VINCE's POV
I was brought back to the present when I heard my phone ringing. It was Edward.
"Hello?"
"Bro, we have a problem."
"What?"
"A hospital called our HR department informing us that Ms. Yvory was involved in a car accident and is now in the hospital."
I was terrified upon hearing the information so I immediately stood up and walked towards the elevator door.
"What hospital, Ed?"
"ABC Hospital."
"Thanks, Ed. But can you tell me what happened?"
"Well, I don't really know the details because I just received the call and I immediately decided to give you a call."
"Don't go to the hospital. Instead go directly to the police station and find out what happened."
"Okay. Bro, be careful in driving, okay?"
"I got it, Ed."
I got to the parking lot in no time and started my car's engine. I told Yve to be cautious in driving. I was so worried so I did my very best to reach the hospital as soon as possible. When I reached the hospital, I immediately went to the front desk to ask about Yve. The receptionist told me that she was still in the Recovery room and I have to go to the Emergency Department to talk to the doctor on duty so I ran.
Upon arriving there, I was entertained by a nurse and I told her that I am the guardian of Yve. She let me in and I was told to wait in that area for the doctor. I asked about Yve's condition and she said that for now her life isn't in danger anymore but for better explanation the doctor will talk to me.
After a few minutes, a tall and young man in a doctor's white coat came inside the room.
"You must be the guardian of Ms. Yvory Smith."
"Yes, I am. How is she?"
"Yes, my name is Dr. Steven Moore. Please have a seat."
"Well for now, you don't have to worry because her life is safe."
Upon hearing this news, I was so relieved and the thought of wanting to see her already came to my mind.
"However, Mr…."
"Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Mr. Vincent Gray."
"How are you related to Ms. Smith?"
"I'm his boyfriend. Her parents are dead with no siblings so technically I am the guardian."
"Okay. So you probably know what happen to her."
Is there something wrong with her? What should I tell the doctor. Ughh, I should have just read the envelope Ed gave me earlier.
"Well, I was away for quite awhile. A long distance relationship you can say."
"Well, Mr. Gray, I am a little doubtful about your relationship…"
"I understand, Dr. Moore, but I can assure you I am not a bad person. You can check my details through the Internet."
"Can you give me an ID then."
"Sure."
I replied and gave my ID. The information must be very important and somehow I don't find his security measures annoying. I felt that I can trust this doctor. After a few minutes, he returned my card and said,
"I am very sorry, Mr. Gray."
"It's fine. No harm has been done. Anyway, can we proceed to the matter at hand?"
"Of course."
He pulled out a large envelope for x-ray films and a folder which I assumed contain Yve's result. Dr. Moore then placed the film in a light to show the x-ray results of different body parts.
"Mr. Gray.." He began.
"As of the moment, Ms. Smith is sleeping and we just need to wait for her to wake up to make sure that nothing is wrong with her because of the accident. However, after seeing the results, it seemed that this was not her first car accident."
"What do you mean?"
"Please look at the feet and hand x-ray films. On the left are the normal result while on the other side are from Ms. Smith."
I thoroughly looked and found some differences. "Dr. Moore…."
"Yes, her feet recovered well but I can't say about her hand. For the most, she can perform the basic skills needed but as far as her hobbies, do you have any idea?"
"Yes. She loves to play the keyboard and was aiming to be a surgeon someday."
"Well, with these hands, it would be impossible. Her hands can't be moved in a fast beat needed in some song pieces and aren't steady enough as a surgeon's hands."
"So, you're saying…."
"Mr. Gray, these are the two things which we need to check as soon as she wakes up. Bones recovered after a therapy are sensitive and any accident may cause an irreversible effect."
"Are you saying that she might be immobilized?!"
"We don't know that for sure, Mr. Gray. I am just indicating the possibility."
I don't know what to feel. There was a mix of anger, fear and love. I just can't explain it.
"So what should we do?" I asked the doctor.
"For now, you should admit her to the hospital and let's wait for her to wake up."
"Okay, then. I will do that."
"This way then, Mr.. Gray for the admission process."
I followed the doctor and went to the admission department and filled in the necessary information. Afterwards, I went to her room where I saw her, sleeping calmly. There are bruises on her right arm and a small bandage on her forehead. I even can't believe my eyes. She was just fine this morning.
I sat beside her and took her hand, while saying,
"Please wake up soon and I promise you I will never leave you behind."
I picked up my phone and called Edward.
"Bro, I just finished…."
I didn't let him finish and said,
"Come to the ABC Hospital, room 702. I need to talk to you and bring me a copy of the files you have about Yve's past."
"But I ga….."
"I haven't read it yet. If you can't produce a copy then just tell me what happened as soon as you arrive here in the hospital."
"Okay, I'll be there before you know it."
I ended the phone call and looked at Yve.
