The Crown Prince simply told Lady Melissa to get over it and it was only a group of noblewomen playing a game with her, and that it was nothing much.

He told her to bear with it and put up with it for him.

Lady Melissa had always had a target on her back because of the Crown Prince, many women wanted to be his lover.

They wanted the status, the reputation, and the money that would come with it.

Maybe it was because Lady Melissa's parents had done nothing to piss of the public, or the royal family so they hadn't have any ambushes or assassination attempts, yet at least.

Lady Melissa couldn't recall either of her parents getting an assanation attempt either.

Which was surprising, even though their security was pretty good, it wasn't good enough as Lady Melissa was able to sneak out of the manor without getting caught.

If she could do so then it would be possible for others to sneak in, into the manor as well, and Lady Melissa didn't want that happening.

Maybe she had to ask her parents to put up a barrier just in case anything happens.

Whether it was consciously or unconsciously, Lady Melissa knew something was going to happen, she could feel it in her guts.

She just didn't know when it would happen, and she had felt uneasy the past couple of days, though she brushed it off thinking she was overthinking.

Lady Melissa wondered if her gut feeling was right once again, or that maybe she was just overthinking the whole thing like usual.

She was the queen of overthinking things, and although she had tried her best not to think of other events that were coming up, she couldn't help but do so.

The hunting event was the next week after her parent's anniversary, so it would be on a Friday, and she was a little nervous about the whole thing.

Although Lady Melisssa had already been guaranteed a seat next beside Duke Alphonso, and that he was in the farthest seat possible from any of the royal family members, there was always the chance that she could get caught.

Plus, if anybody looked down under the table at the moment Lady Melissa handed out the small piece of paper, rumours could be spread easily.

And before Lady Melissa would know it, the story would be completely twisted, from Lady Melissa handing Duke Alphonso a small piece of paper to them holding hands.

And even if Lady Melissa had managed to prove it otherwise, who would believe her? Everybody wanted to believe what they thought was true, even when it wasn't.

It was the sad truth, and it was human nature, everyone only wanted to believe what they thought was true, even when given evidence that it was false.

It was society, and even if by some miracle, Lady Melissa had managed to make people believe it wasn't true, there would still be rumours of her.

There would be rumours of her, and anything involving her and a man, would be made into a scandal.

Even if it was a married man, then the rumours would be twisted into Lady Melissa having a love affair with the man.

Lady Melissa wanted to keep a low profile on bad rumours, or getting into any scandals.

She couldn't risk the reputation that she had managed to build so far, although it wasn't much yet.

She had to start small before Lady Melissa would be able to achieve something bigger, and better.

Lady Melissa told herself to take things one step at a time, and that it was best that she didn't rush things.

Which was kind of ironic since Lady Melissa has less than a year to take down the Crown Prince.

Lady Melissa wondered if she would have a longer time limit since in less than a year it would only be her first meeting with the Crown Prince.

Then again, Lady Melissa was more sure that she only had less than a year as her time limit since that was when she had met the Crown Prince.

Lady Melissa needed to be a part of balls, and join gatherings that consisted of women who were very influential amongst society.

It was good to keep your friends close, but always keep your enemies closer. It was a phrase that Lady Melissa always had at the back of her head.

And just maybe, she would take its advice and go along with it. Speaking of balls, Lady Melissa had opened some of the letters so far and had personally read them.

So far she had read about 3 or 4 letters in her free time, and unfortunately, the letters didn't contain much…. information that would benefit Lady Melissa.

Some of the letters she had read asked her to go to the ball that they were hosting, the only problem was that the family was financially struggling.

Lady Melissa wanted to help out the family, but she knew what the rumours would say about her if she attended, so she sent a reply back.

To summarize everything was just a really long letter from Lady Melissa saying that she unfortunately wouldn't be able to attend the party.

Due to her being busy on the very day that the ball was going to take place, which was the truth.

It wasn't a lie at least, but if it was really an important event Lady Melissa could simply cancel everything she had on that day.

But, it wasn't an important event, and Lady Melissa would prefer doing her daily activities rather than attending the ball.

The two other invites consisted of some young noble women wanting to meet up with Lady Melissa, and have some tea together.

The noble women in question however, wanted to meet with Lady Melissa privately, and Lady Melissa didn't want to meet anyone privately.

It was just a gut feeling Lady Melissa had, not to meet with anyone privately except if it was someone she could trust.

Maybe that gut feeling of hers would disappear in a week or two, or at least she hoped so.
