As the sun rose over the City of Amarthea the next morning, the little girl of the St. Claire family was already dressed and ready to head out.
She would be meeting her trainer after a long separation due to the plague and its following events.
Hence she was both excited and anxious to see what he had in store for her.
During the lockdown period, she had been training with her brother and Jax while the Earl would often come over to give them his guidance.
Even the secret guards operating under the Earl would also watch over their training when their Master was busy with other matters.
Thus she had gained a large amount of experience after learning from these different people who possessed a vast variety of skills and techniques and were happy to teach her and her elder brother.
With such enthusiasm and confidence in her demeanor, Yvonne made her way to the training grounds that had been built for her and her brother to practice at.
However, before she could even exit the mansion, she found a group of people already waiting outside for her.
The two butlers of this mansion, Limo, and Jax stood at the side and bowed to her when they saw her arriving ahead of time for her classes with her trainer.
Yvonne nodded at them before her eyes fell on the rest present here.
Her father gave her a swift nod which was void of the doting smile he often displayed to her.
This reminded her that he was still mad at her for the stunt she had pulled in an attempt to get out of meeting the King.
The punishment he had promised to give her had not yet been announced.
However, she knew that he would announce his verdict soon enough so she decided to not mention it now and get punished earlier than expected.
'It would be better if he forgets about it altogether.' She hoped but sighed because that was just her wishful thinking.
Next to her father was her uncle who smiled at her as he was still unaware of the cold war between the Earl and his daughter.
The twins and Howard were also present and Yvonne could only shake her head when she saw the glint of excitement that passed their eyes.
The last time that she had visited the Valente fief, she had heard something about these siblings which helped her understand why they looked like they were eager to head over to the training area.
The Valente twins were huge fans of Captain Desmo Reel, just like Howard and when they heard that the Captain would be training their little sister this morning, they had decided to come over and watch their idol from afar.
To gain guidance from him would be a blessing but for now, they would be happy to greet him and watch how he taught their sister from the sidelines.
Yvonne did not object when she saw the group was interested in joining her but her eyes fell on her father.
In the beginning, the Earl had promised to not attend any of the training sessions when the Captain had agreed to take her under his tutelage.
However, it looked like Rutherford was not willing to abide by his words and would follow them over to the training area.
Therefore, Yvonne too did not interfere and walked with them to the designated training grounds.
Her lips curved into a smile when she saw her etcher waiting for her on the grazing field which was close to their usual training area.
Looking around, she found that the Captain had not yet come over which made her wonder if he had forgotten about their classes.
After over a year they would be training together but the other man had failed to make it at the appointed time.
Noticing her furrowed brows, Rutherford decided to ease the troubles that she seemed to be having right now.
"Don't worry. Des will be here soon." He assured her as they had spoken the previous night.
This was also why he was coming over to the training ground, disregarding the previous promise made between the two.
Hearing these words, Yvonne paused for a second before nodding at him.
'Must have slept in.' She scoffed at the man who always mocked her the few times that she had been late but he had done the same today.
However, they did not have to wait for long when they heard the sounds of loud galloping coming in their direction.
Riding on a pure white horse, the man she called her trainer was heading their way.
Roman and Knox marveled at the glorious sight before them as they stared at him without blinking, afraid to miss the scene before them.
Howard too had stars in his gaze as he admired the man whose skills were worthy of being looked up to.
Among the two men, Rutherford rolled his eyes at the attention-grabbing entrance that his old friend had made while Marcus Valente observed him silently.
'He teaches my niece?' He chose to gauge him and his methods before deciding how to react to this situation.
Finally, like father like daughter, Yvonne too rolled her eyes at the man who was arriving fashionably late and even in such a grandiose manner.
When Captain Desmo came to a halt before them, the boys were staring at him but his attention was on his pupil.
His judging eyes scanned her body and nodded when he saw that she had not gotten into worse shape during the time they could not train together.
"Ten laps, go!" He spat out and knew that his pupil would not need more explanation about what he had just said.
As expected, Yvonne let out a grunt of dissatisfaction but did not disobey him.
Rutherford was the only one whose brows furrowed in anger at his friend while the rest remained confused about what the man meant by those words.
In the next second, they noticed that the little girl standing with them had left their side and was already onto the training field.
Yvonne was already used to running around the training field for years now as this was their warm-up exercise but had been slacking during the lockdown.
Therefore, she initially struggled before finally getting the hang of it as she had done the same too many times in the past.
The twins and Uncle Marcus had been waiting to see what kind of training this Captain of the Red Scorpion Knights would give to the little girl but never had they imagined that he would ask her to run laps around this vast ground.
However, that same child had not objected to his command and began to run at a steady pace.
In no time, Yvonne had completed the ten laps as the rest watched with sadness in their eyes.
Roman and Knox had heard about the man called 'Neo's Spawn' but they were under the impression that he would go easy on the little girl.
However, the reality varied from their expectations as he treated her the same without being lenient towards her.
What they did not know was that despite looking stern and mean, Captain Desmo was indeed being lenient towards her as she would never be able to withstand the true training that his recruits in the Red Scorpion Knight squad faced every day.
Yvonne too knew this but had asked him to help her push her limits which might allow her to progress at a faster pace.
Thus the rest felt that he was being unreasonable with his orders but neither he nor Yvonne had any objections to his method of teaching.
Captain Desmo had already mentioned that he would not change the way he taught her even if his old friend Ford were to interfere in it.
Therefore, while they watched in silence, he and his pupil continued their basic training as they would in the past.
An hour passed and finally, their class came to an end.
Jax headed to his Boss and handed her the glass of water that he had already prepared for her.
Captain Reel watched as she gulped the water down and waited for her to calm her breathing before he could converse with her.
"You've improved." He praised her which managed to widen her eyes.
The man who was stingy with his compliments had given one to her after a long time so Yvonne could not help but smile in response.
"Many people helped me." She responded, not amassing the credit for this praise but mentioning that there were others who had helped her reach this outcome.
Captain Reel rolled his eyes at her obedient and virtuous ways before glancing at those around them.
While she had been training, Ford had introduced them to him and they had even conversed a little.
However, he did not like mingling with people too much and only spoke if the other person shared the same interests as him.
Since Viscount Marcus Valente wasn't someone who had a great interest in these matters and was much more invested in business matters, the two had nothing much in common to talk about.
He could also sense that the Viscount wasn't too happy with him and he also knew the reason for this.
'She manages to get people onto her side as always.' Captain Desmo glanced at his pupil with a sneer.
Thinking of what he had heard last night and this morning from the men in his squadron, he realized that saying so would be an understatement.
Yvonne had no clue about the thoughts in her trainer's mind as she was focusing on another matter.
Her first class of the day had just come to an end and once she freshened up and had her breakfast, the next classes would soon begin.
'Time to meet the betrayer is drawing closer..' She narrowed her eyes as her hands clenched into fists.
