Chapter 18 Storm Eye

Before we could understand what he meant, Bai Ze leaped up in the air! As if I was on a roller coaster, I started to feel nauseous. I could not do anything except tightly grab his fur.

Su Xiaoyun kept screaming, and Shi Yitong’s face was as pale as white paper. The wind blew fiercely, and Bai Ze became the most visible target of the black tornado.

I crouched on his back and suddenly saw a tentacle attacking from our right. I shouted, “Look out! Our right! ”

Bai Ze jumped forward and barely avoided the attack, and then rushed towards the tornado at lightning speed.

We breathed a sigh of relief and thought that we were finally safe. Suddenly the black tornado twisted in a bizarre shape as though it was enraged.

Countless wind blades swirled around the tornado, roaring fiercely. Then, as if following someone’s order, they all flew towards Bai Ze.

We’re done for, we’re definitely going to die. I thought desperately. I knew that I shouldn’t have agreed with this crazy idea from the beginning!

However, as if he read my thoughts, Bai Ze shouted, “It’s still too early to be defeatist! Just hold on tight!”

After saying that, Bai Ze let out a roar that was so ferocious that it could shock the world, and it rushed straight towards those black wind blades. Then, I could finally see clearly that those wind blades weren’t made of wind at all, but were made of black effluvium. It seemed that these strands of effluvium had lives; they flew in the air as if they were hunting for prey.

“Hold your breath!” Su Xiaoyun was the first to notice that. She covered Shi Yitong’s nose with her hand and blinked at me to warn me.

“Huh?” I did not understand.

“Don’t breathe!” she said angrily. “I don’t have another hand to help you!”

It was only then that I understood. Things had happened too quickly for me to catch on; I quickly covered my nose and mouth with my hand.

Bai Ze rushed over. He roared and began to attack those black strands of effluvium with his mouth and sharp claws. Soon, most of the effluvium was torn into pieces and disappeared.

However, even so, the tornado was releasing more and more strands of effluvium, and even though Bai Ze was powerful, he was outnumbered. Countless blades flew over and trapped us in the middle. They sliced Bai Ze’s white fur and stabbed into his flesh. Blood splashed out, and Bai Ze groaned in pain.

No, if this continues, even if he is the divine beast Bai Ze——he won’t be able to endure for long! I was anxious, even though it might jeopardize my own life, I still made my choice. I must do something to help Zhu Xuan!

I let go of its fur and struggled to stand up on his back. “Zhu Xuan! Step back!”

Su Xiaoyan screamed, “What are you doing?!”

Bai Ze also looked back in shock. I saw him bare his teeth to warn me, “Do you want to die?”

“It’s too late! You have to trust me!” I said anxiously as I took out the green fan. The wind was so strong that my hair and clothes were all in a mess. It would not take long for this black evil tornado to swallow us.

“Fine!” Bai Ze finally agreed. He moved several steps back to make some space for me to wield my power.

At that moment, weird spells appeared in my head again. Even though I had no idea why I knew those spells, it seemed that I was born with those memories.

“I invoke you. Hear my plea through the lights. My power combined with your everlasting energy, around me, around thee, protect me, protect thee. With these words of power, banish all evil away from me! ”

The moment I finished the spell, the green fan glowed with bright light, and then strands of light shot out towards the black strands of effluvium like thousands of knives. Once the lights faded, the black effluvium around us shattered into pieces like glass.

Su Xiaoyun and Shi Yitong stared at me, dumbfounded. Even Bai Ze was shocked. He muttered, “Gu Yu, you… are you…”

“Look!” At this moment, Shi Yitong shouted, “There is something behind us!”

It was not the right time to talk. Bai Ze groaned. “Hold tight!”

“Wait, where are we going?” Shi Yitong asked in a trembling voice.

Bai Ze glanced at him and answered, “Inside the tornado!”

“Wh-what?!”

Before Shi Yitong could refute, Bai Ze leaped up in the air once again and dodged the wind blades and ghosts that followed behind and rushed straight towards the tornado!

“We are going to die ahhhh!” as Shi Yitong screamed, Bai Ze plunged into the black smoke.

The roaring of the wind, the scream of Shi Yitong, and Bai Ze’s growl all vanished the moment we entered the tornado.

As if I was thrown in a warm sea, I could not see or hear anything.

I never felt such a sense of liberation, as if nothing in the world could restrict me. My body slowly sunk deeper and deeper into the sea…

It was so dark that I couldn’t see anything around. It seemed that my consciousness also gradually disappeared in the darkness, and my mind began to shut down.

It was so warm here. How long could I stay here? It felt like I was once again in my mother’s belly, soaking in warm amniotic fluid.

I wish I don’t need to leave. But…

“Gu Yu! Hey, Gu Yu! ” This was Su Xiaoyun’s voice.

“Is he okay? Did he pass out? Should I conduct CPR?” This was Shi Yitong’s voice.

What? CPR?

I immediately sat up and opened my eyes. Su Xiaoyun and Shi Yitong, who were around me, were startled by my sudden move, and they took two steps back.

“You’re fine!” Su Xiaoyun breathed a sigh of relief and then complained, “Don’t scare us like that! We thought you passed out!”

“What happened?” I pressed on my temples and felt a little confused. “Where are we? What happened? ”

“Did you hit your head?” Shi Yitong carelessly sat by my side. “Did you forget? We’re in the center of the tornado. Why else would it be so dark here? ”

As Shi Yitong said that, I noticed that we were in a completely dark space. Su Xiaoyun and Shi Yitong used the flashlight on their mobile phones to light this place up. I hurriedly took out my phone but found that the screen was broken.

By the light of their phones, I found that Zhu Xuan had turned back to his human form; he was lying on the ground, his body covered in blood.

His appearance was so miserable that when I saw him, I thought that he was dead. I instantly ran over.

“Zhu Xuan, Zhu Xuan! Are you okay? Wake up! Please don’t die!”

“I’m fine, I’m fine! Why are you cursing me?” Zhu Xuan opened his eyes and rolled his eyes at me. “If this was enough to kill me, I wouldn’t be worthy to be called the divine beast.”

I breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, judging from his tone, he seemed fine. However, even though he lost an arm and suffered several injuries, he still acted as if nothing happened. I really did not know whether I should appreciate his bravery or show sympathy.

“They’re just flesh wounds, they’ll heal soon,” Zhu Xuan said lightly and stood up.

Your injuries won’t heal so soon, okay? —— I swallowed those words back.

“Did you hit your head?” Zhu Xuan poked my head with his finger and said, “You passed out after we arrived and we waited a long time for you to wake up. Do you have a concussion?”

“What are you talking about?” I pushed Zhu Xuan’s hand away as I looked around. However this whole place was as dark as night, so I couldn’t see anything. However, if you listened carefully, you could hear the wind whistling, and it seemed that the wind came from somewhere far away.

“Are we really in the middle of the tornado?” I asked.

“Yes,” Zhu Xuan answered succinctly. He took out his phone to illuminate the surrounding area. “But as I said before, this is not a tornado but a storm caused by the beast Nian who is tearing through time and space. So it would be more accurate to say that we’re in the belly of the beast Nian.”

A chill suddenly ran down my spine, and Shi Yitong screamed, “The belly of the beast Nian? Wait, can you explain that? Are we in the belly of a monster now? ”

I didn’t understand why Zhu Xuan found Shi Yitong’s words so funny as he burst into laughter after hearing them. He completely ignored our nervousness.

“Well, you’re not totally wrong,” Zhu Xuan said with a smile. “If you define the beast Nian as a monster, then we are indeed in the belly of the monster. However, on the other hand, we’re now at the intersection between the third and fourth dimension, which is a gap that separates us from the real world.”

Shi Yitong was confused. “What? No, dude, did you take your medicine today? We’re talking about a monster here, not a sci-fi movie!”
