"Father, although I appreciate your concern, I have to unfortunately decline, I'm sure that the King would be enraged to see the both of you along with me, and I don't want anything bad to happen to us, and mother, I know that you're afraid that I might say the wrong thing, but I'm an adult now, I've made my debut, and I believe that I'm smart enough to say the right things and make the right decisions, I don't need either you or papa to do it for me."
Lady Melissa said, as she tried to put an empathic tone at least for the first part, whilst using a more louder tone for the second part, trying to get her parents to take the bait- if only they weren't so stubborn she thought.
She could easily see through them- and their intentions for that matter, if they had even truly cared for her then they would've accompanied her here, even if they were busy.
Perhaps she was acting this way because of the incident that happened a few weeks ago, but she was starting to open her eyes with what her parents were doing to her- they were manipulating her, and they thought that she wouldn't find out.
Lady Melissa did admit though, she didn't find out about it because of how well they disguised their manipulation as love and affection to her- and as a child, Lady Melissa craved love and affection, which was why she had ended up falling for the Crown Prince, he had given her love and affection, at least it seemed like he did so.
Lady Melissa didn't add the fact that she had already talked to the King before, more specifically, before the hunter's event had started, half an hour or so before it had started.
Lady Melissa could still see her parent's concerned faces, though she knew better than ever that they weren't really concerned, as she was about to add something on to pull the strings in their heart before someone had beaten her to it.
"Lady Melissa? The King wants to see you now."
Duke Gaston said, as he spotted Lady Melissa and her parents, he was the one who was seeing the King earlier, as he raised his eyebrows, he didn't know that Lady Melissa was going to be the next person to see the King, though he had overheard about it as he was leaving the room the King would use to entertain his guests.
"Is that so? I'm sorry mama and papa, but I have to go now."
Lady Melissa said, with a polite smile, as she glanced at Duke Gaston, he had saved her.
"Wait Me-"
The Duchess said, though Lady Melissa had pretended not to hear it as she made her way towards Duke Gaston, as he accompanied her to the room that the King was in.
"What was that?"
Duke Gaston asked as he raised one of his eyebrows, when he had first saw her parents with Lady Melissa, it didn't look like the usual family scenario.
"Nothing you need to concern yourself with."
Lady Melissa said, coldly dismissing Duke Gaston as he was left speechless, not knowing how to reply to her cold answer.
"Why are you here?"
Duke Gaston asked her instead, deciding to change the topic since it was obvious that she was sensitive to it- or didn't want to talk about it to him.
"Don't you already know? I'm here to see the King."
Lady Melissa said, irritated with Duke Gaston and his stupid questions.
"I know that, but why are you having an audience with the King?"
Duke Gaston asked, as Lady Melissa simply stayed silent, thinking of an answer to give him.
"I need to call in a favour."
Lady Melissa said, as Duke Gaston momentarily glanced at her, curious to whatever the favor was and what it had to do, though if he was guessing- he assumed that it was something related to the Crown Prince, or his new fiance.
"I see."
Duke Gaston replied, as Lady Melissa merely said nothing in reply.
"You? Why did you meet the King?"
Lady Melissa asked as Duke Gaston wondered how she had known- before realizing that she had probably assumed so because he had called for her whilst she was talking to her parents about something.
"I'm afraid that is confidential information, though you'll find out soon enough."
Duke Gaston said as Lady Melissa said nothing in return, what had the King talk to Duke Gaston about?
If she was to guess- it probably has something to do with war, since he was the main general of the palace army's troops.
Perhaps it had something to do with the thing that was supposed to happen in a month or so? Though that was a story for another day.
"This is the room."
Duke Gaston said, as he came to a halt whilst Layd Melissa did the same.
The room was protected with bodyguards on the side of it, though almost every other room was also- though this room had more guards protecting it.
"Thanks for helping me out."
Lady Melissa blankly said, proceeding to knock on the door as she heard a booming reply, telling her to come in.
Duke Gaston took a few seconds to process Lady Melissa's words, confused on what she meant. Did she mean that she was grateful for him helping her out from a tough situation with her parents? Or was the reason that she was thankful was because he had managed to help guide her to the room where the King was?
Before Duke Gaston could even reply though, Lady Melissa had already entered the room the King was in, and he knew better than ever to enter the room as well, he had been working for the King for a number of years, so he knew how the King could be when he was mad or in a fit of rage, and he knew that it was better not to enrage the King, he certainly didn't want to be on the receiving end if he ever did enrage the King though.
