Chapter 283

Meanwhile, Lady Melissa then remembered something- if neither of her bodyguards or anyone else for that matter was able to track her, then how was Duke Gaston able to do so?

She had highly appreciated the fact that he had gone so far to look for her, however, it wasn't adding up. How was he able to find her, yet someone who had all the resources wasn't able to?

Lady Melissa had kept her guard up around Duke Gaston, wondering ever since she had escaped from the place whether it really was him, or it was just Lady Camilia and one of her henchmen that was disguised as him.

Lady Melissa had felt that all the time she had spent with him was the real Duke Gaston, though she hadn't been one hundred percent sure, deciding that she'd play it safe and just constantly keep her guard up around him.

However, there were a couple of times where she had unconsciously let her guard down to him a number of times during the time that they had spent together with each other, yet Duke Gaston hadn't taken advantage of any of her moments of weaknesses when someone like him could easily do so.

Additionally, Duke Gaston didn't have any traces of magic or anything on his body, so Lady Melissa thought that this was probably the real Duke Gaston that she had spent her time talking to, and this was the very same Duke Gaston that she was going to be bringing to the Shayla estate.

The trip back to the Shayla estate went fairly smooth, other than a few bumps on the roads everything was great, as there Lady Melissa was, her horse right in front of the Shayla estate.

Lady Melissa could see the guards' eyes widen, as one of them even tried to slap himself to make sure that he wasn't dreaming.

"Is that you...Lady Melissa?"

One of the guards asked, unconvinced, especially since they had found no sort of news or evidence that proved that their mistress was still alive, for all they know this woman right in front of them could be someone impersonating her because of her money, and neither one of them certainly wanted to get fired.

"Yes, it is I, Lady Melissa Mendy Shayla, daughter of the Duchess and Duke of the Shayla estate."

Lady Melissa confidently replied, not even stuttering a single bit.

"Please wait a few minutes."

One of the guards said as another guard ran inside the manor estate- soon Derreck, coming outside, not believing the nonsense that the guards were telling him about, and deciding that he'd see it by himself to see whether they were actually telling the truth, or lying for some reason.

"Lady...Melisssa?"

Derreck asked, his voice sounding unsure whether the woman right in front of him was even her- after all, he had already made a few assumptions that his mistress had been dead, after all, she had disappeared for fifteen years without a single trace.

"Let me in."

Lady Melissa said as it was obvious from her tone that she was starting to get annoyed at the fact that she wasn't being permitted into the estate yet, plus, the sun was being a pain in the arse today and it was just plain scorching hot.

Lady Melissa looked absolutely horrible, her hair was just a dishevelled mess, her originally white dress was now stained with dirt all over her, and she was going to die of thirst any longer that she wasn't allowed inside, plus she wanted to take a warm shower to clean off all the dirt on her body.

"Lady Melissa...is it really you?"

Derreck asked, not being completely sure whether it truly was his master that was right in front of him right now, since there wasn't any sort of evidence for him to believe that it was actually her.

"This is Lady Melissa?"

Derreck asked, as he glanced at the bodyguards, finally noticing them as they nodded their heads, as the man spent some time thinking, if this was someone impersonating Lady Melissa, then they could easily take advantage of her position and use it to their own advantage, which would probably lead to a series of events happening after it.

"Will you please wait a few minutes Lady Melissa?"

Derreck politely asked Lady Melisa, who kept getting more and more irritated by every second and minute that had passed.

Lady Melissa wasn't even given any time to reply due to the fact that Derreck had already disappeared from her sight just when she was about to reply to him.

To say that Lady Melissa was annoyed would be an understatement, though it did make her wonder how Derreck hadn't spotted Duke Gaston behind her, though then again, his body was covered by the two other horses beside her horse.

Lady Melissa was pretty sure that the guards had noticed Duke Gaston, after all, they had even gone and greeted him, whilst Lady Melissa merely stared daggers into their souls, after all, they were sceptical of the person in front of them, who was their master.

Though Lady Melissa could understandably see why they would think of her like that after all Lady Melissa had disappeared for 15 hours and more often than not, nobles who disappeared after 12 hours would usually end up being dead, or at least the vast majority of them would usually end up being dead.

Perhaps her parents were even planning her funeral right now, at this very moment whilst Derreck was rushing into the Shayla estate, to fact-check something.

Lady Melissa let out a yawn, stretching out her arms, as she felt her throat becoming drier and drier by the second, after all, she had drank practically no water at all during the entirety of the 15 hours that she had gone missing, and neither had she eaten any sort of food, as her stomach let out a growl, she was very hungry.
