Chapter 292

Nonetheless, Lady Melissa was more than ecstatic that in just a few days, she'd finally be able to go outside again- she had even scheduled an audience with the King, that would only be a few days after the last day of her grounding period.

Lady Melissa was going to enter her return back to society with a bang, even though she hadn't appeared in society for quite a long period of time, the invitation of letters that she would receive was never-ending.

Every day, she would receive dozens and dozens of letters, her piles of them just continued to stack up adding up and up and up, Lady Melissa was going to be attending yet another ball- this time, however, it was hosted by Duke Mason.

Typically, when balls such as these, were hosted by single Dukes, Barons, Viscounts and etc, it was usually that the man hosting it was looking for a fiance, and even if the man wasn't looking for one, simply because of the fact that he was single and wealthy would be enough for noblewomen to flock on him.

Lady Melissa knew that Duke Mason had sent her the letter so that she'd come, after all, Lady Melissa just couldn't miss this, this would be Duke Mason's first time ever, holding a ball, as he found them a waste of time beforehand, and although he participated in a number of balls he never thought of hosting his own.

Who was Lady Melissa to decline an invitation from someone as mighty as Duke Mason? She was sure that everyone important was going to be there, perhaps even the Crown Prince or the Queen might show up.

After all, it had been a considerable amount of time as well since the Queen had gone on a social gathering or event, the reason she hadn't gotten the chance to do so was probably that she was too busy these past few months or so.

Lady Melissa, of course, sent back a letter to Duke Mason, replying to a yes to his invite, and the day that she was finally going to be free from her grounding- and be allowed to go and socialize once more, was the very same day that Duke Mason was going to be hosting his ball.

Was it a coincidence? Lady Melissa highly doubted so- out of all the dates that were there, Duke Mason had just so happened to choose the very same date that she would finally be able to socialize?

Nonetheless, Lady Melissa was more than grateful with Duke Mason being so thoughtful as he chose the very same date as the day that she would be done with her grounding- which only meant one thing, her suspicions were right.

Duke Mason was the one who had probably been watching her during the few days that she was grounded- and had probably figured something out, or at least Duke Mason was one of the men who had watched Lady Melissa.

Lady Melissa wondered whether next time she needed to go to Duke Mason or Duke Gaston's estate if she should just sneak in from the window like how they would just so often do to her, which would, of course, annoy her to death most of the time.

Of course, she wasn't actually planning to go through with the plan and go to one of their houses climbing through trees and sneaking inside through their window- but the very idea of her doing that to them was tempting, to say the least.

Lady Melissa would do many things just to see their surprised faces after she would pull the reverse card on them (uno reverse card), and sneak into each one of their houses through the window.

She was never going to actually do that though, since she knew that there were too many risks of doing so, one, she was sure that their security was very tight, perhaps even tighter than hers, and each and every one of them had their own individual bodyguards watching them from the dark just in case something would happen.

Lady Melissa was then reminded of something- more specifically, about something and someone, the very person that she was thinking about was currently Duke Gaston, and how he didn't have any bodyguards following him.

Lady Melissa knew that the Duke was often targeted a lot for assassins due to his wealth as well as his high status, so it didn't make any sense to her how he would go somewhere freely and not bring his bodyguard along with him.

Lady Melissa had unfortunately not been able to ask Duke Gaston about this question since she wasn't exactly allowed to go out of the house, and she was sure that her letters would be monitored by her parents, or someone else.

Lady Melissa couldn't even send her letter to a carrier pigeon or ask one of her bodyguards to send them because she was still being observed closely by her parent's bodyguards, and she wasn't going to threaten them- at least not yet.

Lady Melissa didn't want to let the jig be up so early, since there was no doubt that her father would find out about it and just replace the bodyguards with new ones, who would be even more loyal and observant of her and her actions.

Lady Melissa had observed the bodyguards her father sent during the past few days, after all, how could she not when they were practically gawking at her every minute and second of the day?

It was more than annoying to Lady Melissa at first when they would just stare at her like she was some sort of prey or that she had done something bad, but at least she was able to observe how they would react to certain situations.

So far, nothing much had happened during the past 27 days where Lady Melissa spent them in solitude, all by herself, well excluding the Shayla estate's maids, and her parents (not like she even saw a glimpse of them though).

Lady Melissa was sick and tired of being in practically a solidarity prison all by herself.
