Lady Melissa's heart was beating out of her chest, it was a little nerve-wracking that everyone in the ball had their eyes on her, Duchess Victoria included.
It was considered pretty rude if the first thing Lady Melissa had done wasn't to greet Duchess Victoria, which was why she was doing it right now or is going to do it.
Duchess Victoria waved her arms though, and in an instant, everyone continued chatting and talking with each other, and the music continued as well.
Although Lady Melissa missed the attention on her, she was grateful for Duchess Victoria's actions, who knew how much longer she'd be able to stand all the attention on her?
Lady Melissa was definitely going to be the star of tonight's ball, and any future balls that she was going to attend.
"Greetings Duchess Victoria, it is an honour to be invited to this party."
Lady Melissa said as she bowed down to Duchess Victoria a little, greeting Duchess Victoria while she was still bowed down.
Now, Duchess Victoria had less power than the Shayla estate, and Lady Melissa didn't have to bow down to her, but she knew that she needed to, to earn a good impression from her.
"Greetings to you too, and which one of these many suitors have caught your eye? I must say, you look very stunning tonight."
Duchess Victoria said, complementing Lady Melissa, who still kept her guard up, knowing that Duchess Victoria could be a beast if she wanted to.
"Thank you for the compliment Duchess Victoria, you look beautiful as well. As for your question, all of the men here are exceptionally good-looking and each has their own talents, though I'm not particularly interested in any one of them. Perhaps you can give me some tips or advice?"
Lady Melissa said, asking Duchess Victoria for some tips or advice while answering her question, she had asked the question so both she and the Duchess could engage in the conversation longer.
"Of course! Come and sit here."
Duchess Victoria said as she told Lady Melissa to sit on the seat beside her so the both of them could chat with each other.
Duchess Victoria shooed away the woman who was sitting on the chair, as the woman put out a hurt expression, before leaving.
Surprisingly, talking to Duchess Victoria was much more enjoyable than she'd thought it would be.
As Duchess Victoria was talking about the noblemen she'd thought would suit Lady Melissa, the Duchess took a glass of water.
And 'accidentally' spilt it on Lady Melissa, it was finally time for Lady Melissa to get tested by Duchess Victoria, or at least it was time for her first test.
"Oh I'm so sorry, I must've been so clumsy."
Duchess Victoria said as she apologized to Lady Melissa for accidentally spilling the glass of water all over her dress.
"Oh, it's fine Duchess, though I must excuse myself to get a change of clothes."
Lady Melissa said as the Duchess nodded her head.
Lady Melissa immediately left the venue, as Sophia was waiting for her.
Before Lady Melissa left, however, she spared one last glance to Duchess Victoria, seeing her gossip with the other women that surrounded her.
Lady Melissa let out a smile, it was a good thing that she had come prepared with an even better dress just in case Duchess Victoria would do the exact same thing she did to her last time.
Though things had gone a little differently than they had been in her past life, in her past life Duchess Victoria spilt hot scorching tea all over Lady Melissa.
Lady Melissa had even gotten some burns because of how hot the tea was, fortunately for her though the burns hadn't lasted that long, only lasting for a few days.
While this time, Duchess Victoria had spilt cold water all over Lady Melissa's dress, whether Lady Melissa realized it or not, she was changing the future.
"Is there anything that I can do to assist you?"
A maid asked Lady Melissa, whilst Sophia was standing behind her about to talk to Lady Melissa when the maid had already done so before her.
"Yes, where is the changing room?"
Lady Melissa asked the maid, to which the maid politely and quickly replied, giving Lady Melissa the directions.
Lady Melissa and Sophia quickly headed into the changing room, with every second that she was wasting by not being in the ball, was every more second that people were forgetting about her, though it was hard to forget about someone like Lady Melissa.
With the help of Sophia, she was able to quickly change into the dress that she had prepared beforehand that the owner of the Hermione boutique, who was her friend, had made for her.
It was a beautiful white dress, with diamonds on its sleeves and it was a v-cut showing some of Lady Melissa's collarbone.
Lady Melissa quickly went back inside the venue, though she made sure not to run, not wanting to fall and sprain her ankle.
The same maid that had given Lady Melissa directions to where the changing room was earlier was opening the door for her, as Lady Melissa made her way back into the ball.
However, she couldn't use the same place where she had entered earlier, as she had to climb a dozen stairs to get there, and she didn't have the time to do so.
Lady Melissa instead, entered through the door that was on the first floor, as she quickly made her way to Duchess Victoria who just so happened to be sipping some tea.
"Oh? You're back already? That was quick."
Duchess Victoria said to Lady Melissa, both surprised and impressed by the fact that Lady Melissa was able to change into a new dress immediately.
It was almost as if Lady Melissa had expected for something like this to happen, though Duchess Victoria quickly erased the thought.
There was no way for anyone to tell the future.
"Yes, my maid got my dress from yesterday when I went shopping in the carriage, luckily she hadn't put the dress back."
Lady Melissa said, quickly making up some sort of lie that would sound reasonable enough to Duchess Victoria.
