Chapter 268 - 268 - A Trap

Aotian along with his brother Ki and Raijin moved forward whist a small group escorted Felia over to the heaven's realm. She waved her sorrowful goodbyes and receded into the dangerous territory.

They set up camp swiftly. Raijin speared out the map and marked the areas where he had charted. "These places are filled with small rank Rakshasa. A few of our squadron members are enough to take them down, but the stronger ones must be residing deep within. Like the honey comb, the powerful and dangerous ones still reside next to the Rakshasa gate."

Ki slightly frowned and glanced at Aotian. "Shall we split and conquer."

"I suggest not. As per our observation this there is only a speculation. We are not yet sure if the dangerous ones are still close to the gates. Right now they might have to venture farther. If we separate our squadrons, it will not be easy to deal with them;" Aotian whispered peering intently at the map. His other hand gently played with the small tassel on his sword handle.

"Shall I scout further in?" Raijin asked them, waiting for their orders.

Ki shook his head. "Not now. We should all move together. Little by little we shall conquer it. Raijin also finds me someone specialising in enchantments. We need to seal the gate as soon as possible."

Long Aotian leaned forward with a thoughtful look. "The great mages created the gates. Would anyone be able to replicate the spell?"

"All we can do is try." Ki massaged his brows. "Any news on the seven demon lords?"

"We lost contract of the demon king Lian Hua as soon as he moved closer to the gates. Even heaven's realm cannot monitor anything close there. I believe... he has passed."

Aotian sat up. "Well, I don't believe so. He is my lover's fath.... no he is my close acquaintance. He is not that easy to take down."

"I believe your word, brother, but the facts turn out to be different. The seven demon lords disappeared out of thin air. Either they have gone back to the demon world or they got incinerated whist trying to keep the doo close."

Ki slowly tried to explain. But Aotian was not having it.

"Sigh, let's not talk about the demon lords now. Raijin, how is the situation in other gates."

Raijin swiftly flipped through the scrolls and took out one. "With the demon lords gone, there is chaos everywhere. But it is juts panic. The main source of problem arose because there is a food shortage nearby and human went on a rampage,"

Aotian scoffed. "The seasonal rains were good this year why are they having trouble with their crops?"

"because..... humans were too obsessed with the dragon hunt that many farmers turned into mercenaries. Many lands went useless because of prolonged lack of cultivation," Raijin whispered with a small awkward smirk.

Aotian leaned back with his eyes closed. "So now this is our fault as well."

"The human kings decided to throw all the blame onto you both for their negligence. Now they are cussing at heaven's realm..... overall things are not going well,"

Ki mediated the meeting slowly. "Let's first deal with the demons then we shall answer to the human's greed. I'll send my first squadron along with yours. Good brother?"

"Yes, I shall take lead of both of them," Aotian whispered, sitting up straight again.

Long Ki frowned deeply. "You can't risk yourself like this,"

"I wish to go back to my darling mate, my brother. I do not wish to miss out on any of his pregnancy stages. I don't wish for him to sleep alone in a cold bed. So I want to get this over with as fast as we can."

Aotian gently caressed the small braided hair in the tassel. "I wish to see my Xia's beautiful smile."

"It's not that simple. If we were capable of dealing with the Rakshasa, we could have easily done so many years ago. But they are tricky Aotian. You can't throw yourself in dangerous situations, be patient,"

"Well, my patience sailed away with that ship. I am going in." he rushed out of the tent. "Squadron 1 and 2 under my command! We shall take this place down!!!"

The soldiers all cheered loudly.

Long Ki just sighed watching this. "Raijin, I know it's too much to ask..."

"I shall protect him. Don't worry. I will do my at most to protect him, master," Raijin smiled at him.

Lon Ki hugged him and patted his shoulders tightly. "Protect yourself as well; you have a mate waiting for you back home."

Raijin blushed slightly. "Yeah, I will. You should keep safe as well master,"

The soldiers marched into the forest of the island whist a small group of soldiers and Long Ki waited for their news on the shores. This was a failsafe. In case they do not return they would; return to heaven's realm and inform about their demise and to send backup.

The most important reason though it's because long Ki was the crown prince.

Ki sighed even louder. "I wish I could fight with you, brother. I wish I could,"

Long Aotian marched in. Few smaller Rakshasas attacked them now and then but they were easily deal by their special soldiers.

Even he thought that taking both squadrons was overkill for this mission.

They slowly infiltrated the forest, reaching its core little by little.

The black, ominous light from the Rakshasa gate was getting brighter.

"We are getting close. Stand guard,"

Everyone tightly clenched their weapons and vigilantly watched their backs.

They moved step by step until they reached a stage. There was a huge arched gate on its floor with his doors wide open.

The dark light was emitting from inside.

Long Aotian's worry intensified. "Search the area carefully!! Split into teams of five!"

The soldiers rushed around, but there was no trace of Rakshasas anywhere.

"Where... are the Rakshasas"

Right then, Aotian noticed something.

The huge enchantment from the door was shining onto the cloud above.

"No.... no.. this can't be happening. Fall back!!"

Raijin ran to him. "What's wrong?"

"It's bad.. Rakshasas' target was the heavens realm not human realm. We have fallen into a trap,"
