Cheng Xiu coughed more blood.
San Zhe gasped again. "Sister Xiu!"
"She wont die," Xiao Hua said to him.
San Zhe glared at him.
Da Hua held onto her brother desperately, not caring about anything else.
She gave it no mind, her eyes locked with the NPC who attacked her. "Life for life. What will happen to you then?"
The man laughed, blood spilling out of his mouth as he did so. "Me? I will be alive if you are able to finish the Queen in this round. If not, I will be giving up my life to sustain that spell on you."
Yaksha's hand glowed red.
Cheng Xiu blinked as panick started to raise in the NPC's eyes. She grabbed hold of Yaksha's wrist.
"What are you doing?" she asked him.
"This is a Level 5, A rank curse. I can remove it."
Cheng Xiu shook her head. "No."
"Are you stupid?"
"Why do you want the Queens to die?" She asked Xiao Hua. "Why would you do this? Why risk your life for it?"
The man snorted in disdain. It agitated his condition, and blood started to flow from his nose as well.
Da Hua was wailing.
Xiao Hua let out a self deprecating laugh.
"Because I want them to die," Xiao Hua said to her. "It was them who put us here."
Cheng Xiu tilted her head curiously.
"I had a fellow help us to run away, but the b*tches actually caught us and brought us to this hell. Do you know what they said? That this was for the greater good. That I should be grateful that they caught us! They put us as the guards of this place! Controlled under their commands!"
Cheng Xiu understood the situation. He resented the Queens so much that he was willing to do this to risk his life. "But why did you do this to me? What would you gain from doing this other than your death if or when I fail?"
The fellow smiled. "It is tradition. The one to follow the light must be the one to hold onto the burden in our heart."
Cheng Xiu realised what he meant. "You mean…that the person who becomes the guard of the secrets would have to do this curse?"
The man smiled.
Cheng Xiu frowned. Why was these storylines so dramatic? Why couldn't it just be mindless NPCs who say static lines? Why did the system and the Devs make such plots?
"They wouldn't do it," Xiao Hua said to her in a laugh, "That was why they all died."
Cheng Xiu frowned. "Meaning?"
"If I do this, my sister would be spared," Xiao Hua said to her, "No matter how many times you fail, my sister will keep living. That is something I am willing to die for."
Da Hua wailed harder.
"You shut up," Xiao Hua scolded her, "What are you crying so hard for? Who died? Am I dead?"
"Bro-brother!" Da Hua said.
Cheng Xiu felt the pain in her heart lighten up enough for her endure. She started to get up to her feet.
Her eyes fell on the glowing red palm of Yaksha who was staring at her.
Cheng Xiu sighed. She took his hand and forced his open palm to close. "I will be fine. This is just another reason to finish this Quest in a timely manner."
She then turned to Xiao Hua. "Are you sure that I can win against the queens?"
"You will fail," Xiao Hua said to her in cold voice.
Cheng Xiu sweatdropped. "Wouldn't that mean you will die?"
Xiao Hua shrugged. "What does that matter to me? Are we all not supposed to return to the Primordial in the end?"
Cheng Xiu blinked. "The Primordial?"
Xiao Hua did not give the human cultivators any more attention. He did what he had wanted to do when he approached Cheng Xiu.
"Let us go," Xiao Hua said to his sister.
Da Hua looked back at the humans and then ran after her brother, fussing over him. She even got a little kick to her shin for her trouble.
The two walked into a wall and disappeared.
"Sister Xiu!" San Zhe called. "Quickly let Lord Yaksha remove that curse! Those NPCs are gone now!"
Cheng Xiu stared at Yaksha.
The man in the plain black mask stared back at her for a moment. "Very well then."
"Huh?" San Zhe looked between them. Were they talking with their eyes again?
Cheng Xiu smiled under the white mask and turned towards the direction that the twins had taken. "Let us go. The torch went that way right?"
"Sister Xiu?"
"They might be NPCs to us," Cheng Xiu said to him, "But they are the living beings of this world. If their life depends on me, can I really stay back and not help them?"
San Zhe thought for a moment. "This could be an opportunity in disguise."
"It is not," Yaksha said to him. "The curse is a curse because it gives you no rewards for the hardwork you put into removing it."
San Zhe blinked. "No rewards either…sister Xiu-"
"I have made my decision," Cheng Xiu said.
"But if you fail, you will be pulled into this part of the dungeon again and again until you succeed!" San Zhe argued, "And since me or Lord Yaksha were not put into the same curse, we might not be able to accompany you."
Cheng Xiu shrugged. "I am not afraid of that. I have been stuck in dangerous dungeons before."
San Zhe blinked at her words. That was right…they were both Qiless. She should be able to get accustomed to being stuck at a level. He forgot about that.
"Sister Xiu…"
Cheng Xiu smiled. "But there is one thing though."
San Zhe looked at her. "What?"
"When I kill those Queens, I will give that brat Xiao a good beating," Cheng Xiu said with a cold smile. "Am I such a person that he will make me his scapegoat? I will show him what it means to cry for your saviour!"
San Zhe shivered at the cold glint in her eyes and backed away.
Cheng Xiu walked off. "Let us go. We don't have much time."
Yaksha followed behind her, his head bowed, hiding his eyes from the view of others.. They held a weird light in them.
