Chapter 213 - Sweet Words (Or Not. Ican't Write A Sweet Chapter)

Cheng Xiu returned to her place and laid on the bed. She knew, logically, that what San Zhe said was right. The character got hurt but that did not mean that the player was hurt too. But…

Her instincts were screaming at her at that time that he was in danger. There was something familiar about it as well though she could not pinpoint to what it was.

There was a flash on her fold mobile.

Cheng Xiu picked it up and blinked.

[Lord Yaksha has sent you a friend request.] There was a message attached to it that read [Recommended by San Zhe.]

Cheng Xiu looked at it for some moments. After some hesitation, she accepted it. There was really no reason to not accept it but Cheng Xiu was still hesitant. He was a top player of the game while she was a newbie of the field. She felt weird that she was someone so powerful. She felt like there was nothing she could contribute to their friendship.

And that was the crux of the matter.

Her friendship with Gu Shu was the point where Cheng Xiu would act as her restraint, her voice of reason. That was the why she could be friends with Gu Shu without feeling out of place about it. She came from a poorer background and she was a Qiless. Cheng Xiu would have felt a bit too much of insecurity if she was not contributing to their relationship.

Her friendship with San Zhe, in her eyes, was a more stable relationship. They were both Qiless people with ambitions to be big. Regardless of everything else, that was enough reason for her. But she did have that insecurity occasionally, which made her become a mother hen towards him.

But her friendship with Yaksha…

She was not sure she could bring anything to their friendship.

But maybe in the future she could.

She knew that friendship was not measured with how valuable friends were to you but she could not help having such thoughts.

Cheng Xiu turned to her stomach and let out a sigh.

Why did she overthink things? It was just a simple friend request and she was already making essays in her head about it to justify herself.

Ding!

Cheng Xiu looked at the Fold again.

Yaksha had sent her a message on the Other World interface.

Cheng Xiu opened the interface and then blinked.

There was a voice message in her inbox in the game. She looked at the game interface curiously. She was so busy playing the VR version that she did not give the Fold much attention but now she found it to be interesting. She would have to explore it more after talking to the Expert. She would be able to learn a lot about the game through its mobile version.

Cheng Xiu hit play. [San Zhe sent me the link to your profile. Thank you for accepting me.]

She stared at the Fold for a moment. The voice that came out was similar to the deep voice that she had heard of his before but…she thought it was more alluring than before. He had a voice that made her eager to see him.

She shook her head out of such thoughts. That was a horrible way to think about her newest friend. She would not be that person.

Cheng Xiu hesitated for a few moments. [No problem. When did he share it?]

[Last Week. I just did not think that it was appropriate to send the request suddenly.]

Cheng Xiu rolled her eyes. She would not know whether he had the link a long time ago. Only he and San Zhe knew about it. It was sudden for her regardless. But she decided against saying that to him. No need to insult the expert. She had to give him that respect.

[How is he?] Yaksha asked her.

Cheng Xiu sighed. She sent him a voice message back. [Fine…it think…at least, he said he was fine.]

The response was almost immediate.

[Then I am sure he will be fine. He doesn't seem like you.]

Cheng Xiu scowled. [And what do you mean by that?]

There was a brief pause.

[Someone who would be reckless as to keep fighting in a Deep Dive despite getting a warning that you are reaching your physical limit.]

Cheng Xiu felt her brow twitch. Damned man!

She sighed. He was an expert of the game and she should give him that respect though. She sent him a simple message. [I see…I am sorry that I gave you that impression, Lord Yaksha.]

There was a pause.

Ding!

Cheng Xiu stared at the message notification for a moment and then played it.

[Little Sela, don't be angry, ba. I was just teasing you to get you out of the funk you seemed to be in.]

Cheng Xiu blushed. There was a coaxing nature to his voice, that seemed almost indulgent. Cheng Xiu sighed.

This was one of the reasons why she did not make friends with extremely attractive men. She could not help developing a certain bias towards them.

[I am not angry.] she sent to him.

[You sounded angry. Don't be angry, ba…]

Cheng Xiu huffed. [Don't say ba.]

[Why not?]

Cheng Xiu's cheeks burned. [Just don't.]

She decided to say something else just in case he had something more to say about it. [Do you really think that Brother San is okay?]

[Yes. He is, I am sure.]

Cheng Xiu pursed her lips. [But I feel this instinctive fear that there is something that is going on with him.]

[Your voice sounds nice. Really beautiful.]

Cheng Xiu blinked. She briefly wondered if he was drunk or if his account was hacked before she guessed the real reason for the sudden complement. [Flattery will not get you anywhere near me. Stop trying to distract me.]

[And here I thought I was being subtle. But really, you worry too much.]

Cheng Xiu nodded. She knew she could overthink things and worry over the silliest of details.

[So, what do you do for a living?] she asked him after it seemed like forever.

[Wouldn't you like to know.]

[I would actually.]

[I am a…Freelance Writer and Editor.]

Cheng Xiu raised her eyebrow. [And here I thought that you were in some science field. You seem the type.]

[Don't stereotype people, comrade.]

Cheng Xiu shook her head. [sorry.]

[It's okay.]

The two started to talk about some personal things. She learnt that Yaksha wrote articles, blogs and theory papers when he had time but he also took care of his family business when his brothers dragged him to it.

That had made her smile. She had thought that Yaksha was the serious type but his words made him sound like a fun person.

She learnt that he had a large family and that it was his dream to be a big name writer. He did not want to get into the family business and that was creating conflicts in the family.

Cheng Xiu was surprised that he would share these things with her. [I am surprised that you would share this with someone you have only met a few times and went to dungeon with once.]

On another part of the universe, a man sat leaning against his white leather chair. He wore a silver square spectacle and a simple white buttoned up shirt and black pants.

Thick dark brows rose as he heard the words of the other side.

"A stranger…" he whispered. How was she a stranger? She was his rival. The one person in this world who knew how his mind worked and openly antagonised him. She was his most trusted friend at one point.

The man chuckled to himself. It really was a sorry thing when a 16 year old boy's most trusted friend is his rival.

And even now, he would trust her enough to say the things he did.

"There you are!" a young voice called.

He blinked and looked up. "Yue."

The girl had deep black hair held in twin ponytails and white streaks along it. She wore a puffy, deep pink frock dress.

"Brother!" the girl called in coquettish voice, "Big Brother won't take me shopping! You take me!"

"No."

The girl pouted. "You have to or else I will tell all your readers that you are writing those kind of stories!"

The man's face stiffened. "Doesn't matter."

The girl glared and then she sent him a sweet smile. "I will tell grandma that you are writing stories."

The man's fingers stiffened. "Shopping is it? Let us go."

The girl let out a loud, crazed laughter. "My brother is the best!"

The man gave her a stiff smile. "My little sister is so capable."

"That I am," the girl said with a smile, her chin jutted out.

The two went out of the door.

When they reached downstairs, it was in time to witness a woman in a black dress shoot a bot in the head.

The two stopped at the steps.

The woman looked up at them, her eyes blood red. "Little Xing and Little Yue. Dinner will be served soon."

"Okay grandma," the girl said with a laughing voice.

She nudged her brother when he kept quiet.

"Fine," he mumbled at last.

As they left the girl scolded him.

The man's eyes were deep set and dark, hiding the hidden viciousness from the girl.
