"Maybe it's because you like me, the same way that I like you too, the same way my heart tightens every time I see you, how it skips a beat."
Duke Mason said, before he soon closed the gap between him and Lady Melissa, trapping her underneath him, as she longingly stared into her eyes before she pushed him away.
She couldn't do this, not right now, especially considering what was happening, and she was sure she definitely didn't need any more emotional related problems for the time being.
"I don't like you, at least not in that way, at least not in that way."
Lady Melissa said, hoping that her statement sounded like she genuinely believed that she didn't like Duke Mason…at least not in that way; he could be dating Lady Charlotte for all she knew.
Lady Melissa couldn't believe Duke Mason's words anymore, not after the betrayal that she had faced from Duke Alphonso, her trust issues were getting worse and worse by the second.
At this point, she had been betrayed two times, both by men that she liked, and it was disappointing for her to say the least- how easily that she had been fooled by both of them.
"I'll wait, no matter how long it takes, no matter what I'll have to go through, but I'll wait till you say the same words back to me."
Duke Mason said, before he walked away from Lady Melissa, the woman left speechless in the process.
After what had felt like hours to Lady Melissa- which in reality had only been a few minutes, she came back to check up on the other nobles making sure that they were being safely escorted.
Lady Melissa tried to find Lady Charlotte, yet she wasn't able to find the woman at all, it was as if she had disappeared without a trace, as Lady Melissa already knew she was going to receive a lot of scolding tonight from her parents.
Lady Melissa didn't want to disappoint Duke Gaston, yet at the same time, she couldn't ask anybody to help her find the woman since everyone was busy getting back to their own estates.
Lady Melissa walked through the entire Trafford estate, the castle was left practically deserted as she had earlier noticed that the maids and servants had been helping the nobles.
Lady Melissa eventually found Lady Charlotte, yet she couldn't believe what she was seeing, there right in front of her eyes, was Lady Charlotte sharing an intimate kiss with none other than Duke Mason.
Duke Mason, what a joke, the man who had claimed that he had liked her, the same way that Lady Melissa liked him, yet here he was, not even a few hours later and he was already kissing another woman.
If there was anything Lady Melissa hated more than getting betrayed by the man she loved, it was getting betrayed, and lied to all in the same day by the man she loved.
It was obvious to say that Lady Melissa felt betrayed, she felt like it was an endless cycle, with her falling in love with men, before they turn out to betray her and play with her feelings all over again.
Out of the corner of his eye, Duke Mason noticed Lady Melissa, as his eyes widened, pushing off Lady Charlotte from him in the process, as Lady Melissa had already disappeared before he could even chase her.
Lady Melissa went back to Duke Gaston, feeling that at the very she had earlier noticed that the maids and servants had been helping the nobles.

Lady Melissa went back to Duke Gaston, deciding that she'd best check up on him, wondering how he was faring so far, as she let out a sigh of relief, Duke Gaston was standing, surrounded by dead people, and there was blood stained on his clothes, as Lady Melissa approached him, worried.
"Are you alright?"
Lady Melissa asked, genuinely concerned about the blood that stained Duke Gaston's clothes, wondering whether it was his, or perhaps it was someone else's blood, someone who had just so happened to be at the wrong moment at the wrong time.
"I'm fine, don't worry Lady Melissa, the blood on my clothes isn't mine, have the nobles been escorted back to safety?"
Duke Gaston asked, as Lady Melissa nodded her head, signifying a 'yes' to Duke Gaston as the man let out a satisfied smile in response before Lady Melissa decided that now would be the best time for her to ask him something that had been bothering her mind this entire time.
"Why? Why did you decide to save me? I broke the promise that we shared with each other, you could've just saved your sister and not me, but you decided to save the both of us, why? Just why did you put your life at stake for me?"
Lady Melissa asked, her tone filled with desperation, as she sounded like she NEEDED to know why Duke Gaston even did such a thing, it wasn't a question anymore, she was demanding to know the reason why the man had even saved her.
After all, Lady Melissa knew that Duke Gaston could've just gotten his sister, out of Lady Melissa's hug, and just left Lady Melissa to the dust yet he didn't do so, for once, Lady Melissa wasn't the second option, though she wasn't the first one either.
Duke Gaston had found a way, he had found a way, to be able to save all of his loved ones, and this action that he had done to protect both Lady Melissa and Lady Charlotte made Lady Melissa more and more curious.
"I'm a horrible person Duke Gaston, the both of us know it, the both of us know the dumb horrible stupid decisions that I've made, yet why did you choose to save me? When you could've just chosen to save your sister."
Lady Melissa asked, she couldn't bear not knowing the answer, not when she had thought of herself to be everyone's second choice in life, not when Duke Gaston had been the one to save her.
"Compared to you, you're a sweet, humble kind man, yet look at me right now, I'm a deranged crazy woman, I don't even act how a noble Lady is supposed to be, most of the time I even use vulgar language. So why? Why did you choose to save me?"
Lady Melissa asked as tears were threatening to fall out of her eyes.
