Chapter 184 - The Other Space

Cheng Xiu blinked as San Zhe and Yaksha disappeared from her sight.

She looked around in confusion. She was still in the same space as before. The long corridor stretched out in front of her, lit by the wooden torches.

Cheng Xiu frowned. Both of her male teammates were gone.

The one who broke the rule was not her though, so why did they disappear?

Her thoughts cleared immediately. She was the one who should have disappeared. Since that was the case, the place that she stood should be an illusion or maybe a different space to the one from before.

She looked around. There was no marked difference between this corridor and the one that she stood in before with the boys. Cheng Xiu decided to just walk forwards. There was no way that she would gain anything by standing here alone.

The second that she took a step forwards, Cheng Xiu's intuition flared.

She ducked.

An arrow flew past her overhead.

Cheng Xiu let out a sigh. She looked behind her.

There was just an empty space.

Cheng Xiu frowned. Was this some kind of a deadend thing for the game? Could she only die here to resurrect outside the dungeon?

Cheng Xiu did not think that was the case. She did not think there would be any parts of the game that would be unplayable. Especially not in low level dungeons. Whatever the purpose of the game was, the first 10 levels of the dungeons need to be player friendly.

Cheng Xiu changed her route after a moment of hesitation.

Instead of walking forwards like she had planned to do before, Cheng Xiu started to walk in the opposite direction.

Her steps were steady, and there figure was straight and purposeful. She did not look like someone who was playing this dungeon for the first time. To outsiders she would look like a person who was very used the space around her.

With an aloof and cold gaze in her Phoenix eyes, Cheng Xiu looked like a true cultivator who was far removed from the ordinary people.

She walked on and on, not really aware of how long she walked for. Cheng Xiu used the Qi sensing ability in her to track things around her, even though she was not able to locate anything that would give her a clue on where she should go to.

Cheng Xiu looked around occasionally, incase her eyes would locate things that her Qi was not able to sense.

It was only when Cheng Xiu felt that her brow sweating that Cheng Xiu stopped.

Her chest heaved as she looked around her again.

How long had she walked for now…why was there no end to the corridor?

Cheng Xiu closed her eyes, tried to regroup her thoughts. It was the only way that she would be able to get things done. If she needed to get out of what seems to be an illusion, or a Ghost wall, as her superstitious compatriot would say, Cheng Xiu needed to change her approach towards this problem.

As her thoughts calmed down, Cheng Xiu used the Ghost Flame to mark on of the walls. This would allow her to know if she was really moving or if it was just an illusion in her mind.

She wrote a 'S' on the wall on the right side.

Cheng Xiu smiled in satisfaction at the black mark and then walked again. As she did, Cheng Xiu started to think about the white room scene, wondering if there was some clue as to how she could escape from this place in there that she had not considered before.

Cheng Xiu frowned. She had to think about how the game was designed at this level. The players were low level players and the chances that they would have noticed the quietness of the door was very unlikely. This meant that, to most players, reaching this space was a forgone conclusion.

The Devs would think that this was the real game play of the game instead of the silent corridor that the three of them were walking on before. After all, how many low-level players would not make noice as they travelled in groups.

As she thought this, Cheng Xiu came to a halt.

Her eyes fell on the left wall. A simple 'S' was carved on it.

Cheng Xiu frowned. She was sure that the mark was the same one that she made with the Ghost Flame. If that was the case, then it would mean that either the walls have changed or her position had changed. Even if the paths were circular, she should have incountered the writing on the right side of the wall again, instead it is on the left side now. Did that mean that after every few steps that she took, the walls would switch positions?

Cheng Xiu shook her head. No. She was getting distracted. At this point, her actions would be similar to any average players in the game. If she needed to get out of the passage, she had to think of something that was not a knee-jerking reaction of a normal player and think like the disgner of the dungeon.

If she was creating a dungeon that would have low-level players in the game, and she needed to make the dungeon special enough without it being too far out of the range of the average person being able to crack it, what would she need to do? Where would she put the clue for those average players?

Somewhere that would be obvious in hindsight but still difficult to guess immediately.

Cheng Xiu stood still for a moment and then walked forwards again, not looking at the wall marking.

She knew where the clue to escape was at.

Cheng Xiu walked fast, her strides even and commanding.

She reached a place and then looked at the blank wall in front of her.

This was the only wall that was blank without a single torch on it.

The reason was simple.. This was where the White Room of the two rats had been.
