Chapter 290

Lady Melissa didn't care that much about her parents though, ever since she had made that vow to herself, her expectations for love and praise from them would just disappear slowly day by day.

She had finally come to the realization that no matter how hard she tried- no matter how much effort she put into something to try and make her parents proud, they wouldn't ever be genuinely sincerely proud of her.

Lady Melissa knew that they would act like they were proud of her, but she could see it in their eyes- that the both of them could care less, she had started to get used to it- not even expecting any sort of praise from either of them anymore nowadays.

Lady Melissa couldn't blame herself forever wanting praise from her parents- and genuine sincere love from the both of them, she wanted them to brag about her- for once in their lives, to just brag about her to their other nobles since they had never even done so in the past.

Lady Melissa had always wanted her parents to brag about her- to talk about her ever since she was a child, and to be proud of her- it was something she had always wanted, though she no longer wanted that anymore.

Especially as a child, and in her past life, Lady Melissa had thought that her parents saw her as some sort of 'burden' someone that they found a burden- someone that they didn't consider as a daughter.

Hence why Lady Melissa was more than ecstatic at her parent's actions and the ways that they would react to her when she had first come to her second life- how different they were from her past life.

However, within just a couple of weeks, she would notice that her parents would start to pay less and less attention to her- her happiness was short-lived, and her parents' attention on her was only temporary.

Lady Melissa was sure that the reason her parents had even paid attention to her this time was because of her peculiar actions, but once they had started to get used to it- they dismissed Lady Melissa's actions, not caring much about their own daughter anymore.

It was sort of sad for Lady Melissa, she had given her parents so many chances- maybe even dozens of them, yet they wouldn't even try and make up for their mistakes a single time, and even when they had apologized to her, they didn't change much.

In the end, Lady Melissa was left with a pitiful ending to her story, though that wasn't where it had ended yet, perhaps in the future, Lady Melissa would rekindle her relationship with her parents and mend it, or would she make her vow a reality?

No one would know, but Lady Melissa was determined to stick to her vow- she had already been let down, disappointed by her parent's actions numerous times, and she couldn't bring herself to be disappointed by them once again.

It obviously hurt Lady Melissa, as well as her mental health- expecting that her parents would finally be proud of her, yet once again reality would always come crashing down, and prove otherwise.

She was always met with the harsh cruel fate of reality, that her parents didn't care for her- and they were never going to acknowledge her, they were just going to use her for publicity, and to maintain the picture of a 'good family'.

It worked, everybody instantly believed the story, though there were dozens of other noble families as well playing this sick game of make-believe, pretending to be the 'perfect' family that everyone would be jealous of- when in reality, the 'perfect' family had far more problems than the regular 'normal' family.

Lady Melissa was admittedly jealous, jealous of the fact that there were others- whose parents genuinely cared about them, and were proud of all of their awards and achievements in life, parents who loved their children.

Sometimes, Lady Melissa wasn't even sure anymore if her parents loved her, they had paid little to no attention to her, and they wouldn't even try to mend their already broken relationship with their daughter.

Lady Melissa was over that though- or so she believed, she was going to do what she was best at, ignore all her 'unimportant' problems, toss them to the side and bottle up all her feelings until a mental breakdown would just come through.

Lady Melissa had learnt that most of the time that it was best for her to just bottle up all her feelings and toss them to the side, as she would often deem them as 'useless' 'a waste of time' and so on.

After all, how was Lady Melissa supposed to get everything done by the end of the day if she worked with her feelings? She'd end up worrying over her mental health more than getting any of the work done, which was obviously not good.

So far, this strategy that Lady Melissa had been doing had been working- she had used this very same strategy ever since the first few weeks she had been in her second life, and she continued to use it after seeing the satisfying results that it would produce for her.

Was it unhealthy for her to do such a thing? The answer was obviously yes. She had cared much more about getting work done rather than her mental health, and sometimes, it would just cause her problems.

Lady Melissa could just be so stressed out that for no specific reason at all, she would just act frustrated and angrier to the people surrounding her, when in reality- neither of them had even done anything wrong.

Sometimes, it had gotten so bad to the point that Lady Melissa wasn't able to control her own feelings, though Lady Melissa could still control her actions and words, though sometimes all logic would just flow out of her head, and disappear in the process.
