Chapter 238 - 238

"He's going to be watching us?"

Duke Gaston said it was evident that he didn't want Nathan to just creepily observe their conversation the entire time, even though he had his own army of men that would come to his every call in just a few seconds.

"Yes, he's my bodyguard."

Lady Melissa replied, with a harsh tone as Duke Gaston stared at her for a few seconds.

"How can I trust him?"

Duke Gaston asked, clearly still skeptical of the whole thing, not knowing whether he could truly trust Nathan, or not.

"I made him do a Knight's vow to me and swear his loyalty to me, don't worry, I was there with him and everything so I saw it with my own two eyes."

Lady Melissa said as she rubbed the back of her neck, irritated with the number of questions Duke Gaston kept asking her, though it wasn't like he could help it.

"I guess he can stay."

Duke Gasston mumbled, loud enough for Lady Melissa to hear, but not loud enough for Nathan to hear.

"Why are there four chairs?"

Duke Gaston asked, as he was about to take a seat down before he observed the number of chairs in the table. He thought that this was some sort of private meeting or gathering between the two of them, and not that there were going to be other people.

He convinced himself that it was just a few extra chairs lying around, but his brain knew otherwise as Lady Melissa answered his question.

"Oh it's for the others."

Lady Melissa blankly said, only sparing a glance to Duke Gaston before she averted her gaze, a yawn escaping from her lips.

"What others?"

Duke Gaston asked, a little embarrassed that he had thought she had invited the two of them, alone, to go on a hangout or gathering together, with just the two of them.

Duke Gaston felt stupid, he shouldn't have let his hopes gotten up, he was just his acquaintance, not even close enough to be considered a friend by her.

He wanted to be something more than an acquaintance to Lady Melissa, but he didn't know how, and he was planning to find out just how soon enough, in some way.

"I didn't only invite you, I invited the other partners for the rebellion as well."

Lady Melissa calmly stated, as Duke Gaston tried to hide a scoff, secretly displeased by the unfortunate turn of events.

"So you're saying that, there are going to be four people, including the both of us?"

Duke Gaston asked, obviously displeased, not like Lady Melisssa scared though.

"Yes, is there a problem with that Duke Gaston?"

Lady Melissa asked as Duke Gaston stayed silent, as he sat beside Lady Melissa's chair.

The both of them suddenly heard footsteps as on cue, they turned their heads in unison, and it was none other than Duke Alphonso, and, there was fifteen minutes before the tea party even started.

"Greetings Lady Melissa."

Duke Alphonso said, as he bowed down to her, to which she greeted him as well in reply.

"I see that this is one of the other partners for the rebellion?"

Duke Alphonso whispered to Lady Melissa who nodded her head.

"Who is he?"

Duke Alphonso asked Lady Melissa as he gazed at Nathan, he had never seen her before, perhaps he should run a background check on him.

"He's my bodyguard, don't worry, I've made him do a Knight's vow before being my bodyguard, and then he swore his loyalty to me, so even if he does want to tell anyone anything about this, he'll die before he has the chance to do so."

Lady Melissa said, though Duke Alphonso was a little skeptical, sure he trusted her, but he didn't trust Nathan at all, and this was their first encounter with each other.

"Is there any proof of sorts that he's done the Knight's vow?"

Duke Alphonso asked as Lady Melissa nodded her head.

"Nathan! Come here!"

Lady Melissa ordered Nathan to come- to which he did of course.

"Open your shirt."

Lady Melissa demanded as the two men were left in confusion- what was she trying to do? and in front of them nonetheless?

Lady Melissa spotted multiple scars all over Nathan's back, though that wasn't what she was looking for.

She scanned his whole back before her eyes finally landed on what she was looking for- the Shayla family's mark on his back.

It was on his right shoulder, and Lady Melissa had engraved the Shayla family's mark on his body, and it'd stay there, at last for the time he'd continue to work for Lady Melissa.

She had put it on all of her bodyguard's backs as well, including Justin's, though they were all covered either on their backs or somewhere that could be easily hidden, just in case anyone didn't trust the Shayla estate, she could easily use one of her bodyguards to find more information or such.

"Satisfied?"

Lady Melissa asked Duke Alphonso as he nodded his head, Nathan putting on his shirt.

"I assume there's one more person who hasn't come, am I right?"

Duke Alphonso said as he merely gazed at the empty chair beside him, as Lady Melissa nodded her head, replying to his question.

"This doesn't start in five minutes, so technically, he's not late, yet at least."

Lady Melissa said to Duke Alphonso and Duke Gaston, who had strangely been quiet this entire time ever since Duke Alphonso had come.

Duke Alphonso hadn't even spared a single glance to Duke Gaston for some reason, perhaps the history between the both of them wasn't as simple as she thought.

As in cue, Duke Mason appeared, a smile on his face as he spotted the other two, kneeling down to kiss Lady Melissa's hand.

Duke Mason, along with Duke Gaston thought he was going to be meeting with Lady Melissa alone, and even though he was a bit displeased, he wouldn't let that spoil his mood.
