301 What Is Protection?

If Harvey didn't get there to be Russel's protector, then Amber would be the one helping her out and if something were to happen to Amber.

Then Ashton wouldn't only blame those people but even he would balme him.

"I am the husband of the villainess after all," was the reply before he hang up.

Harvey furrowed his brows, why do they keep saying that Amber was the villain. Is it because of what she did to him?

When he looked up, it was in time for the two ladies to come out of the restaurant, seeing as the men watching the restaurant were about to make their move, he drove towards the entrance of Natan.

His blue Camaro parked right in front of the two of them, "Get in, I'll send you home."

Russel frowned and looked away intending to walk towards her car. Amber didn't answer and just watched.

"If you want to be followed by dozens of men on your own then don't get in. But are you sure you want that?" Harvey continued speaking, he too was not looking at Russel.

Russel clicked her tongue and looked at Amber who slowly shook her head and Russel understood that this must be Amber's doing.

"Why must you-"

"I cannot stay here for long. After making sure that Natan is already sailing smoothly then I would have to go and continue what I am supposed to do," Amber said.

"I could have-"

"I don't trust guards," was Amber's interruption.

"And you trust him? Oh please Amber, he should be the person you must not trust when it comes to protecting someone," Russel even pointed at Harvey.

Harvey didn't say anything, he knew where Russel was coming from but it seems that Amber didn't.

"I'm sorry Russel, I don't know if you two have some kind of history but I could only use whatever I can to help you out."

Harvey's brows twitched listening to her. Shouldn't he be the one getting mad at her because of what she did, why is it that she was the one being sarcastic right now?

"Just get in the car will you? We really have no time for this," Harvey then said upon seeing that the men are starting to get closer.

Amber noticed it as well since the moment they went out and opened the door of Harvey's car before pushing Russel in. Russel who wanted to protest was looked at sternly by Amber.

"Compared to the bodyguards hired out there, I would rather trust this person in taking care of you. At the same time, since you already know each other. Just try to get along. Your mother is currently not here so this is the only way for us to feel at ease."

Amber glanced at the side where the men were slowly approaching them.

"Go," was all she said as she closed the door and walked back to the restaurant.

She has no desire on taking them as well so she will just call for Ashton.

Yet the moment she called, "I am here."

"That's fast," she said with a smile as she get in.

"Harvey called a while ago as he came here, hearing that men were already in the look out. I knew you would let Russel ride with him so I came to pick you up."

Amber smiled widely then she remembered, "By the way, they have history? Did you know?"

"No, we have spent time a lot but that didn't mean we knew each other's private life. Only a few at the same time a good example of this was your brother Xander. If you didn't find out about it, I also wouldn't have."

Amber nodded as she started thinking, she was curious but Russel's reaction to Harvey a while ago and about him protecting her, made it pretty obvious that it was quite deep.

"Oh well, let time change everything and let them decide on their own what to do from now on," she shrugged.

*****

"This is not the way to my place," Russel noticed the road and looked back at him.

"It is not," was his reply.

"What are you doing right now?" she asked in gritted teeth.

"Can't you be more attentive to your surrounding? Some people are following us, if I just drop you to your place then what would happen after that?"

"My place has high security thank you for asking," was her retort.

"I don't care. Since they are behind us, just follow me for now. I was tasked to protect you for the time being," Harvey didn't want to argue with her anymore.

"No, why would I follow you!!??"

"Please," Harvey took a deep breath, he just came out from fighting with Amber then fighting with his grandfather and brother, now this.

"Please, just for the time being. I know how mad you are to me but please just follow me for now," he continued.

Russel gritted her teeth, as she harrumphed and turned to look outside the window.

Though through the reflection she noticed that he had massaged his temple a few times.

She decided to cloe her eyes and no longer look at him for she could feel that something else was still there buried in her heart.

Harvey silently drove to his place and parked, he tried waking her up but it seems that she had fallen asleep already.

He could only carry her up and let her rest in the guest room, he gave her face one last look before going out.

That was when Russel opened her eyes, she didn't want to argue with him about staying here since she knew that the Cage family and their minions were out there to get back at her, she knew she also really couldn't stay in her place.

Her mother was in a place where they really couldn't touch her right now. She had just after all left for Celestial country for a six month convention so she didn't have to worry.

With a sigh, she decided to just really sleep and think about things tomorrow instead. The problem is just how she will stay with this person without getting at each of their nerves.

In the balcony of his room, Harvey was taking a puff trying to release all the frustration he was feeling for the whole day. He glanced down at his phone and ignored the call that was persistently trying to reach him since a while ago.

It was none other than his father who first showed him how to protect the Empire despite not being the heir. Yet what Harvey could see now was a very different man.

He has changed into the father of the heir. Someone who was filled with pride about his son being chosen among so many contenders.

He chuckled bitterly, something he had been running away for so long was thrown in front of him just like that. He couldn't help but to really despise Amber.

He took another puff before heaving another deep sigh, another thing he had been running away from was Russel herself. The reason he did his best to forget the face of that young lady whom he had promised to protect.

Then he laughed bitterly, "What am I protecting then? The little one back then that I couldn't do anything about. The Empire that no matter what I do the others would make sure to make it fall. What is the purpose of my protection?"

He run his fingers through his hair as agitation started coming up once again. Not even taking a smoke would help ease it.

"I think you need a drink," a voice came from behind him.

He turned around, only a few were being allowed inside by his trusted guards. And for him not to feel his presence until he spoke meant that this person was on another level than him.

"Ash," he spatted out before putting the bud in the ashtray and with a swift move arrived right in front of Ashton ready to hit him with his fist.

But Ashton evaded it just fine, Harvey didn't give up and moved to hit him with his other hand, which was blocked by Ashton before raising his other hand to stop Harvey's knee coming from below.

Both of them moved back creating space between them.

"Let me hit you once Ash," Harvey said in a heavy tone.

"Give me a break I was just shot two weeks ago, I don't think my shoulder have recovered yet from that," was Ashton's reply, holding his left shoulder.

This made Harvey stop from his movement and sighed before sitting down on his bed.

"What is protection Ash?" after a bout of silence he opened his mouth and asked while grabbing unto his hair.

He suddenly felt lost after seeing the look his family was giving him when he acquired the shares.

And when Russel showed him just how much she was angered by him.
