89 Didn't I Promise You?

When Amber opened her eyes, the space next to her was empty.

She instantly felt worried that he might have left and went to confront Glenn Price.

She believed in him but both of them knew that they were not yet ready to go up against all those peopple.

She stood up and run out, she didn't care about not wearing a slipper. The stairs were at her right upon coming out.

"Amber?"

She stopped midway upon hearing his voice, she looked to the side and saw him preparing the table. She was disoriented as she just looked at him, relief washed over her.

Ashton frowned upon seeing that she was not wearing any slippers at all. It was already close to winter and the weather was quite cold already.

He walked up towards her and carried her.

"Woah, wait a minute, what the hell. Am I a sack?"

Amber who was suddenly carried on his shoulder finally returned to her senses.

"Who was the stupid one, who came running out without wearing any slippers? Even though you were numb of pain. I think you can still feel the weather."

Amber remained silent as he brought her back to the bedroom. He placed her at the bottom of the bed before going to the side to take the slippers he left there.

"I thought you left."

He heard her say as he picked up the slippers. Looking at her back he couldn't help but sigh.

"Didn't I promise you?"

He knelt before her and placed the slippers on her feet himself.

"I... It's just... so many promises have been broken."

She was not looking at him, this was the first time he saw her acting so docile.

"Then why did you make me promise if you won't believe me in the end?"

He was looking up at her.

Seeing his raised brows, she couldn't help but to puff up her cheeks.

She was indeed the one who made him promise but the things they'll have to face scares her as well. Her parents and Carl died after making those promises.

Ashton once again sighed, he never would have thought that he would actually try to coax someone else other than his sister.

What's more, this person is older than his sister.

He just stared at her as she was looking on the side.

'When I met her seven years ago, I would never imagine that we would actually reach this moment.'

He shook his head before speaking, "Look here, I don't know about others but one thing I know. If I promise I will make sure that I fulfill it."

He then stood up, "Come on now, dinner is ready."

After saying this he went ahead downstairs. She followed not long after, she was feeling hungry after that long sleep.

She was actually shocked to see that she had fallen asleep for five hours.

"Ashton, why didn't you wake me up earlier? How am I supposed to sleep tonight?" she complained as she sat down across him.

"Am I obliged to wake you up? I already went out of my way to make you sleep must I also wake you?"

"Waaahhh, your reasonings truly are... *sigh*."

She didn't bother speaking with him as she started eating. She actually didn't taste the food they ate during lunch.

Her mind was in mess after all, so the taste didn't register in her mind.

"Do you plan on telling me what had happened? I didn't see you in person for six years but the first time we meet again, you already have that mask. And you have so many connections I actually don't understand."

After eating a few mouthfuls, Ashton finally asked.

Amber swallowed the food in her mouth and grinned before moving her brows up and down.

"What do you think? I am amazing right?"

"If you tell me, then I might find you amazing."

Amber pouted, "You haven't changed this part at all. Never complimenting me no matter how much amazing I become."

"What part of you should I compliment then? Your narcissism?"

She glared at him before focusing on her food, devouring everything in front of her.

"Where are we by the way?" she finally asked after putting down her spoon and fork.

"My house."

"I know it's your house, what I'm asking is. What part of the city?"

Celstial Country has City A as its main city. It was the center and the biggest city where everything was. Most of the royals also have their villas and mansions around here.

The city is no longer divided to the five royal families, instead the royals were scattered all over the place.

The main residential areas were Moonstone, Stardust and Galaxia.

Moonstone have the midern design, Stardust have the historical while Galxia was a mix of the two.

All houses within this three costs more than hundreds of billions. That only the royals and those second to them could afford.

"Moonstone."

"I'll do the dishes," after nodding she finally volunteered.

Ashton followed her to the kitchen, "I have been wondering all this time, why do you seem to enjoy doing the dishes?"

As she washed the dishes a smile appeared in her lips.

"My brothers and I loved playing house when we would have our vacation in that house near the beach."

She looked at him, he was leaning on the kitchen counter.

"We became fond of doing house hold chores and dishes and laundry was what stuck to me."

Ashton remained silent as she looked back at the dishes she was washing.

"It's a very simple thing that the rich people would barely do but my brothers and I found happiness through it."

After that, only the sound of washing was heard.

"Your things have arrived by the way, I have placed them on the guest room. You can see for yourself if something is missing."

"Thanks... Oh by the way, has your mother called?"

"She did, she said that it was successful and that the little girl is out of danger. I've heard it was a bomb, was that the reason Thomas Barbers remained by Mario Barbers' side?"

She nodded before sighing, "People could really be twisted, to actually leave such a foreign object at a young girl's body."

After wiping her hands she subconsciously touched her thigh.

"And what was it about the folder?" Ashton asked next.

"It was the handing over of everything, I had Mario Barbers sign it. If Jacob Barbers loved his life more than anything else. Then Mario Barbers loved his son more than his own life."

Ashton walked up leading her to the guest room.

Amber have no qualms of staying with him, they were engaged in the first place.

Gideon Wright was also adamant on taking care of her, he would feel much more at ease with her staying with Ashton.

"I have placed the folder on top of your bed."

She went in, the room has one queen sized bed with blue as its beddings. There's a wardrobe, a vanity table and its own bathroom.

It has a simple design, something she prefer rather than those with so many things in it.

As she started fixing her things, Ashton remained leaning on the door frame. She still haven't answered his questions.

A phone rang and he looked at her confusedly, it was a flip phone, that first came out years ago.

Amber didn't move away but just answered the phone in his presence.

"We already have the husband and wife and the Cooper Empire have not called as well."

Luke Edwards decided to inform the pianist, he was wondering if the pianist was also connected somehow to the reason for this.

"Don't worry they won't stand in the way this time, just put them behind bars for the rest of their lives. That is the only punishment I would like to hear, if any lesser, you will surely not see them for long."

"Don't worry every evidence you've given us was more than enough to put them in jail for the rest of their lives. What about Jacob?"

"He'll arrive but not yet."

Luke knew the pianist would do what he said so he stopped asking and their phone call ended.

Amber was about to speak when another call came. This time it was on her green phone, she looked at Ashton helplessly who only raised his brow.

"Ho, you are the one calling now?" her attitude was different from the other phone call.

"Because you haven't called and Mario Barbers was already behind bars," Luis Cooper spoke in a serious tone.

"Don't worry, my precious friend will send it to your office soon. But I must warn you, she is under Wright Empire."

Luis frowned, a major shareholder of their company was friends with someone under Wright Empire. What if something bigger would happen and-

"This one time is an exception, just because I am close with someone else doesn't mean I would exploit others over and over again."

Reading his mind, Amber spoke in a serious manner.

"I know what to do and what not to do."

"I shall believe once I see it with my own eyes," Luis replied.

"Hmmm."

"As for your last recommendation, we have already signed the contract. It is indeed an amazing one."

"Then I suppose both parties shall look forward for this collaboration."

Having nothing more to say, both ended the call.

"Are you not scared of having identity dissociation?"
