Mian Tianyu could blame himself for endangering Liu Xiaodan by failing to secure the ancient demon in its binds, Liu Xiaodan was so sure he didn't do anything. Mian Tianni would probably have more 'fault' in this, but the transcendent was steadfast in only naming one person responsible for this state.
Himself, Liu Xiaodan. No one else was responsible for it other than him.
That was why Liu Xiaodan just waved his hand. "Don't misunderstand, Detective. I do work with the Mian family because they know more about this industry and occultism in general. I was the one who realized everything that I have now. At first, it was just from saving myself from my own nightmares, but staying in Wangguan and Cherry Medical showed me that what I have… isn't inherently bad.
"It still boils down to how I use it. Right now, I wish to use it to protect people that I could against things that they cannot fight otherwise." Liu Xiaodan waved both hands. "I only came here because you guys rushed here. If I don't go with you, it will be the same as me feeding you to those things. My conscience can't handle that."
Of course, aside from his need to feed the friends, he could always behave like an honest hero. As for how much heroism he would go through, that could only depend on the circ.u.mstances. He could only walk to places and not fly from one province to another.
Whether all of that was bought by the detective or not, Liu Xiaodan could only hope it wouldn't lead to another arrest. However, from the way Huang Guangjian looked at him, he figured he was… in a very bad spot!
"...you're lucky you already served your sentence. Even if it's already just for a few days, you have gone through things that are enough for a lifetime." Hung Guangjian could only huff. There was no point in forcing a case against this man. Who knew how many had fallen by his hands in both places—and how many more would die if Liu Xiaodan was locked in some other place again?
It's just that… he didn't know what would happen if the Ren family found out about this.
The detective then cast a heavy glance at Mian Tianyu. "Mian Tianyu, please always remember that if something incredibly tragic happened and it's all Liu Xiaodan's fault, you will also be held liable for it. I will submit a report about this. Liu Xiaodan was supposed to be locked up in Cherry Medical for life. Now that he's out in the streets again, I might have to trouble you in looking after him since you actually allowed him to continue his ways."
Mian Tianyu was shocked. That was legal to do? Well, it was no secret that Liu Xiaodan was still supposed to be serving his time in Cherry Medical. However, since he was released by the institution, he should be free. It's just that… this might reopen the case. New court proceedings would ensue if the police forced it.
"If the court gives the Mian family to stand as the institution in charged of Liu Xiaodan's psychiatric treatment, then we will gladly take it up." Mian Tianyu suddenly thought of something, and the realization of it made him a lot more confident. "Liu Xiaodan's case was never ordinary. Let us experts handle it from here."
"...did I just sign up for another prison?" Liu Xiaodan murmured as he realized something as well. Now that the Mian family would have the legal right to discipline him, wouldn't that mean that they would have a stronger power in stopping him from killing off the Qiao shamans? Did that mean Li Feng would not be his senior but probation officer? No, no, he wanted to be free…
However, only a sigh came from Liu Xiaodan. No matter what, he would still be playing the rules of the Mian family after all. What was different from actually regarding them as his psychiatric institution? After thinking about it, he ended up sighing again.
Still, there was a silver lining in it. It would make his deals with the Mian family legally binding. That meant that he could be able to demand going from one place to another to find food for his friends… and make the Mian family suffer in putting up excuses to discourage the state take Liu Xiaodan off of their hands. Heheh, Tang Mingming's thoughts flowed out so subtly that Liu Xiaodan was shocked he thought of those.
In the end, there was a tacit understanding between the transcendent and the master shaman. None of them contested the arrangements offered by the police to resolve the problem of Liu Xiaodan getting detained perhaps again and again. As for the legal procedures, Kang Jun should be able to represent Mian Tianyu in things that didn't need his presence at all. A family stamp was given to Kang Jun after all.
…
In the Wu Family Estate…
Chuan Nayi heard about what happened to Hao Chengyi and Mian Lunsen. She was on the phone checking up on the secretary when Wu Qianqian and Liu Li had reached home. The woman welcomed them after hanging up and was very confused when Liu Xiaodan was not with them. Didn't they come to pick him up from the police station?
"Mom, did something happen?" Chuan Nayi asked as Wu Qianqian sat down on the couch with Shanhu on her l.a.p. The mother looked terrified, but she was hesitant to tell Liu Xiaodan's girlfriend what she just allowed her son to do. The young madam then turned to Liu Li. "Dad?"
"Xiaodan heard about another attack, same with the one last night." Liu Li sighed. "He went with the police to help out. I called Secretary Kang, and it seemed that Master Mian also went to lend a hand. I just hope that things are okay now."
"Which family is it tonight?"
"Xie family?" Liu Li wondered if he remembered the name correctly. It was because he felt like the family name was a little familiar.
At the mention of the name, Chuan Nayi's eyes darkened. Wasn't that the family from where Xie Canrong came from? Their young master had died, and they had also come after Li Feng for it—as if they knew that Li Feng should be the one he was meeting that night. They even had the audacity to put Chuan Nayi and Ruan Jin in the scene of his murder and turn them into culprits.
If Ren Shanyue didn't deal with them, they could have caused more trouble. It's just that… she didn't know how Ren Shanyue managed to make them shut up. Tonight, they were attacked by the Black March since they were still part of the big families in the city.
Chuan Nayi wouldn't be surprised if Liu Xiaodan comes home tomorrow and tells her Li Feng didn't help out.
