Chapter 140 - 140

"Perhaps during nighttime? This is your first day at your new job after all, and I wouldn't want anyone thinking you were slacking off."

Lady Melissa replied, as she thought that it would be best for Justin to try and investigate the maids during nighttime.

"Alright Lady Melissa."

Justin replied, as he quickly hid the file in his shirt, somehow.

Lady Melissa didn't know how the file had managed to be hidden in his shirt, but she didn't want to know, and she wasn't planning on finding out.

"Oh, and I need you to vow your loyalty to me."

Lady Melissa said, as she knew her bodyguard was a knight, which meant that he could do a knight's vow for her.

Well her guard had to be a knight in the first place, or else they would already be disqualified from even having a chance to be Lady Melissa's bodyguard.

"Not a problem Lady Melissa, though do you want me to do it right now?"

Justin asked, wondering when Lady Melissa would like him to do the knight's vow.

"Before we get into that, do you already have a knight's vow before?"

Lady Melissa asked, wondering if Justin already had a knight's vow.

It wasn't impossible to change loyalty from one master to another when a knight says his knight's vow to another master, but it would be excruciatingly painful for the knight.

The new master's name would be engraved into his skin, while the old master's name would disappear from Justin's skin.

The master though would have nothing on his or her skin, though after the knight has done his knight's vow, the master would feel some sort of connection between the two of them.

Each knight's vow was unique, and the Knight got the choice on what he could or not say, such as unwavering loyalty to his master.

"I have done a knight's vow before Lady Melissa."

Justin said, answering Lady Melissa's question.

"Alright, can you handle the pain?"

Lady Melissa asked, concerned for Justin as she had heard about how much it hurt.

"Don't worry Lady Melissa, I've done the Knight's vow multiple times."

Justin said, reassuring Lady Melissa.

Once a knight has done his vow to their master, then he is forced to comply with everything he has vowed, and if he does not comply then he will be killed, by the vow.

Some magic and blood was needed for the Knight's vow, and it needed to be both Lady Melissa's and Justin's.

The old master, who Justin was still connected to because of the Knight's vow, will only feel the connection being severed, and no other consequences.

The one who would only be feeling the excruciating pain when forming the Knight's vow, would be the Knight, and in this case it would be Justin.

"I pledge that I will be loyal to my master, Lady Melissa Mendy Shayla, until the day she does not want to be my master anymore, or she has passed away. I will do my best to protect her, and no matter the circumstances, I will never harm her."

Justin said, as Lady Melissa was surprised, as he had suddenly said his Knight's vow out of nowhere.

Every Knight's vow was unique and different, and this just so happened to be Justin's unique knight vow.

Justin put his right hand on his chest the entire time, while he put his left hand up, raising it.

Lady Melissa took Justin's sword that was on the ground, it was time for her to carry out her part.

She carried his sword, as she used her right arm to gently pat the sword on his right shoulder before she put back his sword on the ground.

The Knight's vow had to be consensual on both parties, and it was consensual on Lady Melissa's part by her taking the Knight's sword and gently patting it on his shoulder.

It was also what the other party needed to do in order for the Knight's vow to work, if the other party does not do so, then the vow will be ignored.

"Stand up Justin."

Lady Melissa said, as she ordered her knight to stand up.

Justin quickly stood up.

"From today on, until I die, or I do not want you as my knight anymore, you will protect me, defend me, and never harm me no matter any of the circumstances."

Lady Melissa said, repeating Justin's oath from earlier.

"Yes, Lady Melissa."

Justin said as he put his right hand on his chest, before bowing down.

"Out of curiosity do you recite the same Knight's vow to every one of your masters?"

Lady Melissa asked, curious whether Justin had been repeating the same Knight's vow to every one of his masters.

"I have a different knight's vow for every one of my masters, and it is based on their interests."

Justin said, briefly explaining to Lady Melissa that he had a different knight's vow for every one of his masters.

"Alright, good to know. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, in daytime when I'm doing my lessons or doing some work, I would like you to just guard me from one of the corners of the room, and protect me, oh and don't stare at me so intensely either, it makes it hard for me to focus."

Lady Melissa said, as she told Justin where he should stand when she was working or doing her lessons, she also expressed that it was hard for her to focus if anybody would stare at her too intensely.

"Understood Lady Melissa."

Justin said, bowing his head down again.

"During nighttime that's when you'll be investigating what I ask you to, I have no doubt you'll be investigating other things for me in the future, not just about maids."

Lady Melissa said, telling Justin what to do during nighttime.

"Might I ask a question, Lady Melissa?"

Justin wondered, asking Lady Melissa if he could ask her a question.

"By all means, go ahead."

Lady Melissa said, insisting that Justin asked her a question.

"What if you get ambushed during the nighttime? How will I protect you?"

Justin asked, as during kidnappings or assassination attempts it usually happened during the nighttime, as most people would be sleeping.

"That's why, you'll have this."

Lady Melissa said, as she opened her drawer, taking out a plain bracelet.

"What is that Lady Melissa and why are you showing it to me?"

Justin curiously asked, wondering why Lady Melissa had taken out a plain bracelet.

"This is connected to my heart beat. I had someone to link it together last time, whenever my heart rate is too fast or too low, it will alert you, sending three beeps, very loud beeps which I might add."

Lady Melissa said, explaining to Justin.

"How will I protect you though Lady Melissa? I will know that you're in danger when the bracelet alerts me but how will I know where you have disappeared to?"

Justin asked, as he urged for his master's safety, knowing that he needed more than a bracelet to protect his master when he was out.

"I wasn't finished Justin."

Lady Melissa sternly said, as she glared at him.

"My apologies, Lady Melissa."

Justin said, as he bowed his head down, apologizing to Lady Melissa.

"That's why, I also have this."

Lady Melissa said, continuing her sentence as she took something else from her drawers, it was a ring.

"What does the ring do Lady Melissa?"

Justin curiously asked, wondering what the ring did and how it would help him protect Lady Melissa when he wasn't near her.

"This ring will help you teleport to wherever I am, it's connected to this bracelet right here."
