Xia hesitantly stretched out his hands and touched the fluffy clouds as they flew by them. Like dew drops, the clouds melted in his hands. The misty wind fluttered through his hair making it slightly wet. "I love this!" he exclaimed and hugged the huge dragon head tight.
When he was younger, his mother had brought him out to fly in her flying chariot, but the little crayfish got super sick that he puked the entire ride.
But this time it was different, Xia did not feel the overwhelming need to puke, or the disgusting feeling of bile rising through his throat. He only felt... free.
As they passed by a huge cloud, a mist of fresh breeze hit him right on his face. Xia extended his tongue out to taste this freshness. "Long~ I really really love it~" he sang as he caressed the horn he was holding onto.
The golden dragon groaned and wiggled around as it flew past a grey cloud.
"Long ah.... do I feel heavy,"
The dragon groaned and snorted another time as if saying that he was too light.
"You still can't properly talk when you are in your true form ah. That's sad, I thought we could converse as we gallivanted through the world," Xia che said in glee.
Long Aotian snorted again. He tried to talk but somehow...he was not able to form any words. Anything that came out of his mouth became groans and snickers. 'What is going on? I was able to talk so well, even when I was a little snake. Something is wrong,' he thought. But he did not show his panic, least he scared his lover.
Unknowing to the dragon, his scales were turning black.
Long did not think much. 'It's not like I'm going to be in my dragon form for long. I don't have to worry so much,' he thought as he flew faster.
The majestic view of the tall mountains stood right below them. Mountains stretching out like a painting towards the sky and hidden beneath the clouds. They were that tall and magnificent, almost having a mystic feeling to them.
Long shuddered all of a sudden. He got a weird feeling that something was terribly wrong.
Xia watched all this with rapt attention. "It's the Kulin mountain range. Mommy Yukiya once talked about it. This mountain range spreads in-between Suikal to Juikal. There have been rumors that an ancient beast lives here," He said enthusiastically.
Long glanced down as well. In many of the history books he had read about these mystic mountains. The Great War between demons and heaven happened in the human realm. Mostly near the Kulin region, so there was no wonder that it was filled with residual energy.
When they were traveling to Suikal he had felt some weird energy nearby, so they took a detour and went around this mountain range. Now that they were above it, Long felt his soul shuddering weirdly.
'I think its better we go around this mountain by foot,' he thought as he started to Descent.
"No, let's fly more," Xia giggled as he lightly pulled at the Long's horns.
Felling his lover's tug, Long stopped his Descent and flew over the mountains slowly. 'Eh, what could go wrong? It's just some mountains anyway,' he thought.
Suddenly the surrounding clouds turned grey and rumbled.
Long panicked. This was not an ordinary rain cloud. It looked more like a.... tribulation clouds. 'The last tribulation interrupted then...is this a continuation of it?' his heart trembled just thinking of such possibility.
He started to fly low again, but his little lover tugged on his horn, insisting they fly higher.
"It's going to rain!" Xia cheerfully laughed. The little crayfish had yet to gauge the severity of the situation because he was simply enjoying the ride.
The dragon flew low again. Xia tugged on his horn. "Higher long~ higher... I want to be able to see these mountains from high above," he said.
Thunder fumed right at this second, scaring the poor crayfish. He held on tightly to his little dragon and glanced around at the grey clouds. "Is there going to be a thunderstorm?" he whispered in shock. If they were caught in the thunderstorm so high above them, they would be burned to crisp even with the shield surrounding them.
"Long, get low. Let's walk the rest of the way," he shouted.
The dragon agreed and started flying low. A flash of lightning flew past them right then. The dragon twisted its huge body and dodged the blow. He made sure not to make too many drastic movements as his beloved was still riding on him.
"Long! To the right!" Xia shouted as he held tightly onto the horn. The dragon dodged another lighting flying their way. Xia's heart pounded as he glanced up at the somber-looking clouds. "This is not right. Why is it aiming at us?" he whispered.
Right then, his small chain-mail glove trembled in anticipation.
Xia glanced at it with a frown. "Will you be able to absorb the lighting?" he whispered.
The glove trembled again. This time it looked very excited.
The huge clouds rumbled and growled as if an ancient beast was walking up from its slumber. a golden glow shimmered in-between the crevices, warning them of the upcoming danger.
"A golden lightning! Oh lord, this is bad, "Xia fretted. He glanced at the rusted glove, then at the looming clouds. 'Will it be able to deflect it like the last time? But a golden lightning is more powerful than a Kirin's attack. Would it be able to protect us?' he doubtfully glanced at the glove.
If the attack is not stopped in time, then both of them would be mortally wounded and Xia could... lose his hand even.
'Still.... I've got to try it. Otherwise....' he glanced down at the little dragon under him. He softly caressed his shiny scales and whispered, "I will protect you, Aotian. I always will,"
Right then, the lighting gushed out and rushed towards them.
Xia lifted his gloved hands and accepted it.
The dragon that was speechless till now shouted "Xiaaa!" loudly. But his lover was already entangled with a golden lightning to listen to his screams.
Xia held onto his right hand and held it steady as he received the upcoming lighting. Screams of agony and wretched pain flew out of his mouth. It felt like his skin was burned and torn apart bit by bit and being reformed.
The lightning pierced through his skin, burning his tendon. Xia screamed out loud but the glove.....it started glowing red. It devoured the lighting at a fast pace, but even that could stop it from descending on poor Xia.
"Xia!" Long shouted. He could not even glance back because his lover was sitting on his head. So he twisted around, brought his tail to him and hugged him into a ball. His tail was the main reason they could fly, since he rolled himself into a ball he was not able to stay in the sky for long.
He descended at a high speed. This time he created a shield around them. But the lighting was resilient. It strikes them again with the same intensity burning thought some of his scales.
Nothing mattered, only his lover's safety was his main concern, so he compressed the shield so that it only covered his beloved.
"Xia" he whispered, but he had long lost his consciousness. They both flew right above the top of the Kulin Mountain, but he still did not have the time to observe his lover's wounds before the next lightening strikes.
This time the golden lightening had a tinge of purple in it. "Shit," Long cussed and lifted his lover up. He had to find a cover fast or else they might even be burned into ashes.
He regretted flying now. They could have very well walked all over to Nevada but they had to make haste so he thought that flying was convenient. 'It is not the time to regret. I need to find a cover fast.' He thought as he flew along. The lighting followed his path and fell on the ground behind him.
The ground shattered into pieces, creating a small crater in its wake.
Long flew without looking back.
Suddenly the path in front of him warped weirdly. 'a spatial distortion?' he thought. A spatial distortion was a disturbance caused in many realms that combine them all. Sometimes it might send them to the heavens realm sometime to the raging depths of the Rakshasa/devil's realm. Long did not know where the one would take him. But looking back at the looming thunder clouds, he did not think more.
But Long did not stop, he rushed directly towards it. The space warped around them and completely devoured their presence. The world spun around and Long lost his consciousness.
The thunder clouds slowly dissipated as if it were just an illusion as soon as Long and Xia disappeared.
