23 Waking Up

VINCE's POV

I was recalling everything that happened today. I have my own regrets. If I didn't let her go home alone, this accident will not happen. It's all my fault.

"Bro!" It was Edward.

"Oh, you're here." I was shocked when he suddenly came.

"How is she?"

"Well, for now, her life isn't in danger. But we don't know for sure. We can verify everything as soon as she wakes up."

"Well, that's good for now, considering how her car looked like." Ed said and hands me 2 envelopes.

"The other one is the latest report about the accident and while the other contains her past. But before we talk about that…. How are you?"

"Me?! I'm perfectly fine." I look at him so confused by his question. Why is he asking me when obviously nothing is wrong with me.

"Physically yes but emotionallyI don't think you are doing well."

"WHA…."

"You're blaming yourself for what had happened to her, right?"

I took a deep breath and look at him intently. Why can't I hide anything from him? Am I like an open book? He really knows me well which is why I want him as my right hand.

"Yeah… You can say that."

"Bro, it's not your fault. As you want to take things slowly, you can't impose to have someone guarding her. And it was an accident."

"Was it really an accident, Ed?"

"What do you mean?"

"The doctor said that based on her x-ray result, this was not her first time to encounter an accident which is why the doctor is more cautious about her case."

"Does it…?"

"Yes. Everything that happened are too convenient to be considered an accident."

"So…."

"Can you elaborate first what happened today?"

"Okay. So, let's start first with what happened based on the bystanders."

Ed began his report as I listened to his every explanation. I found it difficult to believe that Yve will not notice that the traffic light turned red which meant for her to stop her car. I was thinking that maybe her car was tampered to begin with, so I asked Ed,

"What about her car?"

"I know what you're thinking. But as of the moment, it is still under investigation. The police said that it might take awhile though. I gave my contact number and told them to call me as soon as there are new development with regards to the case."

"How about the truck driver's statement and other evidence?"

"Well, everything coincides with the witnesses. Yvory's saving grace would be if her car is tampered." I nodded at what Ed was explaining.

"But no one was injured aside from her?"

"Well, the truck driver had small bruises but after thorough tests everything was fine."

"Okay, that's good."

"Now, how about her past? What happened to her?"

I was very curious on what happened to her and I really want to know. Even if I promised myself that I would wait for her to tell me the truth but I just can't. Not with all the things that are happening now. I hope Yve will forgive me.

"Hmmmmm….."

I looked at Yve and noticed that she is tilting her head left and right so I walk closer to her and hold her hand.

"Yve, Yve?" I called her name.

"Hmmmm…" Was her only response.

A few moments later, she opened her eyes and wants to sit when she lost her balance and lied down on her bed again. She was touching her forehead.

"Are you okay, Yve?"

"I feel so dizzy." She answered.

"Edward call the doctor." I told Ed.

"Okay." was his only reply and he went out of the room.

"Yve, Yve, can you see me?"

"Vince? Is that you?"

"Yes, it's me. Do you need anything?" I answered and asked her while holding her hand.

"My eyes are little blurry. Can you turn off some of the lights?"

"Ahh, yes."

I immediately turned off some of the lights. It has been a condition in her eyes which were discovered when she was young. This was the reason why she was wearing contact lens during day time. After turning it off, I sat beside her.

"How does it feel?" I asked her.

"Much better now. I can see you well. What happened and where am I?"

"You are in the hospital. You were in an accident. Do you remember?"

"Yeah, I think so. Ughh… It hurts."

"Wait, I will call the doctor….."

I ran towards the door and as I opened it, I saw doctor and let him in. The doctor examined her.

"How is she?" I asked the doctor.

"Well so far her vital signs are normal and everything is responsive."

"But why does she feel dizzy?"

"It could be caused by her abrupt movement when she woke up. But to make sure, I will schedule her for a CT scan."

"Okay. That's good then."

"But now, I need to ask the patient some confidential information like her medical history so maybe Mr. Gray and his assistant can leave me and the patient alone?"

With that cue in mind, we were about the leave when Yve said,

"Doctor, can you just let them stay? I think I will be more at ease if Vince is here."

"But….."

"It's okay. I can tell him anything and everything."

I was happy to know that she trusts me enough to let me know everything that they will talk about.

"Before that, Doctor, can she eat anything?" I asked the doctor.

"Yes, but I would suggest food with soup."

"Do you want to eat anything?" I asked Yve.

"But it's already late. I don't think you can find anything."

"It's fine. Edward can do some tricks." I answered like looking at Edward.

"Yes, Yvory. Please trust me."

"Okay…. I want….."

"Come on, don't be shy about it. Trust me, Edward is my cousin and my right hand. He is very capable."

"Then, can I bother you to bring me pork steak then….Doc, will that be fine?"

"Yes."

"Then, I will see you in a bit." With that Edward was out of the hospital.

"Okay. So now, we will talk about the things I saw in your x-ray results."
