Chapter 66 - 66: Dj Meets His God!

"Nice to meet you!" Dj commented.

"Haha!" Jacob laughed.

"So. . . What type of Paladin are you wanting to be?" Jacob then asked.

"I want to be a Protection Paladin, that way I can protect my friends!" Dj said.

"Hmm. . . A Protection Paladin huh? Not bad. . . Alright, let's go over to the equipment area, and grab you a shield and a one handed weapon." Jacob then mentioned.

We all followed him over to the weapon area which wasn't too far from where we were standing. Dj then went over towards the shields to take a look at them. He completely ignored the small shields, and went towards something that was as big as he was. It almost looked like a Tower Shield from one of the anime I used to watch back on Earth. He picked one that was silver, with a bronze outline around the shield.

"Hmm. . . Not bad. . . Not bad. . ." Jacob muttered. "Alright, over here are the weapons. You can pick from any of the one handers. There are Axes, Maces, Swords, and Flails."

"Hmm. . . You do know what that type of Mace is for, correct?" He then asked Dj.

"Honestly, I don't. Would you mind explaining it to me?" Dj asked.

"Sure can. Ok, so that type of Mace is for doing Bludgeoning and Slashing type of damage. The one that has the spike at the end of it, is for Bludgeoning and Piercing/Ripping, and the last one is for Bludgeoning and Piercing only." Jacob explained.

"Oh ok, so I can knock an enemy upside his head, while also slashing his face open? Nice!" Dj commented.

". . ."

"Uh. . . Yep. . . Ok anyways. . . Let's go over to the Training Dummies, and show you how to attack it." Jacob told him.

"Alright." Dj said.

We walked over to the dummy, and Dj stood right in front of it.

"Alright, take your Tower Shield and hold it up. While also taking your Mace and holding it to your side." Jacob started explaining to Dj. "Next, take your Mace and swing it towards the dummy. Keep doing that for about ten minutes. Make sure to keep your shield off the ground too. That moment it touches the ground, you're done. You would be dead. If that happens, take a five minute break, then start over. Keep doing this until you can last the full ten minutes without letting it touch the ground."

Dj started wacking the dummy for a little bit, until his shield unfortunately touched the ground. He lasted maybe three minutes before it did. So he had to wait for the five minutes were up, then started wacking it. What was weird this time, was the fact that everytime the shield was about to touch the ground. He ended up keeping it afloat this time. He kept it in the air, without it touching the ground this time for the full ten minutes, but Jacob didn't tell him to stop. He just kept watching. Dj kept wacking the dummy for an additional six minutes until his shield finally touched the ground.

"Wow. . . That was hard. Did I make it that time Jacob?" Dj then asked after he took a breather.

"Nope. . ." He commented.

"Damn. . . Give me a moment, and I'll start it again." Dj mentioned.

"You actually held it for 16 minutes. . ." Jacob commented.

"Alright, I'll go ahe. . . What!" Dj started to say something then he exclaimed.

"Yep. . . You only had to restart one time. . . Which is quite amazing in itself, but you went further and held on for six extra minutes. I'm very impressed right now." Jacob told him.

". . ."

"So, what we need to do now is figure out what God or Goddess you'll be following. If no God or Goddess accepts you, you can still be a Paladin without their approval. Just it will be a totally different path. Let's head inside the church to figure out what type of God or Goddess you would like to follow." Jacob commented to all of us.

"I have a question actually. It is about the Gods and Goddesses. How many are there?" I decided to ask.

"Honestly, there are way too many to count. There are Gods or Goddesses for literally everything you can think of. Hell, there are even Demi-Gods and Demi-Goddesses. So I can't exactly answer your question. I'm sorry." Jacob told me.

"That is fine, it was still an answer for what I wanted to know." I commented.

Jacob opened the door, and we followed him inside of the church. After going inside, we went towards the right side of the church. I noticed there was a lot of writing on the wall, with pictures depicting different people.

"What are these pictures?" Arialle asked.

"Those are just a few of the Gods and Goddesses. The ones on the right wall are the ones the Paladins follow, on the left wall are the Gods and Goddesses the Clerics follow. Now, you're wanting to be a Protection Paladin that wants to protect his friends, correct?" Jacob then asked.

"Yep." Dj commented.

"Alright, then there are only two I would pick from. One is the God of Guardians and the God of Protection. The God of the Guardians name is Udon, he is actually a Platinum Dragon, but he is a great Dragon who wants to protect anything with a good heart. He is honestly a great God to follow. Now, the God of Protection is Erdon. He is a protector of the weak. His Paladin's go around and rescue the poor from enslavement, and any who are being troubled by monsters. He also isn't a bad God to follow. The choice is yours though. Choose wisely, because once you choose there is no turning back. You can only follow one God the entire time, the only way you can follow two Gods is if they choose you." Jacob explained to Dj.

"Well, honestly I want to choose God of the Guardians, Udon. He seems like the better choice for what I'm wanting to do." Dj commented.

"Are you 100% certain that is the god you're wanting to follow?" Jacob then asked.

"Yes." Dj answered.

"Alright, follow me. I will bring you to the podium for you to say your prayers. I will also grab the necessary stuff to communicate with him." He commented to us.

We followed him to the podium where Dj will start his prayer. After we got there, he went towards a room in the back to grab the stuff Dj needs in order to talk to Udon.

"So, are you ready? Are you ready to become an actual Paladin?" I asked him.

"Indeed I am. This is way different than what I was expecting." Dj commented.

"It definitely can be different, but you'll do just fine!" Philip told him with a smile on his face.

"Thanks!" Dj mentioned.

"Alright, you guys back up about ten feet away, and I'll start placing the items in the correct spot. After I get done, I want you to pray to the God of the Guardians, Udon. The moment you feel a presence try to enter your mind, let it happen. It will be Udon. Now if you don't feel anything, then he decided he didn't want you. Alright?" Jacob told him.

"Alright, I'm ready once you get done with placing the items." Dj commented.

"Alright, then here is the last one. Start praying now!" Jacob told him urgently.

The moment Jacob put the last item down, I felt an energy I've never felt before. It was a very strong and old energy, it was also very calming. It came very quickly, and just as fast as it came, it went away. The moment it went away, Dj opened his eyes, and I noticed they looked like a snake's eyes. Then they went back to his original color, and he ended up passing out right afterwards.

"That is a good thing. That means Udon accepted him, and gave him his blessing. I'll set him in a room upstairs, why don't you guys follow me." Jacob commented.

The moment Jacob put the final piece down on the ground, I started praying.

'Fudge. . . I don't exactly know how to pray. . . Um. . . God of the Guardians, Udon I pray to you to give me your blessing to become a Paladin in order to protect my family and friends.'

[An entity is trying to get past your psychic wall. Would you like to let it enter?]

[Yes/No]

'Yes.'

[Hello there little mortal. I heard your prayer, and I was wondering if I should give you my blessing or not.]

The voice that just entered my head was very powerful, it also sounded just like a talking beast.

'Hello sir. . .'

[Haha. . . It has been awhile since someone has called me sir. I like you, but you also don't seem to be from my world. Who are you exactly? Don't worry, no one will know except me.]

'. . . My real name is Devin Wahl, and I passed away in my original world protecting my father. I came over to this world following my brother Jason. He was the first one to travel into another world. . .'

[Hmm. . . I see he has already started it. . . Hmm. . . This fellow you mentioned, Jason. He seems like a really good brother, and a great friend. I can see why you wanted to follow me. I can also see your father. . . He cared for you a lot, and you cared for him just the same. You have a great heart my child. I'll give you my blessing to protect the ones closest to you.]

'Thank you sir! I do have a question though if you don't mind answering it. . .'

[Go ahead child.]

'Who was you talking about earlier when you said, "I see he has already started it."?'

[Hmm. . . Unfortunately I can't tell you his name. Just know that he is very powerful, and that he is also a good God. Now I have to go attend to something over here. I look forward to great things from you my child, so don't disappoint me.]

'I won't sir!'

After I said that, I felt my connection with him disappear.

After I got the notification from the system, I opened my eyes to notice that everything looked very different. All the colors were different from before, but before I could say anything, I ended up blinking. Then I started getting dizzy and shut my eyes. I ended up drifting off into some sleep.

"Will he be alright?" I asked Jacob.

"Yes, Dj just went through something that most people can only dream about. His God communicated with him in a matter of seconds." He commented.

"So that was the feeling I felt? That energy. . ." I mentioned.

Jacob instantly turned towards me with giant eyes.

"You felt his God's energy? How?" Jacob exclaimed.

"I don't know. . . I felt a very powerful and old energy envelope me, then it went away just as quickly." I told him.

"I can't believe Udon looked upon you too. . . Hmm. . . This is very unprecedented. . . I would suggest doing everything right from now on. Don't sway from having a good heart, understand? It would be detrimental to you both if your heart sways to the evil side." Jacob told me.

"I promise! My heart won't sway!" I exclaimed.

"Alright, I'm going to head on out. Philip, he is now under your care. Treat him well!" Jacob mentioned while walking out of the room.

"Will do bud!" Philip commented back.

"Now we just wait. . ." Arialle said.

"Indeed. . ." I mentioned.
