It felt as if it had been centuries since I last saw them, and then they miraculously appeared in front of me all of a sudden, and for that, I was extremely grateful.
Then, I saw Zhu Xuan behind them. Zhu Xuan’s expression was as usual, calm like the unmoving surface of a lake, and you could not see any difference. However, his left hand was pressed on his right shoulder——where the empty sleeve was hurtful to look at.
Zhu Xuan’s arm was… I felt an overwhelming hatred and anger in my chest. I turned around and wanted to punch Xu Yingchen in the face. But I found out that Xu Yingchen, who was supposed to be behind me, was gone.
“What are you doing?” Zhu Xuan asked, his eyebrows knitted.
“He… Xu Yingchen,” I stuttered and pointed behind me. “He was just there. You must have seen him while you were coming over! But now, now…”
Su Xiaoyun came closer and stared at me with a strange expression. She waved her hand in front of my eyes. “Are you okay? Did you get traumatized or something? ”
“What?” I swatted her hand away. “I’m fine! You can ask Shi Yitong and Zhu Xuan, it is true——”
“We didn’t see him,” Zhu Xuan said. “We saw you talking to yourself, that’s why we called you.”
Huh? I looked at the place where Xu Yingchen was. Did that mean… I just saw a hallucination?
“Be careful. He may have used a spell to bewitch you; that guy is very cunning,” Zhu Xuan said sternly.
It was painful to look at Zhu Xuan’s arm; I shook my head to clear those thoughts out of my head.
“Anyway, now is not the time to think about that. The sky suddenly became dark and a huge tornado appeared. And I have no idea where Wen Jiubo is.” I ran my hand through my already messy hair. “What the hell is going on?”
“He set a huge magic barrier that covered the entire city. Now the whole city is under his control.” Zhu Xuan shook his head. “I heard that the Taoist priest Lingxiao is a very radical exorcist. He stubbornly believes that all monsters in this world are evil. Not only that, he even believes that human beings are evil. Now that he has finally gained enough power, he must have decided to seize this opportunity and get rid of every monster in the city. Gu Yu, look.”
I looked in the direction Zhu Xuan pointed. That horrible black tornado was still there, like a silent giant. Then, the giant suddenly let out a roar, and the ground began to shake. A black tentacle slowly grew out of the tornado and slammed onto the ground.
Suddenly, all the demons, spirits and monsters near the tentacle were instantly sucked into it. Their sharp screams were so loud that they almost deafened me.
“Can’t they hear it?” I was surprised that people around me were still standing on the street, talking to each other as if nothing happened.
“They can’t hear it.” Zhu Xuan shook his head. “But that doesn’t mean that they’re safe.”
As Zhu Xuan said that, another tentacle smashed down towards us.
“Look out!” Zhu Xuan grabbed me with one hand, while Shi Yitong protected Su Xiaoyuan as we ran to a safe area.
The tentacle smashed the tarmac street and left a deep crack on the road.
“AHHHH——!!”
The crowd panicked as they screamed and immediately ran for their lives. However, for many people, it was too late.
Many pedestrians and cars fell into the crack. All I could hear were the screams of people and ghosts.
However, we had no time to worry about others. We had to grab onto poles and fences so we wouldn’t fall into the crack as well.
“That Xu Yingchen! He’ll kill not only every demon and spirit, but also every human being!” I shouted in the wind.
“I don’t think he cares!” Su Xiaoyun shouted back. “Gu Yu, you need to find Wen Jiubo; he is Xu Yingchen’s main target, isn’t he?”
I was taken aback since I tried so hard to keep the truth from them, but somehow, they had still found out.
“Oh, don’t be surprised, Zhu Xuan has told us everything!” Shi Yitong used both of his hands to grab the pole so the raging wind wouldn’t push him into the road fissure. “Otherwise, why do you think we are here?!”
Before I could say something, I heard Su Xiaoyun’s scream, “Zhu Xuan!”
I turned around and found that the fence Zhu Xuan had grabbed onto had begun to fracture because of the crumbling ground, and he was about to fall into that black tornado.
However, all of a sudden, a shimmering white halo emitted from him, and the light almost eclipsed the dark tornado; it was so bright that I had to close my eyes. After a few seconds, I heard an animal’s roar.
Before I could understand what was happening, my body was thrown upwards, and in the next second, I found I was sitting on something furry. I opened my eyes and found out that I was on Bai Ze’s back, and I immediately grabbed his white fur. Then one after the other, he threw Shi Yitong and Su Xiaoyun on his back as well.
“Hold tight!” I immediately realized what Bai Ze was going to do and shouted at Shi Yitong and Su Xiaoyun.
The giant beast Bai Ze jumped over the huge crack and avoided the attacks of the tornado tentacles, then he carried us straight towards the center of the tornado.
Before I could thank Zhu Xuan, I was shocked by the direction in which he was moving.
“Hey, Zhu Xuan, where are you taking us?” I hurriedly asked.
“Yeah, why are you running towards the tornado?” Su Xiaoyun echoed, her eyes wide open. “It’ll blow us all away!”
“That is not a tornado at all!” Bai Ze jumped over the streets and told us. “The tornado was made by the beast Nian. The beast itself has no physical body, so if it wants to enter into our realm, it must create a huge tornado. The Taoist priest Lingxiao must be in the tornado, and if my guess is right, so is the fox!”
“But… but the beast Nian will be there too!” Shi Yitong shouted desperately. “We will be torn into pieces before we find him!”
“The most dangerous place is also the safest one!” Bai Ze shouted. “You just hold tight and leave everything else to me!”
