Chapter 267 - 267

"Anyways, is that all you came for? Cause if so I'd appreciate it if you leave now."

Lady Melissa said, as she turned her back around from him, escaping from his trap, as she was about to open the door, before he stopped her, using his hand as he harshly punched it beside her face, as he stopped her.

"Why did you make a contract with the King?"

Duke Alphonso repeated, his voice filled with concern, and confusion, as this time it was Lady Melissa's turn to be confused, why did Duke Alphonso sound so distressed when he said those words?

What was wrong with her making a contract with the King? It wasn't as if she wasn't aware of the problems and consequences she would face if she did so.

"Let me rephrase what I said earlier to you, it's none of your problem, now leave."

Lady Melissa said, as she emphasized the last part, as Duke Alphonso slowly released her from his grasp, as she rolled her eyes. (dramatic people smh)

"Go. Now."

Lady Melissa said as Duke Alphonso looked like a sad puppy- she could imagine his ears drooping down as she heard those words.

"Fine. You can stay."

Lady Melissa said, as she let out a sigh, what was the thing with Dukes and visiting her house using the window and appearing unannounced anyway?

She understood why they wouldn't send her a letter publicly but they could've at least given her a warning beforehand, so that she wouldn't be surprised at their sudden appearances, though with how often this had been happening she wasn't surprised anymore, or at least not that surprised compared to when the first time an incident like this had happened.

Duke Alphonso had a happy expression on his face, as Lady Melissa let out a chuckle, touching his hair before she soon pulled her hand away, not knowing why she had even done that.

Unbeknownst to her, outside of her room there stood another man, his hands filled with flowers in his hand, wanting to give them to Lady Melissa before he saw the scene in front of them, crushing the flowers the next few seconds.

Lady Melissa, feeling something was off, glanced outside of the window, into the tree, though there was nothing there, as she brushed it off.

The man had left just a few seconds ago after witnessing the scene of Lady Melissa brushing Duke Alphonso's head, as the man was filled with both jealousy and anger through his veins, though at the same time he knew that he and Lady Melissa weren't anything.

At most, they were friends, though he doubted that she even considered them that close, perhaps he was just an acquaintance to her, nothing more and nothing less.

The man was hurt honestly- which was why he had left the Shayla estate.

He couldn't bear to witness another one of those sights- a sight where Lady Melissa would show her affection to another man- another man who wasn't him, as his heart ached, vowing to himself that he'd be the one in her heart and not some other man.

The man would never admit it out loud, but he was in love with Lady Melissa, much more than he knew he was- but he knew that those eyes that would often stare back at him weren't filled with love- instead, it was filled with a raging passion.

What was the burning passion that she had in her eyes? He didn't know, but ever since he saw her- ever since how she had presented herself and talked to the public- how elegant and dignified she was, and yet at the same time was dominant and confident intrigued him to learn more about her.

It was what had made him so interested in her anyway, and he wasn't going to lose to another man.

Lady Melissa decided that the best course of action was to ask all her bodyguards, specifically today to just guard her against the outside of her room, which she had specifically made soundproof ever since she had entered it, just in case she needed to have a conversation she'd prefer that her bodyguards didn't find out about, or wouldn't find out about.

Lady Melissa exited her room, as she ordered Nathan to guard her against her door instead and to tell the other bodyguards as well to do so later on, to which he nodded his head as Lady Melissa excused him to leave her side, to tell the other bodyguards.

"As much as I love your presence here, don't you have some work to do Duke Alphonso? You work at the royal palace, and might I remind you that you're one of the Crown Prince's aides?"

Lady Melissa asked, raising one of her eyebrows- as she knew for a fact how busy royal family employees were, especially when they worked directly under the royal family, taking on their orders and speaking daily to them every day.

"Don't worry about that, I've already gotten it all sorted out."

Duke Alphonso said as he reassured Lady Melissa who rolled her eyes in annoyance, already knowing that she was going to figure out how he had so much free time on his hands later on, but not now since she needed to get work done.

Work which she shouldn't probably show in front of Duke Alphonso, but she was sure that he wouldn't care that much, and if he did betray her she'd just dispose of him, after all, everyone was disposable, and could just be replaced with someone else.

"Just wait here on the couch, I have some work to do."

Lady Melissa said, as she dismissed Duke Alphonso who decided to sit on her couch, as he stared intensely at Lady Melissa who was finishing some paperwork, as she felt his intense stares at her.

Now Lady Melissa was used to stares-heck she had them all the time during balls and such, since, she was THE main event.
