Chapter 40 - 40

'I shouldn't have shouted at Derick.'

'Great now I feel absolutely horrible for shouting at him.'

'I know he's worried about me but Sophia..I just want to be there for her.'

Lady Melissa's thoughts were filled with statements like these, and she had regretted shouting at her butler Derick.

'But he should see it from my point of view, I want to be there for Sophia.'

As much as Lady Melissa understood Derick's actions, she thought that he should've seen it from her point of view.

She understood how much he cared for her and wanted the best for her but she believed that he should've seen it from her point of view, or at the very least TRIED to see it from her point of view.

Little did Lady Melissa know, Derick had gone through a similar experience once.

After a few more hours had passed by Lady Melissa was on the verge of collapsing and falling asleep.

She was beyond tired, and she didn't eat dinner at all nor drink any water so she was way more tired than she would usually be.

And she had been sitting on a chair in the same position for the entire time she had been in the room Sophia was in.

She didn't mind it much, but her bottom started to ache after sitting in the same position for way too long.

Without realizing it Lady Melissa started to get sleepier by the second, and before she knew it her eyelids had started to close.

'NO! WAKE UP MELISSA! WHAT IF SOPHIA RESPONDS OR SOMETHING WHEN I WAS ASLEEP?'

Lady Melissa internally shouted at herself, desperately trying to stay awake for the sake of Sophia.

She had been desperately hoping for the past few hours for Sophia to wake up, to respond, or anything.

But the past few hours had proved to no avail for Lady Melissa.

Sophia hadn't shown any signs or responses so who's to say she would now?

'Maybe I should just go sleep?'

Lady Melissa thought to herself, she wanted to stay by Sophia's side, but she was tired as well.

She thought it was selfish of her to want to leave Sophia's side, as she knew that Sophia wouldn't leave her side at all.

She felt selfish and guilty, that all of this was her fault from the start.

Lady Melissa was blaming this entire thing on her.

Maybe it was because of the guilt from her past life, seeing Sophia, her most loyal and trusted maid being beheaded, and the fact that Sophia had died in one of the worst and gruesome ways wasn't helping the situation either.

Lady Melissa wanted to repay Sophia somehow, and this had just felt as if Sophia was unlucky every time she was with Lady Melissa.

All Lady Melissa wanted was for Sophia to just wake up, be healthy and live a long life, before passing away from old age.

Lady Melissa just wanted Sophia to have a fun life, maybe that was the only way Lady Melissa would get rid of all the guilt she had for playing a huge part in Sophia's death in her previous life.

'I hope if Sophia dies, she dies from old age.'

'I hope hope hope that she dies from old age. That Sophia gets to live her life and finds her loved one. That she dies from old age with her partner. That she lives a happy and joyous life.'

'Please, please, please!'

Lady Melissa was just desperately hoping for her wish of Sophia being safe and for Sophia to die by old age to come true.

No, it had to come true, for Lady Melissa could finally be able to get rid of all that guilt of hers.

Before Lady Melissa had realized, there was a knock on the door.

The knock on the door had made her snap out of her thoughts almost immediately.

She didn't know why but she had felt something was wrong, Lady Melissa quickly went on her feet and stood up going closer and closer to the door.

She was afraid, she didn't know why but she was just afraid of what was behind the door.

'Let me peek at who's there through the peephole.'

Though the peephole was small it was just enough for Lady Melissa to be able to make through who it was.

Lady Melissa opened the peephole hoping to see someone or something in front of the door, but to her shock, nothing was there.

She slowly opened the door thinking that perhaps she probably saw it wrong and Derick was there or someone else perhaps a maid or servant was present.

But once again, nothing was in front of the door.

She was confused and started to get a little bit paranoid.

'Is our house haunted? Or maybe I'm hallucinating because I didn't eat enough nor drink enough and I've been up for the past few hours.'

'Maybe I should get some sleep? I'm probably hallucinating, and I don't think Sophia would want me to do this for her.'

'NO! MELISSA DON'T GIVE UP SO EASILY! WHAT IF SOPHIA WANTS YOU TO BE THERE FOR HER? YOU KNOW SHE WOULD DO THE EXACT SAME THING FOR YOU RIGHT NOW!'

After a few more minutes of Lady Melissa quarreling internally with herself she had come to a decision.

Lady Melissa released a sigh, reluctantly she decided to go to bed after weighing out all of the pros and cons of her staying by Sophia's side and her just sleeping in her bed.

'I'll probably fall asleep while staying by Sophia's side so I might as well go to my room and just sleep there.'
